Though we don’t like to take issue with anything that our friends at Pewter Report write, we’ve got to clarify their assessment of the contract recently signed by Bucs running back Earnest Graham.
It’s accurate that there was no guaranteed money at the time of signing. However, Graham gets $1 million for reporting to training camp, not for being on the opening-day roster.
Also, because Graham is a vested veteran, his base salary of $1.5 million will be fully guaranteed as of the first Sunday of the regular season.

Can anyone say “Insert Foot In Mouth” or “Egg On Your Face”?
That’s what you guys get for jumping the gun and buying into what one webpage says. PewterReport is the authority on the Bucs, but they don’t always get everything right and you should VERIFY your information before you post it.

So he gets a million for reporting to TC, not for making the roster.
That should protect him for TC. He still has to produce on the playing field to get his salary.

MIBucs1982, I’m assuming that you have never made a mistake in your life, on behalf that you are taking such great initiative to bust Florio’s balls.
Maybe next time you should VERIFY that Florio has VERIFIED before you read his website.
Smartass.

Frankly from everything you link to the guys at Pewter Report write like Bucs fans who cheerlead everything that team does. Maybe you need to find some new sources down there.

What I find hilarious:
There exists a foursome of over-indulgent WASPS at a country club discussing Pro Athletes salaries and whether they are over/under paid. Yet if any one of them said “Hey, Keith, how much did you make last year?” they would be unrefutably insulted. Why is it rude to discuss our peers’ salarie but we find it so chic’ to discuss athletes’yearly salaries?

Not to disagree too much, but if Graham was scheduled to make $600k this year, before the extension, and he makes 2.5M, isn’t the difference 1.9M? Graham was already under contract so the $600k was already in his pocket. Just sayin’.

Tampa Hoss,
If I’m hanging out with my friends, and they ask me what I make, I don’t really care. (not that I’m sitting at country club) But you are right in a sense, I wouldn’t share my salary with everyone on this site.
But athletes are like celebrities. They are in the public eye. If they don’t want attention, scrutiny, or praise, they shouldn’t be athletes.
We as fans, want to know how much they make because it also affects a little thing called the salary cap. And that in turn affect the quality of players we can have on our team.

Okay, then under this story’s logic, for now on we should call every vested vet’s salary in the first year “guaranteed”? Oh, sorry….practically guaranteed. The guys at Pewter Report weren’t as far off as they’re made to look like. Curious if anyone’s now tryin to make the agent look a little better for some reason.

You are completely right…salaries are probably the most discussed topic in the offseason therefore making the knowledge of players’ salaries very crutial to the following season.
However,
I’ve beared witness to the flossing of Keenan McCardell, Warren Sapp, John Lynch, Derrick Brooks, and Shelton Quarles.
The Media is so quick to oust the player who is “holding out for more money” yet teams can add and drop players without any regard for their financial futures. In the next CBA there needs to be a rookie cap and GUARANTEED CONTRACTS…It is ridiculous that the most profitable professional sports league in this country can not guarantee their players, their salary. These players are modern-day galdiators that lease their physical health for financial gains. There is enough money generated in the NFL to take care of veterans and the settlers of this league. Shaquille O’Neal paid for George Mikan’s funeral. Are you telling me that there is more loyalty and respect for one’s own sport in the NBA over the NFL???
The NFL needs to step up and adjust to the popular cultural scene in sports….
