Offensive lineman Demetrius Bell, a seventh-round pick of the Buffalo Bills, signed a contract with the team on Tuesday.
Bell gained a lot more attention than the typical seventh-rounder at this April’s draft because his father is basketball star Karl Malone. The Mailman was likely not happy about all the attention because it was followed quickly by the revelation that Bell’s mother was just 13 when Malone, 20 at the time, impregnated her. Malone was not a part of his son’s life while Bell was growing up and, according to reports, rebuffed his attempts at creating a relationship several years ago.
Contract terms weren’t disclosed. Bell played left tackle at Northwestern State and started the final 22 games of his collegiate career. He’s the first of three Buffalo seventh-rounders and fourth of 10 overall picks to sign a contract.

13. That’s just disgusting.
I guess age can be added to the whole “rain, snow, sleet or hail” thing.
The Mailman ALWAYS delivers.

Statutory rape of a 13 year old child, but hey it was ok because Malone was a superstar, and Jazz fans should rise to his defense, isn’t that right Pats fans?

Yay! Another reason to love the Mailman… I had almost forgotten about the statutory rape. Somewhere in there is a Utah joke, I’m sure.

So is this kid the most successful of Malone’s 20 kids? I wonder if any of Sean Kemp’s two dozen kids have made it to professional sports.

Why isn’t this national news?? I can’t believe this. Good for this kid. Sounds like he’s overcome a lot to get where he is today.
As for the Mailman, I hope he gets exactly whats coming to him. The least he could have done was hook the kid and his mother up with a decent income. It’s little to pay for your freedom.
So does this mean that there’s an asterisk on all of malone’s records and stockton’s assists? If the Mailman would have been incarcerated, millions of people from the mid 80’s throughout the 90’s wouldn’t have been bored out of their minds by the Utah Jazz.

They should make a comic book about Karl Malone. Dead beat dad during the day… basketball superstar at night. He could wear a mail man’s uniform and drive around in a plow.

You can take the Mailman out of Utah but you can’t take Utah out of the mailman.
Getting a 13 year old pregnant? Even R. Kelly thinks that is wrong.
Disgusting on all accounts.

What I would like to know is why is every one taking pot shots at the Utah Jazz organization? It’s not like they condoned this type of behavior. And guess what? It happened before he was even drafted into the NBA, before he even made it to the Jazz. Back in those days, did NBA, NFL, or any other pro-sports organization make such a big fuss about the backgrounds of their players? I understand the bashing of Karl Malone because of this, but let’s face it. It’s old news. And the Jazz shouldn’t be punished anymore for this than the Los Angeles Lakers, who also signed Malone.
TampaHoss, an asterisk? Please tell me that’s a joke and not an honest show of your intelligence.

In Dec. 2004, when Malone (41 at the time) allegedly told Kobe’s wife (22 at the time) he was “hunting for little Mexican girls” I guess he wasn’t hitting on her after all. He was probably asking if she had any younger sisters.

defenders of certain pro players have a lot of gall trying to project their players’ bad habits onto whole states (whole states they dont like)!
certainly until the mid 90s usg policy underwrote and encouraged widespread activity like karl malone engendered for lots of people (not just pro ballplayers).
here’s saying malone-like activity is a lot more prevalent in big cities and not in “flyover country”.

At first while reading this I’m saying to myself…..’If he’s Karl Malones’ son, why then does he not then have the last name Malone???????’
I guess I’m just old fashioned.
I find it deplorable that in some communities many young people don’t even know who their father is and if they do he’s estranged and off impregnating the next producer of fatherless children. Absolutely deplorable.

The MAILMAN delivered all right.
How come you can rob a bank, cut yourself, and bleed on the floor, and years later be convicted of a crime through DNA testing?
Yet if you get a 13 year old child knocked up (and your 22), checks the childs DNA against his to see if a crime was committed?
You CANNOT get much more evidence of intercoarse then a child.
