In an effort to find out who’s the dirtiest player in the NFL, ESPN.com surveyed head coaches and asked them to name just one player who’s the dirtiest of them all.
Of the 17 coaches who supplied an answer, 11 of them chose Patriots safety Rodney Harrison.
The coaches answered anonymously and didn’t explain their answers, but this is obviously no surprise, as Harrison has a reputation for taking cheap shots.
However, ESPN.com’s Mike Sando reports that there’s one NFL player who has more personal foul penalties than Harrison over the last seven seasons: Cardinals safety Adrian Wilson, with 17. Wilson didn’t get a single vote for dirtiest player, and neither did Saints defensive end Will Smith, who is tied with Harrison for the second-most personal fouls (14) in the NFL since 2001.
Cowboys safety Roy Williams got two votes for league’s dirtiest player, and Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce, Steelers receiver Hines Ward, Titans center Kevin Mawae and Bears center Olin Kreutz each got one.

Wasn’t that Harrison chasing Boss, the Giants rookie TE, in the Superbowl looking every bit his advanced age? It must be the Patriots homers who are writing in and saying they still want him on the team. For what? can the guy video tape with the best of them or something?

I totally agree, ctfwest. A lot of people forget when Harrison took that cheap shot on Trent Green in the pre-season of 1999 (who at the time was newly acquired from the Redskins by the Rams), it put him on IR and ended his season. So if it weren’t for Rodney Harrison’s cheap shot, Kurt Warner probably never would have had his “15 minutes of fame”.

How many more legs does Roy Williams have to break to get more votes for this category?

He’s not even the dirtiest player on the Patriots. Vrabel, Mankins and Seymour are all dirtier than Harrison.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that. This is football, not golf. ”
Hey Wow, I agree with you for once.

Another badge of honor for the Patriots. Anyone with a shred of decency would denounce Harrison, but Pats fans will prove once again that it doesn’t matter to them what you do as long as you win. Cheat? No problem. Dirty? No problem. Way to go Pats fans, make your children proud.
So monger, is it a badge of honor for Titans fans to stand behind Albert ‘The Scalper’ Haynesworth? That’s just one example, but I guess on the Pats have dirty players. Oh by the way, Chargers fans never had a problem with it when he was with them so are you going to bash on them, or are you a closet Chargers fan as you never seem to mention your team…
You’ve got a real obsession with the Pats as on every post with anything related to them you start to spew your hatred. Which is fine, due to the fact you’re not a fan of the team you should hate the one that’s been on top, but come up with something better.

On the whole no team is only made up of dirty players. And each of the teams in the NFL has one or two. I would go one step further and posit that each team needs at least one or two because it is a tough game and dirty guys get the best of it sometimes. Roy Williams would win my vote but Harrison definitely likes to get in the late hit whenever possible. Haynesworth had one tremendous lapse in judgment but from the admittedly few games I’ve seen him play for the Titans nothing else dirty really jumps out. While what fans think is subjective I take the players themselves more seriously when it comes to allegations of cheap or dirty play. I believe the most called out by teams around the league would be Harrison, Williams, Wilfork, and Joey Porter. Players always seem to be calling those four out.
