Spurned by the NFL, rookie receiver Adarius Bowman headed north of the border. And, in his first regular-season game with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Bowman, um, blowed up.
Six catches, 112 yards, one touchdown.
Bowman’s efforts propelled the Roughriders to a 34-13 win on Saturday night against the Edmonton Eskimos.
“I’m loving this — we’re in it together and this is the first of many,” Bowman said after the game.
With the Roughriders leading by only seven points, Bowman caught a 73-yard touchdown pass.
The former Oklahoma State product fell off NFL draft boards, and then drew no interest via undrafted free agency.

Must be tough to beat DB’s with the talent level of my big toe…
Actually, my big toe is VERY talented.

I’m sure the defensive backs up there are much more talented than your big toe, Tim. Way to try to raise your own confidence by diminishing someone else’s accomplishments.

Yeah, I guess Jeff Garcia couldn’t cut it in the NFL, because he played against so many substandard Canadian defenses. Just because you’re in the CFL doesn’t mean you’re not good. What about Canadian college grads? Whens the last time a player was drafted out of Canada into the NFL?

Tim, you are not very bright are you? Is the CFL as talented as the NFL? no, but it is just below it and it was still quite the game to have for his first professional game ever.

“The former Oklahoma State product fell off NFL draft boards, and then drew no interest via undrafted free agency.”
A marijuana incident has been used as the cause of his NFL demise, but a 4.75 forty at the Combine is likely the culprit.

If he continues this, someone will give him a chance. If Kurt Warner could got a chance and became an MVP, you can make it from the CFL.

Shamrock beat me to it (slow with character issues) but i’ll go on anyways….. people on the buffalobills.com boards were in an uproar momentarily when buff grabbed steve johnson outta UK instead of him and then POed when the bills didnt grab him as a UDFA, but to be honest he needs a couple years of “seasoning” when he can only run as fast as most TE’s in the nfl do. He’ll sure get alot more experience & challenges playing in the CFL then he would in the AFL, AFL2, UIFL, CIFL (those being american minor leagues) etc… AND since people with questionable self-control usually blame big cities or campus-life for their own mistakes then, well, canada is perfect, unless you live in toronto (5th largest N.A. metropolis) a hectic/abundant/dangerous nightlife is pretty hard to find cause their aren’t many (any?) big urban areas to “find” trouble in.

Wow, everyone takes everything so literally.
My big toe is very talented, yes, but I do understand that the CFL is just a notch (or two) below the NFL in terms of talent.
I really hope I didn’t offend any talented big toe afficianado’s out there.
Relax people…if we can’t make jokes at the expense of the CFL, what good is being a fan of the superior league?

Also TIM have you ever heard of Warren Moon, Doug Flutie or Kurt Warner (i know its all qb’s but…) they pass against those same supposedly talentless cb’s you talk about (& the wr’s aint That much better than the db’s) and i’m pretty sure every knowledgeable NFL alive would say that each of those three had @least mildly successful nfl careers.{[end sarcasm]}
Theres nothing wrong with w/quality of the CFL, have you acutally watched their games, pretty exciting football if i do say so myself & its not just a ton of open-ended deep-bombs, it well-organized, good quality football. If they defensive backs in that league were soooo terrible they wouldn’t have to have they extra game-field width to get open, which’d lead me to believe that it may be harder for wr’s to get open up their, if under nfl conditions, than some of the scores would indicate. And the cfl is probably the 3rd highest quality league in the known universe behind only the NFL & SEC, lol, but seriously, the SEC is great football too & i dont really like any of those teams but they are nearly on par with the AFL2 @worst.

Not to pick on the CFL, but its more than a notch below the NFL lets be realistic. I undersand a few great players got their start there, but the vast majority wouldn’t have a chance to make an NFL roster. Still a great game from Bowmann though and hopefully he gets himself a shot

The CFL is a different game than NFL. A lot more passing and the field is bigger. Also, they have 3 tries to get a 1st down compared to 4. You have a space between the line of scrimmage which makes it easy to get inches (QB draw about 98% of the time)…. punting in the end zone (1 point…..)that’s only to name a few.
You can’t compare the two even though there are some similarities. I personally like the NFL better, but the CFL is pretty good also. I watched the above noted game and there were big hits. It would have been better if my team wouldn’t have lost though!

East Bay Ray: I give a rat’s ass about the CFL. It’s good football, and I don’t need a PSL to go watch a game.
It pisses me off when guys like that spout off about a game that they likely know nothing about. A game that your average fan can still afford tickets to go see, and a game that affords young (and old) players below NFL caliber a place to play and make a living.

Bowman is from Chattanooga, which is where I live … he had high hopes coming out of HS when he first went to UNC then transferred to OSU … personally I was rooting for him prior to the combine then his slooooooooow 4.75 hurt him pretty bad, not to mention not doing too much to impress at the Senior Bowl either … then he got busted down here for mary jane … I read this little article about his CFL debut and immediately felt good for him … he is a pretty good kid really according to some who know his family here … and does have some ability … it’s always nice to have Chattanoogans in pro sports … the Bullocks bros in DET & NO are from here as well as Terdell Sands and Tony Brown … hometown kids done good for themselves … I’m happy for all of them …

I mean, I get why he wasn’t drafted and all, but he has tons of football talent.

The Roughriders would run roughshod over the Dolphins.
I bet it would be a close game anyway, especially if it was played with CFL rules.
Ricky Williams didn’t exactly tear it up in Toronto.
