Though the precise discussions between “retired” quarterback Brett Favre and his agent, Bus Cook, likely are known only to Favre and Cook, some league insiders are assuming that Cook is pushing Favre to play in 2008.
The assumption is based on a perception that Cook has been yapping openly (but not yet publicly) about Favre’s supposed desire to play in 2008. Because Favre seems, at least superficially, to be content with the notion of retirement, the assumption then is that Cook is trying to get Favre to change his mind and unretire.
Cook said in the immediate wake of Favre’s decision to retire that Cook thinks Favre wanted to play in 2008, but that Favre believed the Packers didn’t want him to return. There also was a report from Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times of Cook quietly shopping Favre via trade, and we later confirmed that report.
If Favre would decide to play, his options would be to play for the Packers or no one. As to the Packers, the options would to welcome him back (and pay him an eight-figure base salary), trade him, or cut him loose.
We’re not saying that Favre is going to play. But we are saying that Cook is saying that Favre wants to play. Whether that’s true or not – and, more importantly, whether Favre acts on it — remains to be seen.

I really think it’s time we move on. Let Aaron Rodgers have his fair shot already.

Bus Cook wants Favre to play. He’s not getting any cash if he doesn’t and Brett doesn’t seem to be the type of guy to do post-retirement work such as TV or endorsements.
Bus Cook’s feeling the financial pinch.

Don’t blame Favre or Florio, it is just the nature of the beast.
The toughest part of running a popular site with low manpower is coming up with content frequently enough to keep the ad revenues coming in.
Thank god for gimmes like endless Favre speculation and the general stupidity and immorality of professional entertainers, like athletes- if this was a hard news venue, pft would really be up the creek today. UPI can’t exactly run “What if Mighty Mouse and Superman had a war?” stories.

Okay, I’m no Packers fan nor am I a Favre fan for that matter, but ANYONE who says Favre sucks suffers from a severe case of cranial rectalitis.

If he really does want to come back, how about a trade to Miami for Jason Taylor? Makes a lot of sense for both teams — I’m guessing Favre would be an upgrade over future hall of famer John Beck. It certainly appears as if Ted Thompson has moved on, thus I can pretty much guarantee he would play for someone other than the Packers if he does come back.

Cook needs to find a new football player to Live/leech off of. The Green Bay Packers have a quarterback who will do just fine,; thank you. Maybe Favre could buy Cook a lawn reactor and they could cut grass together.
Former Packer greats have always been welcomed when they come back to Green Bay. At this rate, Favre won’t be.
Bus, Brett, get over it!!!!!!!!! Sheesh!!!!!!!!!

Is this freakin’ drama ever going to end with him? It’s sickening and really a joke at this point. He could end all speculation by saying “I’m retired and not coming back.” He seems to enjoy this crap.

4ofor60 you’re cute, the packers suck and go bears…the bears offseason moves have been astounding and now that cedric benson is healthy and happy, ulacher is healthy and happy you guys finally have a quaterback and a young defense you are all set to win the division….oh wait….
Forum cop you do understand Favre IS staying away. this entire article was about his AGENT. Favre isn’t saying anything, according to the article it’s his agent that’s continually keeping his name out there. That can’t be that hard to comprehend?

Of course this is being pushed by Cook, and it’s in his best interest not only for Bret to return, but for him to play anywhere but Green Bay. As it stands now, if Favre came back tomorrow for the Packers, Cook wouldn’t get a penny. He only gets paid if Bret signs a new contract…which would of course happen if he got traded to another team. It’s in Cooks best interest to try to generate a market for Bret to return and redo his deal.

I’ve been saying all along that Favre doesn’t like either McCarthy or Thompson because they have strangled all the fun out of the game for Brett. It would seem that my theory could be the bare naked truth after all.
13-3 is no fun at all; setting every passing record, no fun at all; hosting the NFC championship game after going 4-14 and 8-8 is no fun at all.
favre sure did look miserable last season…

why florio why?please tell me there s a reason you persist in writing these non stories every week about lord farve.have the woeds I have changed my mind come out of his mouth since the day he bawled his out and said I am retiring? no but because his agent or somebosy close to him said he might it is a story. for the last 5 years we have had to endure the endless will he or won’t he come back for another year stories and noe that he said he is done you start them all over again.how about just saying as of now he is retired and we will let you know if he unretire like when he steps onto the field. maybe congress should get involved abd declare a moritorium on all favre stories until he does in fact come back. for the love of god mike stop the madness!

Hey I hate both teams, Green Bay and Chicago but for the Bears-Troll who said GB & Favre suck, you need your head examined.
The Chicago Bears are the LA Clippers of Football. You’re a pathetic team that lacks any kind of talent or heart. Even the Kasas City Chiefs laugh at you guys.
I remember when you guys were good, back when I first got Tecmo Bowl.

Brett has already tarnished his image by threatening to retire for the last 4 seasons and now that he has finally retired, he’s letting this talk go on and on.
He’s kind of like Lance Armstrong. Once a household name and a hero….
Now he’s just annoying.

40for60….hit the showers loser. You still smell of vinegar. You clearly don’t like the Packers, and that’s fine. You say Favre sucks…his worst season is better than any season your beloved Bears have ever had from a QB so go rinse off the vinegar (pgetlease, don’t make me say it) and get on with your life….ba ha ha…Kyle Orton and Rex Gross, man…that’s rich. Hell even Blair Kiel and Anthony Dilweg were better than those losers.

As a Packer fan, I wish Bus Cook would STFU and go back to chasing ambulances. I can’t wait till the first game of the season when his jersey is retired. Although, count me among the number who believe that there is no love lost between BF and TT. Between he and McCarthy, not so much, I think. For the record, even though TT has assembled a good young team, I’m not sold on him. He runs the Packers salary cap like he’s paying players and FA’s like it’s coming out of his own personal checking account.
