Though the precise discussions between “retired” quarterback Brett Favre and his agent, Bus Cook, likely are known only to Favre and Cook, some league insiders are assuming that Cook is pushing Favre to play in 2008.
The assumption is based on a perception that Cook has been yapping openly (but not yet publicly) about Favre’s supposed desire to play in 2008. Because Favre seems, at least superficially, to be content with the notion of retirement, the assumption then is that Cook is trying to get Favre to change his mind and unretire.
Cook said in the immediate wake of Favre’s decision to retire that Cook thinks Favre wanted to play in 2008, but that Favre believed the Packers didn’t want him to return. There also was a report from Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times of Cook quietly shopping Favre via trade, and we later confirmed that report.
If Favre would decide to play, his options would be to play for the Packers or no one. As to the Packers, the options would to welcome him back (and pay him an eight-figure base salary), trade him, or cut him loose.
We’re not saying that Favre is going to play. But we are saying that Cook is saying that Favre wants to play. Whether that’s true or not – and, more importantly, whether Favre acts on it — remains to be seen.

“If Favre would decide to play, his options would be to play for the Packers or no one.”
Thank God for that. Rodgers, here’s to the giant, ever-present shadow that you’ll play the rest of your career in. Somebody shove a stake in Count Farvula’s heart already.

If this is true, that is why I hate agents. If he really wants to retire then let him. Just let the guy alone. Favre has been somewhat outspoken in the past few years and I am sure if he wanted to play he would tell them and show up and force the Packer’s hand in someway or another.
I think reporting things like this just plays into Bus Cook’s hands and, in his hopes, his back pocket.

Maybe Lord Farve is taking a wait and see approach. Waiting to see how badly the Packers may or may not suffer in his “loss”. If they’re terrible maybe he comes back to guide them to the playoffs or something. If they’re good, he’ll stay home.

i am begging you. PLEASE stop with these stupid posts. All the Favre coverage has made me sick. And I still have to put up with it on Monday Night Football when the season begins. I don’t want to hear his name again until:
1) Favre himself says “I’m coming back”
2) Five years from now at Canton
3) while watching Aaron Rodgers struggle and the Packer fans start chanting Favre.
Please PFT, no more Favre

I response to the above comments from a Bares fan:
The whole toiled hole of Chicago was happy when Favre retired. Yeah, they may have gotten the best of him the past couple of years, but no the first 15. But then I guess I would be bitter too if I had 30 different QBs in the past 5 years and still have to watch Grossman.
Maybe that is why Favre retired… it just wasn’t fun flushing the toilets in Wisconsin so that Illinois could get some fresh water.

Hey 40four60, You are so right about the Packers sucking…They were the youngest team in the NFL last season (even with old Favre) with a terrible record of 13-3 and won the NFC north, only to lose the NFC Championship game to the eventual Superbowl Champs…they really suck! and Favre sucks??? I’m glad you said it because it further proves how little you seem to know about football and what it takes to be good or great.
Go Packers.

Bus Cook was a personal injury attorney before favre decided to make him his agent coming out of Southern Miss. So for all intents and purposes, Cook owes his entire career as sports agent to BF. How does he thank the man? By stirring up as much bullshit as possible in an attempt to get his cut of another year or two of the guy’s salary. How shocking. Have you seen this guy’s stable? McNair’s retired, and Brett’s retired; now he has Randy Moss who’s playing for well short of what he’s worth… Michael Turner who’s playing for way MORE than he’s worth…Cutler, Adalius Thomas, and a bunch of veritable no-names. I can’t imagine why he’d want to milk Favre for all he’s worth…

I think Cook wants to get paid. And for the “Favre Sucks” posters, get a life and move out of Mommy’s basement. The guy is a HOF and one of the best to ever play the game…same with Jerry Rice, Montana, etc. They are icons of the league.
Favre is cemented as a celebrity and legend in this game. The best thing for him financially, long-term, is to stay retired.
I think he still had a year or two left, but it’s better to walk away a year too early than to limp away a year too late.

I don’t know why people are attacking Favre here. The media (this site included) is guilty of continuing to throw logs on the fire. Every move that guy makes (or doesn’t make, in some cases…golf anyone?) is criticized.
Just because Favre isn’t jumping into some other job immediately doesn’t mean he is coming back…it just means he’s probably enjoying himself. I don’t know how involved the retirement papers are, but I would imagine that for some stupid documents for which there is no time-line for completion, you’d put it off as long as you could because…why not?

40for60 - Bears are awful. Packers went from 4-12 to 8-8 to 13-3 under Thompson. “Cheapie” Ted helped assemble a team that got to the NFC championship game last year, has as good of a transition as you could ask for at the QB position, and hired one of the best young coaches in the league. Where are the Bears at? Hmmm, you have three guys who could play QB (What’s the phrase, when you have 3 qbs competing, you have no QBs?), your first round RB pick from a couple of years ago is cut, Urlacher isn’t happy, your no. 1 WR threat is Devon Hester. Lot to look forward to there.
About Cook - is this really surprising? Two of his biggest meal tickets (Favre, McNair) retired, leaving him about 400-500k in lesser income this year than last. To my knowledge, he doesn’t have a ton of clients, so I’m sure he’s feeling the burn right now. Doesn’t mean Favre actually wants to come back and it doesn’t mean the Packers will take him back or trade him for anything less than a couple of 1st rounders.

Ha Ha 40for60! The comment section never seem to be complete without some retarded post from you. The same Favre that sucks is the same one that beat your team what, 14 times in a row? You’ve had 19 starting QB’s since he took over and guess what, none of them will even catch a wiff of the HOF unless it’s as a visitor let alone first ballot HOF’er. Don’t even go there with Rex bringing the Bears to the Super Bowl. He was the lowest rated Super Bowl QB of all time and it was the defense overcompensating for his crappy play that brought him there. Of course you have to actually have a real QB to win a Super Bowl which is a big reason why they got smoked.
That same cheapy Ted has built the deepest roster they’ve had in years. How could you possibly think that if Favre came back they would suck when they have the same roster that took them to 1 quarter away from the Super Bowl? You have the IQ of a peanut. A very small one I might add.
Why don’t we take a look at the Bears. You have 3 third string QB’s vying for a starting position and they didn’t even entertain signing another veteran. Let their overrated B. Berrian go via free agency, but he was the best receiver on the team. I don’t even need to bring up Cedrick Benson or Tommie Harris. Yeah, Ted’s a moron. All he does is scoop up starting running backs with 6th draft pick trades. Tell me you wouldn’t kill to have Ryan Grant on your team? They have the deepest and most talented receiving core in the league, a good defense and a well respected coach within the locker room. Hell, you’d probably kill to have the Packers #4 receiver as your #1 starter at the position. Then there is Urlacher and his messed up back and griping about a contract.
Enjoy the next season while you watch the Bears plummet to the bottom of the division behind even the lowly Lions. I dare you to even try to give me one reason that the Bears should feel good about going into this season or how they will even be remotely as good as the Packers team who Ted “drove into the ground”.

There’s maybe 10 quarterbacks in the world that could play QB at the level Favre was playing at. Most of them are between 20-30 years old. As far as I’m concerned, having Favre quarterback again IS not such a horrible thing.

1. Favre is NOT begging to come back, he’s retired! His agent is yapping about BF playing, so please drop the Brett Favre Hate.
2. Just like a stoopid Bears fan to yap about Favre “still sucking” and the Packers “still sucking”… Favre’s record agains the Bears was 22-10… and the Bears have started 21 DIFFERENT QB’s while Favre has been under center for the Packers.
3. The Packers have had ONE losing season (7-9 or worse) since 1992, with a 161-95 record. The Bears have had ELEVEN losing seasons, and a 116-140 record since 1992. Who Sucks?
