oh boy where to start?
@vikefanatic
"the Vikings have no problem selling out games, there hasn’t been a blackout here since the 90’s"-the only reason for that is because local t.v. stations by up the last remaining 2000 tickets or so, so that they can gain revenue by airing the game. it happened like 5 times lastyear.

@ drexes
according to what you found on wiki-pedia, the reason this is not a violation is the "(B) the buyer also purchase another different product (”tying”) but only when these acts substantially lessen competition." just like vikefanatic said its something people just deal with. now i would LOVE to go to even a preseason game in GB. MN fans dont love their teams as much so alot of them dont care, some do but not alot. there are still plenty of people who will bite the bullet and take the crappy preseason game to get the big money ticket. the vikes do it so that they can sell more tickets to the preseason game to make more money- its that simple...but whatever

starman, the Vikings have no problem selling out games, there hasn't been a blackout here since the 90's. They, like most other NFL teams, have a problem selling preseason games. NFL owners want the money that comes from the preseason games and they found a way to do it.

I don't see how this violates anti-trust laws, but I'm no lawyer either. Is it a pain? Does it suck? Yeah it does, I'm a Viking fan, I live in town, I want nothing to do with a preseason game, but if I want to go to regular season games its something I have to deal with (this policy applies to all season tickets and half season/multiple game packages). If Packers fans really want to make the drive over they just have to deal with it too, no one is forcing them to buy the tickets or come to the preseason game, a simple solution as to what to do with the preseason tickets try donating them to Mpls. area charity. BTW, I'm pretty sure the Vikings aren't the only NFL team that has this sort of policy in place.

@ drexes - re: Vikings requiring single ticket purchases of Green Bay Packers game tickets to purchase Seattle pre-season single game ticket

First of all - don't rely on Wikipedia.

Secondly - how is it a violation? The act prohibits freezing out competitors in the same field of business. This has nothing to do with the single game ticket sales to the public. Based on your argument, it would be a violation of the act to require season ticket holders to purchase pre-season tickets as part of the package.

The Vikings have done this for a couple of years in an attempt to keep as much green and gold out of the Metrodome as possible. It does not prevent season ticket holders from selling their tickets to cheeseheads.

drexes: The argument would be that the products aren't substantially different, and that it's not meant to be anticompetitive. That is, the Packers are not bundling their pre-season tickets with regular season tickets to keep you from buying another team's pre-season tickets.

Before signing his new contract, Giants G Chris Snee said any new deal would have nothing to do with being coach Tom Coughlin’s son-in-law: “Whatever I get, I’ve earned.”

Yeah, OK. BTW Chris, do those blisters hurt? You know, the ones from patting yourself on the back so much?

"If you want a ticket to the Vikings’ home game against the Packers, you also have to buy a ticket to their preseason game against the Seahawks."

Okay so if you take into accaount that alot of people from Green Bay go to the Vikings games each year because of the short distance (there were comments on the new article that mentioned as much), would this move by the Vikings not constitute a violation of the Clayton Antitrust Act of 1914?

Taken from wikipedia:
The Clayton Act made both substantive and procedural modifications to federal antitrust law. Substantively, the act seeks to capture anticompetitive practices in their incipiency by prohibiting particular types of conduct, not deemed in the best interest of a competitive market. Notably, the act prohibits: sales on the condition that (A) the buyer or lessee not deal with the competitors of the seller or lessor ("exclusive dealings") or (B) the buyer also purchase another different product ("tying") but only when these acts substantially lessen competition (Act Section 3, codified at 15 U.S.C. § 14);

By bundling the tickets they are keeping people in Green Bay from potentially purchasing a pre-season ticket for a game in Green Bay or Chicago, which are markets those fans have been known to drive to. I'm no lawyer but this might be worth looking in to...
