Some areas may a zero tolerance for sports stars who think they're above the law and the local residents appreciate that the police keep order; some areas have police forces that either sweep things under the rug or the individual police officers don't want to be vilified for being the ones who arrest someone (especially if the arrest impacts the team's ability to win). So a player for the Bengals may get a DUI with a .09 on a Cincinnati freeway, but the same guy, if he played for the Cowboys, may just be asked for his autograph and wished good luck in next week's game if he is pulled over for speeding and running a red light with a .16.
