It’s supposed to be a sssslow week in the NFL, with front offices shut down and otherwise on vacation.
Not in Philly, where the Eagles have worked out a deal with third-round draft pick Bryan Smith, a defensive end from McNeese State.
Eight of the Eagles’ ten draft picks are now under contract. The two unsigned players are the two second-round picks — defensive tackle Trevor Laws and receiver DeSean Jackson.

I agree. Our defense is gonna be nasty this year. I had a co-worker tell me yesterday that Eskin reported Sunday night that Colston is unhappy with his contract in New Orleans and we may be dangling Lito again…. Anyone heard anything else regarding this rumor???

Still have to get the 2nd rounders signed, but since Lurie/Banner/Reid have been in place, the Eagles usually get their rookies signed and into camp on time. Of course, they almost never contribute as rookies, but they are in camp. So they have that going for them, which is nice.

We do need to get our second round rookies into camp, but in this case i see Laws and Jackson contributing, especially Jackson in the return game…I didn’t hear anything about Colston, but that would be a great addition for the receiving core as we need a big reciever…

I can’t see the Saints trading Colston. Who else do they have at WR? I also see the Lito trades as dead. Yeah we have Assante and Sheldon but then who? Lito getting a shot elsewhere died on draft day. He just needs to suck it up and realize getting more money mean he has to play and actually stay healthy this year.
As for our rookies the no playing thing is extremely over exageratted. Patterson, Gaither, Reggie Brown, even Corey Simon all got on the field with significant playing time their rookie years. This year I expect Laws to be a part of the DT rotation and Jackson to at least make an impact in the return game. I also expect them to give him a few plays on offense because he is so explosive. Bubble screens and deep balls for example to take advantage of his speed and elusiveness.

Am I the only Eagles fan on here that would refuse the Shepard for Colston trade??? Personally, I would rather have the shutdown secondary. With these “fastballs” on the D-line (Smith included) and a secondary of Samuel, Sheppard and Brown, expect to see alot of turnovers for this D in 08.

I think you may be the only Eagles fan to refuse that trade. I agree about the whole shutdown secondary thing but lets face it, this will be the only year we have those 3 CBs. Lito is gone after this year if in fact he plays here this year. I would love Colston. 6′4 over 2200+ rec yards and 19 TDs in his first two years. But I have to agree that I can’t see N.O. trading him….unless his agent and their front office are THAT far apart on contract talks. They did draft Robert Meachem in the first round last year to go along with Devery Henderson and David Patten….and I guess even Terrence Copper. Let’s pray N.O. ends up needing another CB before the season starts…

Hey Marchesani,
I like the shut-down Secondary too. We could use a stand-out Number 1 Wide Out, but I don’t know if Colston is so dynamic that we trade him for the strongest 1-2-3 Corner rotation in football.
With Westbrook drawing double teams for DeSean Jackson and Lorenzo Booker, the Eagles can enhance the Pass Attack just fine and keep the defensive edge…
