In addition to the fact that, on the weekend that ended with Raiders receiver Javon Walker unconscious in a Las Vegas street, he was engaged in the same champagne-related activity that arguably was the first domino to fall in the chain of events that resulted in the death of Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams, there’s another piece of Williams-related irony in one of the more bizarre offseason tales we’ve ever heard.
Walker could have avoided the entire situation in Vegas, if he had merely opted to attend the first ever fundraising gala and parade hosted by the Darrent Williams Foundation. Williams’ mother had asked Walker to be there, and Walker had said he was busy.
The disclosure comes in an item from Bill Williamson of ESPN.com that, frankly, we scanned earlier this afternoon and regarded as more rehashing of the same old themes that already have been reported ad nauseum. But our pals at SportsByBrooks.com have since pointed out to us this intriguing twist from Williamson’s story, which prompted us to give it a closer read.
The Williamson article also delves into the unusual manner in which Walker has processed his grief regarding the Williams death. Walker is clearly still struggling with the ordeal mentally, which in a roundabout way has put him in a position to have to deal with some fairly serious physical injuries.

Hopefully people won’t wrongfully condemn him for not being at the fundraiser. Until you’ve had a good friend die in your arms, which I have, you will never understand the desire to avoid opening the wounds that such an event would cause.
This November marks the 21st anniversary of my incident and is also the 20th anniversary of his annual fundraiser…I have not been to one.
I’m certainly not saying that he should have been spraying champagne on others either though…

Javon must have been really wasted to be beat up by that guy who was arrested. Have you seen his picture? It’s like Mike Vanderjagt beating the crap out of John Henderson. Doesn’t make any sense to me. That or Javon needs to take some lessons from Mayweather Jr. instead of having a champagne squirting party.

Darrent Williams’ mom said it best:
“He hasn’t dealt with it, he just tried to move on, and believe me, you can’t,” she said. “I think he is just trying to be strong for everyone. Some men are like that. But he hasn’t allowed himself to grieve.”
Until he deals with it then it will always come back to haunt him - one way or another. The signs and synchronicities with Javon and that tragedy are very apparent lately.

With most people, you try to give them the benefit of the doubt but Javon Walker just might be a bigger a$$hole than TO with half his talent.
Nobody wants to see their fellow human being get beat to a pulp and discarded on the side of the road like yesterday’s trash but if you were forced to pick one person in the NFL to have it happen to and TO was busy that day, you couldn’t do much worse in picking Javon.

I suppose that argument might make some sense if Walker hadn’t kept the bloody shirt from Williams’ death to remind him that every day is a gift.

I’m not trying to be TOO Harsh here but the guy (walker) nearly repeated the SAME Incident that caused the whole Williams Incident. Instead of taking the Opportunity to Remember your Best Friend, you go back to the very place he died and virtually recreate the Event. Was Walker having feelings of being “Cheated”… “Cheated” of the Death that Williams experienced? Did he (Walker) feel that he should have been the one to “take the bullet”? I don’t know but you can’t Honor someone that means that much to you by running away from the very thing that He Represented and that’s GIVING OF HIMSELF. He DEFINITELY Needs Help.

He is a great player with a lot of talent when he is not hurt, but he has a pour all about me playing attitude that most team don’t want to deal with.
What happened with D-Will seems to really be messing with him, hopfully he can get some help to get past it. You would think after starting a fight doing the spraying the crowd stuff that started the issues that lead to D-Will’s death, would have stopped him from doing it again in Vegas.

I certainly am in no position to judge Walker and how he has had to deal with the tragic death of Darrent Williams. I do have a hard time understanding why a man is still wearing a blood soaked shirt 12 hours after his friend has died in his arms and how he still continues to involve himself in similar behaviour.
I find the strength of Darrent’s mother very moving, maybe with time Javon too can come to terms with this tragedy.
