We noted last week that Cardinals rookie offensive lineman Brandon Keith had pleaded guilty to rioting and interfering with officials acts in connection with a March 9 incident in which he was on the receiving end of a Taser.

But if you think it’s surprising that the Cardinals would draft a player who had been arrested less than two months earlier, you’ll find it even more surprising that the Cardinals would post something on their official web site in which that player makes light of the incident.

According to the site, Keith’s teammates have now given him a nickname related to the Taser incident.

“Even [Matt] Leinart was like, ‘You really got tasered? Did it hurt?’” Keith tells the Cardinals’ web site. “They call me ‘Taz.’ They say its short for Tasmanian devil, but I think it’s short for taser. I tell them, ‘Y’all are trying to be funny.’ But it’s a rookie thing, so I am down with it.”

Keith began his college career at Oklahoma, but he ended up transferring to Northern Iowa, and as ESPN.com’s Mike Sando notes, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops basically calls Keith a liar when discussing what happened during Keith’s time with the Sooners.

Still, Keith says he’s OK with everything that’s happened to him: “Like my grandma always told me, things happen for a reason and you will be stronger for it.”
