there is zero chance of this being effective at Arrowhead Stadium. anyone who has been there would agree.

Chiefs fans join the Sea of Red to make noise and help out the team (and they have needed LOTS of help over the past year). If my section at Arrowhead is confronted by security for STANDING, there is a better chance of us throwing the security guard out than us sitting down.

and i dont want to say what would happen if we found out the culprit who sent the text to security.

Of course being a Pats fan I haven't had the chance to get into a game for years.

You look at the drips in the 30-30 yard line section half way up in the luxury seats with their hands under their asses, road team facing 3rd and 8 and the wine and cheese crowd is sitting their like their reading their papers, pipe in mouth, smoking jacket on, brandy in one hand, etc.

These are the fans complaining about standing. If a couple of fat asses are up for the whole game that's one thing, but I can't see a couple of fat asses standing for a whole game.

Get loud, get rowdy, it's football...just keep your hands to yourself, and no Florio not like that.

I didn't read the article but I seriously doubt the policy prohibits standing. I've been to a lot of games in the past and sometimes certain sections of the stadium stand a little too much (the entire game). The issue is with continuous standing. Believe it or not, there are a lot of season ticket holders that have been season ticket holds for 20+ years. They are pretty old, and they are the ones complaining about having to stand for the entire game.

I think the Chiefs are just trying to appease the old folks that are calling in and complaining that they can't go to games anymore because their hips hurt. What they want is for people to sit down when there isn't important stuff going on on the field. And stand up only when things get exciting.

"If you want to sit during a football game buy the sunday ticket and watch it at home!"

How about if you want to stand during a football game, you do it at home or in the stadium bathroom? Or how about this: If you're 5'6" or shorter, you can stand the entire game if you want. I'm telling you guys, keep it up and cheapskates like Mike Brown and Ralph Wilson will sell the seating right out from under you and you won't have a choice.

Side note: Once again Jerry Jones shows himself to be a master innovator. He's been planning for years to sell "standing only" tickets in the new stadium.

"If you go to a football game, you shouldn’t expect it to be as forgiving an environment as your living room."

So as a guest, shouldn't you follow the rules of the house and sit your ass down? You can stand in your home, right?

It's all about being respectful to others, in any situation, even if they're opposing team fans. People, this is a game! I think Icon has really hit the nail on the head, you don't like their rules- don't spend your money in their stadium. Simple. There will always be unfortunate incidents, like FiveFiveNine experienced, but as long as you keep a cool head, as it sounds like he did, and act like a civilized person, things should work out better for everyone, including stadium management. Perhaps, it wouldn't be so bad for the security to have a few experiences with some obnoxious 'sitters' so they can realize that not all instances of 'standing' are obnoxious and belligerent.

i suppose if they wanted everyone to stand the whole time, they wouldn't fill the f'n stadium with seats. i don't know....

and for the record, i'm both a 'sitter' and 'stander', and i like to yell a whole lot, and talk to, and make friends with people around me. And i like to drink, too. I also always try to make it a point to make friends with the opponents fans, or at least be civil, if that's all they're capable of handling.

See, my highschool football team used to lose- a lot, so i learned about, and experienced first hand, all different types of 'winners' during those four years. I learned to appreciate the humble ones. so i just try to make like a Packer Fan and set an example with my actions.

see y'all at the game!

"...it can be a pain in the arse when the guys in front of you decide to stand up, if for example the road team is facing third down and seven in the fourth quarter of a tie game."

That is exactly the time to stand up and make noise to distract the opponent to enhance your own team's, you know, home field advantage.

I was at the Raiders-Lions game last year in Oakland and a few older people behind me kept telling me and my friends to sit down, eventually calling over some sheriffs to talk to us. We weren't even standing the whole time, just after the Raiders made big plays (not often) or when we wanted to make noise when the Lions had third or fourth down. It was ridiculous.

Stadium 'rules' are the ONLY thing that matters. Whether you prefer sitting or standing, all people had better do what the rules require. Keep the selfishness at home if you will not abide.

I prefer sitting and so prefer watching games at home because of those selfish slobs who will not abide. It does not make you a fan or more or less of one whether you prefer sitting or standing. Again, the only thing that matters are the rules (just like the players have to abide by said and can't create their own just for their benefit.)

I get so tired of these selfish b******s who think of no one but themselves, so when I do go to games I always do what I can to ensure
the rules are being followed. I take it on myself to speak up and if that isn't sufficient I get the stadium authorities involved. Those who won't abide don't like this, but, they soon are abiding.

Again, rules are preminent, individual preference is not. Now sit down & shut up, or sit down and yell, but don't block my view you pinheads.

As some have touched on before, this is a matter of 'selfishness'. As it applies to personal opinion it is immaterial whether you prefer to sit down or stand up. What 'does' matter is what the stadium rules are.

Personally, I prefer sitting and if there is a stadium policy against standing to whatever extent, then everyone better abide...there is no gray area. If you don't like it stay home or buy your own team and/or stadium and stand for all eternity as such 'your' choice. I've been a fan since the 1960s and it is no reflection on ones fanhood - whether they sit all game or stand all game. I do enjoy watching games moreso while at home because you don't have to deal with the assorted selfish types, the drunks, etc. When I people who disregard the rules in lieu of what 'they' want,

Pats: Stadium - Fantastic. Parking - horrible. Not to mention expensive and far away. Pats and FAIR in a sentence together? That's a first.

Some one said that Gillette has a no standing room policy but I disagree. I've only been to 11 games, but we were able to stand when it was appropriate for the game. Not only that, but the Patriots sell standing room only tickets for people who do want to stand the whole time. Not only that, but Gillette has a huuuuge concourse with a great view of the field that people stand and watch the game from all the time.

The Pats are strict but I think they're fair. They have a fantastic stadium.

Hey it's the KC... lol

We all know why they are doing this. It's not b/c their fans are standing. They have nothing to cheer about, other than maybe a close game once in a blue-moon.

It's so their fans can text in about the OTHER TEAM's FANS standing as they make a BIG PLAY on Offense & Defense!!! I guess they hope that by late in the 4th the other team will not have any fans left in the stadium due to the million big plays that their team has already made...I mean who does not stand and cheer as their team makes yet another big play, even if it is vs. the Lady Chiefs!!!

This isn't a rule for true football fans...I stand every game. I have too much nervous energy to sit when I watch my team. Whether I'm home, at a sports bar or at the game...I'm standing. Let them try to kick me out.

Standing, sitting, yelling, screaming, clapping, whatever. The whole point is to be RESPECTFUL of the people around you. I personally wouldn't consider blocking someones view for three hours to be respectful. I cheer the whole game and get louder on D but, usually save my standing and going crazy for third downs. Gotta have something in the tank for the fourth quarter.

If YOUR team has the ball - you're supposed to be QUIET leading up to the snap. I'm always surprised how many of these 'diehards' ignore the QB flapping his arms to tell YOU to shut the hell up so his teammates can hear the play.

I'm with the Niner fan above too. Nothing worse than some loudmouthed clown sharing his commentary for the whole section. Yeah, I get it, you don't like Kordell. Now shut the f*%k up!! There's a GAME going on. I didn't pay to listen to YOU.

It's official - The Patriots hate YOU too.

Mike -

Let me help you with this one. With the higher cost of PSL's comes a higher quality of jerk. In Baltimore, my family and I sit behind fans whose chief interest is standing and cell phoning each other throughout the game regardless of what's happening on the field. I agree, when something exciting is happening, stand up, cheer, wave your arms, lift your beer cup high. When it's not, sit down and let the real fans enjoy the game. I wish my stadium had a policy like Arrowhead.

ROCK ON Nittany Titans! WTF is homefield ADVANTAGE if u cant rattle a lineman w/deafening amounts of noise & 70000 jumping/screaming (almost certifiably) luantic fans, into causing a false start thus enabling your team to have an easier time getting a stop & punt. If that isnt one of the main selling points of not having neutral field games then i dont know what is.

Those crying about fans standing and cheering need to go to a college rivalry game (Texas A&M/UT) and see what a beautiful experience it is. No one sits down and it is loud! It is an event. If you want to see the intricacies of the game, you need to watch at home. If you want to enjoy the experience of cheering for your team with like-minded strangers, nothing beats the in person event. Quit imposing your will and changing what has always been.

How ironic, considering how much pride the Chiefs have in the "college environment" at Arrowhead. What's next, we have to be quiet while the defense is on the field? We can't wear red to games anymore? We can't chant "we're gonna beat the hell out of u u u u u " after a touchdown? We can't sing "and the home of the CHIEEEFS" at the end of the national anthem? I may as well stay home and watch them on TV.

If you go to a football game, you shouldn't expect it to be as forgiving an environment as your living room.

If you aren't going to stand, stay on the couch.

There is just too much money involved in all our American pro sports, for it not to be corrupt, I really wouldn't be surprised if one day I read in the paper that championships are traded on highest levels of power, & I'll have to admit I'm becoming, not so entertained by all this crap anymore- & I'm not even "old school".

Let's think about this now...

Fan is short for fanatic, remember. Sports fanatics have stood, cheered, booed, yawned, wore bags on their heads, used face paints, and used all kinds of other extreme ways to express their senitiments since sports became popular in this country a hundred or so years back.

I know some people feel that football fan behavior is kind of over the top. Those people need to realize that the best seat for them is the one in front of their big screen in the family room a home.

Being an Eagles fan since '79, I've been to many games at the Vet and several games at the Linc. I'm telling you, YOU HAVE TO STAND UP IN SELF DEFENSE AT AN EAGLES GAME!!!!! (Or be buried in a Sea of Passionate Fans!) But I'm not complaining because the atmosphere is electric and our players and coaches tell us they appreciate it, too.

"No Standing" will never fly in Philly. And I feel sorry for any town where that kind of policy is even thinkable. If the passionate fans get squeezed out of the stadiums in too many NFL cities, it's a sure sign the game is headed in the wrong direction...

If you wanna enforce any kind of standing rule let it be like a lot of nhl arena's... if the play is going on then you just got yourself a seat in the aisle for the next 20 seconds. Wait till the play is over, your friends can get the nachos & beer during the huddle.

Past that, you wanna tell me to sit down you better have an 8 yr old with you or else you can go take a flying **** and sit on the wall by the toilets. When the buffalo D has the opponents O on 3rd & long you better believe sun or snow there will be a few people in every section screaming @everybody to get their lazy @$$e$ outta there seats, stand up & scream n cheer until you get a headache. Ive seen other bills fans popping throat lozenges & advil purely so they can stand up & cheer (or jeer) louder and longer. I bring a few tylenol myself usually b/c i know i'm gonna scream till my head starts pounding, then do it some more, louder than before if possible.

Drunk, sober, high, happy, mad, stoked, pissed off, i dont give a ****, people oughta be up on there feet going nuts @least a few times every quarter unless the game is absolute **** with perfect refereeing.

The issue is not people who stand during the game...the issue is people who stand when people behind them can't stand or see the game. If the guy behind you is 80 years old and can't stand for 3 hours, then sit your ass down and watch the game from the seat. You can cheer just as loud on your ass as you can on your feet.

This isn't a "class" issue...lots of people who aren't in the "wine and cheese" group can't stand for long periods of time, or just don't feel like standing up when they are watching a football game.

I'm a Patriot's season ticket holder and was once told after a big 3rd down to sit down by one of the guys wearing the yellow jackets. I did out of fear my season tickets would be revoked as the Patriots like to do these days for any little reason. If you don't like to get loud or to stand for big plays don't go to the game. Sit at home and watch...

I've also been sent what I've taken as threatening emails because I've BOUGHT, never sold Patriots tickets off Stub Hub because I needed more tickets for one game and you can't find them anywhere. It feels like teams are looking for reasons to revoke tickets it's weird.

The "no standing" rule is also enforced at Gillette. I forget which, but either the Globe or the Herald did a story on how all the code of conduct for ticket holders was so strictly enforced that there was no home field advantage because the crowd doesn't cheer. (I know, I know; cue the Spygate jokes about home field advantage.) Then there's the issue of not designing the place with enough women's bathrooms, thus women had to use men's bathrooms, thus the Krafts revoked those people's season tickets for using the wrong restroom. Seriously.

I've had to deal with people standing, people being too loud and drunks but none compare to the IDIOT sitting next to me at Candlestick section 14 Row Z Seat 22. I'd rather have people stand in front of me than that guy can whine and bitch all game about anything and everything. Everybody at that game knew how bad Alex Smith was playing, we don't need to hear you go on about it like a crackheads John Madden

AMEN Patherfan ... in reading some of these comments those of you posted talking about us that stand ... y'all need to stay the eff at home then!!!!!! ... if I'm yelling my azz off and the other 68,000 along with me cause a false start on 3rd & short, we did our effin job IMO ... if that makes me an effin "meathead" then I guess I am ... and y'know what??? ... I'm effin proud of it then ... I want to be there making noise with the other 68,000 ... I want the enjoyment I get out of being there ... that is why I paid my $750 for season tix ... and its the best $750 I could ever spend on entertainment ... I'll be dammed if someone is gonna make me sit down and be quiet ... AND I DON'T DRINK WHILE IN THE STADIUM EITHER ... I don't and won't pay that ridiculous price they charge ... football games are ermotional and are not meant to be black tie affairs ... if you want to sit on your hands then sell your PSL's to someone who actually wants to be there in the middle of it all and will actually appreciate being there ... I almost bought club level PSL's this offseason, but noticed how those seats are always empty b/c those rich SOB's are up in there yucking it up with other rich SOB's not ;paying a damn bit of attention to the effin game ... who would I high five when KVB gets in there and sacks the QB?!?!?!?!?! ... so I decided to stay in the upper deck where I am now with all the common folk who "appreciate" their PSL's ... peace ...

The Ravens have enforced a similar policy when people complain about standing. With the big money being shelled out for PSL's and the Jared Lorenzen sized price for tickets Joe Sixpack is out and guys named Todd,Kyle, Gavin, Evan,Cole and Biff are in.

Sweet Christ on a stick, how uninformed was the Chiefs fan who sent that bit of "news" in? "No standing" has been a policy for YEARS. They announce it, and many other rules, at the beginning of home games.

The only time it gets enforced is when some drunk is the only person standing and is screaming and hollering like a moron. It doesn't actually mean fans can't stand and cheer during the game.

I mean, use some common sense. Have you SEEN games played in Arrowhead Stadium? Does it look like anyone's been told to sit?

Its not to measure how obnoxious one is. I don't know if anyones ever heard about this little thing called home field advantage? Maybe because it's entertainment and you are meant to go have fun, let loose, cheer for your team? I don't know but sports are supposed to be fun events not suit and tie, read the Sunday paper events in my opinion.

If you wanna sit, relax, in peace and quiet; I think sitting at home on the couch hanging out with the family is better place than a football stadium to go to. Or buy "box seats" so you don't have to deal with the rest of us hooligans.

Lots on here haven't been to NFL games lately. You are told to:
"Sit down",
"Shut Up",
"You're Yelling Too Much",
"You can't do that", etc.
It's crazy, and if you complain, you could get arrested and have your future of going to games, taken away from you.

We can complain about passionate fans at football games now???

EXCELLENT!!!

I'm going to go complain to my local symphony that all the audiences silent, unwavering staring is really creeping me out. It's extremely unnerving and distracts from MY enjoyment of the music so it MUST stop!!! 10 second blink increments must be enforced at all times. This i command!!!

Sure, i could just not looking at the audience just as easily as a football fan could stand up if they can't see... but i'd rather be able to tell others what to do.

Why is this being made into a blue collar vs. white collar thing (or whatever other code words people like to use for economic status)? I've seen members of both groups that know how to be a fan and members of both groups that don't.

If you want to stand up while watching the game, do it in front of your TV. People don't pay to go to games to look at your back. How loudly you can cheer and how long you can stand is not the measure of how much of a fan you are...it's the measure of how much of a meathead you are.

Great, now every stadium will become more like Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. This is benefiting the wine-and-cheese folks and hurting the real fans.

Actually tuckrule, an overwhelming majority of nfl crowds want to stand for parts of the game, 3rd downs, goal line stands, kickoffs, stuff like that.

Its the people who don't want to stand, and want everyone to abide by their wishes alone, who don't give a shit about anyone else.

I agree on the excessive standing thing. It's a bit narcissistic and forces everyone else to stand. Some older folks can't stand so much. Standing before a big 3rd or 4th down play or a big series is fine. But doing it for some guy who paints his fat belly in the hopes of getting some time on the jumbotron is ridiculous.

Not everyone wants to stand all game. If you do, do it in front of you TV. The stadium wasn't built for your sole convenience. The comments here are a perfect snapshot of what's wrong with America today...no one gives a shit about anyone else.

And, the true measure of a fan isn't how long you can stand or how loudly you can cheer. That's simply the measure of how much of an obnoxiuos meathead you are.
