"I don’t have to work in the NFL offices to know that Goodell admitted to destroying evidence and conducted a slipshod “investigation” designed to turn up nothing."

Where did he "admit" this? Please cite a quote in some publication where Goodell said such things. Your posts are utter irrational nonsense. You're a bitter Dolphins fan in denial about that fact that your team too has broken NFL rules. Get over it.

welker was a good player on the wrong team/system in miami. he's obviously not as good as his stats last year, but he preforms his role as well as anyone

and why is spygate being discussed here? is it relevent at all?

I don't have to work in the NFL offices to know that Goodell admitted to destroying evidence and conducted a slipshod "investigation" designed to turn up nothing. The purpose of Goodells inquiry was to obfuscate and cover up wherever he could. Strictly damage control. Guys get suspended for 4 games for taking a diet supplement, Belichek cheats his way to three super bowls and gets scolded. Nope, nothing going on there. ..haha ..

"And Goodell didn’t destroy evidence and have a pretend investigation. ..how could I be so foolish "

No, nothing irrational in this conspiracy theory.

Tell me, "batfreight", what high level office position do you hold in the NFL that would give you inside access to how Goodell conducts his business? Because unless you actually have an answer to my question, you're just talking out an orifice other than your mouth.

No, it’s irrational because your conspiracy theories and assumptions lack reasoning and a factual basis - it has nothing to do with anyone being a supposed “apologist ... Of course, you're right, Belicheat would never try to circumvent the rules with other methods of cheating, he's proven to be an honorable man, he'll be clean as a whistle from here on in. And Goodell didn't destroy evidence and have a pretend investigation. ..how could I be so foolish ..

"You didn’t say anything about the future. "

One would assume that anyone of at least average intelligence would understand that discussing current players situation when they will be in retirement is an obvious reference to the future. Sorry you missed that.

"Yes, well aware of it. Doesn’t change my argument any. "

Right, because your point, if it is indeed a point, is that Welker will retire with more championship rings than Samuel. That's what you said, right? Here's your question and statement again:

"When Welker and Samuel’s careers are over, who do you think is going to have more Super Bowl rings? Here’s a hint: not the guy in Eagles green."

You didn't say anything about the future. Your "point" has no basis in anything that Welker said.

"@csports42192 - If you honestly think Welkers only had one good season, you just haven’t been watching this guy. I hated when the Patriots went down to Miami every year because this guy simply did it all."

Explain his one career receiving TD prior to joining the Pats?

I'll take the $120 mil and two rings, thanks.

"The Eagles gave the whole league the blueprint to stop Brady and Moss."

Yeeeah. Brady threw for almost 400 yards with 0 INTs, and while Moss had an off-day by his standards, 337 of those passing yards went to other guys including Whitey Welker, who had a career day catching 13 for 149 yards against thin air coverage. So I guess the "blueprint" that the Eagles provided consisted of "sit McGagg on the bench for the entire game, and on D send everybody to cover Moss and forget about everyone else". Brilliant.

There have never been any PSL's associated with seats in Texas Stadium. Perhaps you're mistaken.

Hadley, want to know why people don't like Pats fans? Aside from jumping on the wagon.

"Apparently even the Patriots FUTURE titles are tainted too."

The Patriots just choked away a SB to a wild card team and you come here claiming future titles as if it's a foregone conclusion that the Pats are going to win year after year.

Wes Welker can think he'll win some trophies with new England, but as of yet he hasn't won anything and him talking as if he did makes him out
to be pompous idiot. But maybe with fans like you, that's pretty fitting.

"…Perhaps you could enlighten me as to the point of this sentence then…"

That sentence refers to other teams, including your Dolphins, who have broken NFL rules - not other teams that may or may not have also been taping signals. Try reading for comprehension.

"In the mind of a Cheatriot apologist, of course it is irrational ..no surprise there. "

No, it's irrational because your conspiracy theories and assumptions lack reasoning and a factual basis - it has nothing to do with anyone being a supposed "apologist."

I assume that’s a position you hold only in regards to the Patriots and not all the other teams that have broken NFL rules - that would be typical. ...Perhaps you could enlighten me as to the point of this sentence then...

"As long as Belicheat is the coach, everything they do will be tainted. You have to be ridiculously naive to think that he will stop cheating just because he got caught. It’s not as if he was punished at all, and he can rely on Goodell to cover up the worst of it."

Congratulations on so easily proving my point. Irrational.

The irrational mentality of Patriots-haters once again on exhibit. Apparently even the Patriots FUTURE titles are tainted too. I assume that’s a position you hold only in regards to the Patriots and not all the other teams that have broken NFL rules - that would be typical.

Hilarious. Taping the first quarter of a Jets game, and never seeing that video, obviously helped them win 16 regular season games. The idiocy never ceases to amaze me : )

@csports42192 - If you honestly think Welkers only had one good season, you just haven't been watching this guy. I hated when the Patriots went down to Miami every year because this guy simply did it all. I think at one point he was kicking field goals. Besides, i think he was just making the point that the Eagles simply aren't that good. And the Patriots obviously are. Both are point which nobody can really dispute.

icase81,

Tell me, what game were they caught "cheating" in? Oh yeah, the first game, against the Jets. Sorry, you're right...

...they went 15.5-0 in the regular season, and 2-1 in the playoffs since being caught.

"As for Samuel, its irrelevant if he chose money of championships since he already has TWO rings. He’s been to the top of the mountain, and if he wants to play for money to set himself and his family up for the rest of their lives… why shouldn’t he?"

So you think that the Patriots would have offered him minimum wage? He would be "set for life" regardless of where he signed. Would you rather be worth $120 million with two Super Bowl rings or $100 million with four or five? I know what answer I'd pick and it's certainly different from Samuel's.

"What Welker meant to say was that Samuel chose money over TAINTED championships… "

blackglass3, so you're saying you expect every great player to make every great play at the right time. Tell me the last time you saw Dan Marino even win a superbowl. Every player is allowed some mistakes and I highly doubt Wes Welker will win 2 superbowls. The defense is getting ready to look after all of their grandkids and Matt Light is the most over rated player in the league. Osi Umenyiora Looked the same against him as he did against Winston Justice, the blindside isn't as great as people claim it to be. Asante Samuel is no experiment, he is one of the best corners in the league.

Without a secondary, you can't win a superbowl. The Eagles are much more likely to win a superbowl than N.E. But, the most important article is about Joe Delaney. Amidst all the garbage that's overplayed about the bad things players do and the greed athletes have, it is refreshing to see that there are athletes like Joe Delaney. That's a hero. I wish I could be confident enough to know that if I saw three kids drowning, other people were around and I didn't know how to swim, I would jump in and save at least one, knowing I would most likely die. Only by the Grace of God would I be able to. Thank you for your witness Joe!! And, thanks for this article PFT. I look forward to more articles like this!

"Actually, I think the point is that Wes Welker should keep his mouth shut with a bunch of ringless fingers."

Actually, the number of rings currently on Welker's fingers is completely irrelevant. Whether or not he's proved right is dependent on how many rings he wins (and Samuel would have won) going forward.

Yes Welker should have kept his mouth shut but NE is a shrewder judge of talent than most other teams and he is also talented.

I bet he doesnt take plays off either, unlike some other Patriot.

Without Welker the Pats dont move the chains as much.

It's still a team game.

I sure would like for Asante Samuel to have a chance to stuff it up Wes Welker's nose. They don't play each other in the regular season, so I guess we have to hope for an Iggles/Patsies Super Bowl rematch.

But hear this, Patsy fans: I do remember that it was Jim Johnson's Defensive Scheme against the Patriots down the stretch that set the Giants up for their Upset Victory.

The Eagles gave the whole league the blueprint to stop Brady and Moss. Let's see how it works out this coming season...

Um, where were you this past season? The Pats' first season without video taping resulted in a 16-0 regular season record, and a 2-1 playoff record.

"The point is a matter of which team is more likely to win Super Bowls."

Actually, I think the point is that Wes Welker should keep his mouth shut with a bunch of ringless fingers. I think I'll wait to crown the Patriots as Super Bowl champions next year until they, ya know, actually win it. As I recall, people were pretty sure they had last year's SB in the bag.

That, um, didn't happen.

If you look in the SI archives - Rick Reilly wrote a great article about Joe Delaney - it was called "No Ordinary Joe" - what a selfless act. Everyone should read it.

The Eagles/Samuel experiment will last about two years. If he was really as great as his contract says, he would have held on to that interception in SB 42.

welkers probably right, but it was an a-hole thing to say

and be warned eagles fans: asante is not nearly as good as he thinks he is. he'll gamble and get his interceptions, but he gives up far too many plays to be worth that kind of money.

The point is a matter of which team is more likely to win Super Bowls. I do not think it's an unreasonable argument to say that the Patriots have better odds than the Eagles. It's also not an unreasonable argument to say that the Eagles offer to Samuel was more than what the Patriots ever would have paid.

So, Welker is right, Samuel took the money over Super Bowl wins.

My point is, whoever plays QB, or comes in at WR isn't going to be Tom Brady or Randy Moss. Its going to almost definitely be a drop off in talent. ALMOST... we don't know yet, but chances are it will be.

With that said, the Pats are almost a lock for the playoffs because of their division for the next year or two. But Buffalo is on the rise, and Miami can't get any worse. The jets will either be good or they won't. I think this year also, will show what, if any, the Pats video taping did for them. I am not going to get into an argument about it one way or another, the argument is long over. Fact is that they taped, and denied it helped them... which seems silly. Lets see how their first full season while not doing it fares.

I think it's pretty safe to say Welker will have at least two. And the fact that Samuel already has two is beside the point - Welker was obviously talking about the future when talking about Samuel's decision to sign with the Eagles.

Also, Cassel won't be the quarterback if Brady gets injured. I expect Cassel not to make the team this season and end up somewhere else.

Hadley:

But Samuel already has 2 rings. I'm doubting Welker is going to win 2. The Patsies might get one in the next 2 or 3 years, but statistically speaking, someone important is going to get hurt. Brady, or Moss or someone. Its not a guarantee, look at Brett Favre. But its really just one awkward sack or tackle away from being out for the year. If its Matt Cassell, how far do you think he'll take you?

When Welker and Samuel's careers are over, who do you think is going to have more Super Bowl rings?

Here's a hint: not the guy in Eagles green.

One of the MANY reasons that POS Jerry Jones will be one of the primary causes of the NFL's ruin. Greedy Bastard

Exactly, Wes Welker you have 1 good season in your career and are a part of the team that may have choked the biggest in sports history. I personally used to like you before you got a mouth and how can you tell a guy who has won two superbowls he chose money over championships. You will never be the player Asante Samuel is and think next time you speak.
