Note 2: It clearly went over your head Tdubb, but my "technicality" point, was actually in agreement of what you were saying. I was saying, that the "technicality" was that I omitted the word "illegal", but that was the case I was trying to get at. The whole point, of my original response, was meant to imply, gaining an illegal advantage, but my other point, was the fine line between cheating and gaining an advantage. You clearly hate the Pats, and think I'm a Pats fan, which is why I became a target for you, thats fine. But using your example, of gaining an "illegal" advantage as cheating, every offensive lineman in football, "cheats" (gains an illegal advantage, as "cited" by the rule book) on every play. My overall point, was that we can all pick and choose when we want to call someone out for cheating, and when we want to say "everyone is doing it", and so on. An OL can say everyone is doing it too, but it is still "cheating", if you want to get that ridiculously specific

I guess the Jags, Jag fans, Jag writers will say anything to try and fill up those empty seats at Alltel Stadium.

Also, may I remind “ASk Vic” that during the Broncos games against the Jags last year the Cutler’s helmet went static as the coaches tried to send plays to him, but all he got was static. But the Jags had no problems Their QB could hear everything crystal clear in his helmet. So what does “ASk Vic” think about this…I’m sure he has the perfect excuse….Bill Belichick was in Denver that day.

Are you suggesting that the Bronco's allowed a Jaguar representative enough access to knock down Cutler's signal in their own house? Wow, no wonder you guys believe Belichick.

Tdubb, you just dont get it, do you? I never said, "icing the kicker". Clearly someone who is trying to flaunt their mental capacity can read, correct?

I didnt use the example of icing the kicker, I used the example of icing the "K" ball. That is the ball that a kicker uses, to kick field goals. Read it again

Using your logic, as long as it isnt written in the rule book, specifically stating it is illegal, you are saying, that it is legal, and not cheating.

To go back to the scrambling of headsets for example. I dont know that there is a rule that states, scrambling the opponents frequencies, is against the rules. If that isnt stated, you are saying it is legal, and not cheating?????? Does that make any sense?

There isnt a rule saying a "Nancy Kerrigan style attack" against your QB is against the rules, so if my team breaks your teams leg, before the game, you are saying my team shouldnt be punished, because it didnt violate a specific rule

Tubb of shit, good one. No one's hiding behind anything. "Illegal" is not a technicality; it's the operative word in the definition. Trying to gain a competitve advantage is what sports are all about, so long as it is done within the confine of the rules. When you act in such a way as to obatin an "illegal" competitve advantage, we call that cheating. See the difference? It's the word "illegal."

Because I don't have the time to go Citing rules for an illeterate imbicile, I'll focus on the obvious. You used the example of icing a kicker before a kick, something nearly every coach in the NFL has done. Coaches don't try to hide this action because it is not illegal and there is no worry of any league reprecussions. Does it give them a competitive advantage? Debatable, but many think it does so they do it. Competitive advantage that is not illegal = not cheating. Follow me? That's why I made the earlier point about your definition.

You're an angy lil fella aren't you? See, the problem with people like you is that you bring down the collective intelligence of an otherwise enjoyable Site (see "Cite" above). You have the analytical capacity of...well... a delinquent. Nice job with the name, very a propos...

Tubb of shit, you are going to hide behind the technicality that I didnt use the word illegal. I didnt realize that I had to be THAT specific. I am not writing a rule book, simply making a point.

On that note, I didnt write about anything, that is "allowed by the rule book". Site for me, the rule, in writing, that states a team is allowed to water down the field. Find me the rule that states, a team is allowed to send ball boys into the locker room, searching for game plans. None of those, are in the rule book. Just because there isnt a rule stating you cant, doesnt mean that you can. Your logic follows that of Patriots fan, trying to defend the Pats. The rule book doesn not say, you cant film an opponent, it says if you film, it has to be in a specific location, there can be no access to the coaches, cant use it during a game, etc., etc.

if del rio had put pressure on brady, they would have been a lot softer for the chargers...

From Pacman: "anything that is purposely done, to gain an advantage on your opponent, is technically cheating." Might want to throw the word "illegal" in your definition, bro. That's what cheating is, an illegal advantage. Half of your examples are all permitted in the rules and thus, not cheating. Another genius Pats fan.

And I love all the Jax hating from bitter, blue collar nothings. Bundle up from the cold, boys, we Jags will chilling on our gorgeous white sandy beaches. Maybe that's why our fans don't revel in the intense animosity on this board. We prefer the witty, good natured jabs at our opponents from our boy Vic.

The really funny thing is you know the Jags have no hope of ever beting the Pats or they wouldn't be doing this. It's all they have. They are the comic relief of the NFL.

Nikos - so because someone covers a team you don't care about his opinion is invalid? Why not read through a week or two of Vic's columns and even ask a question or two. He really allows the column to be what the people want, he just writes his own opinion on the matters at hand.

3efin - I don't really think Vic cares what other people think. He made an off the cuff remark about the Patriots cheating and you call him out as a nobody looking to make a name for himself. I find that hard to believe seeing as how he is an older guy now so what's the point.

I am a Jags fan so I am biased; however, Vic's column is for people who like football, it isn't just for Jaguars fans.

It's called "Matt Walsh syndrome."

A nobody makes a name for himself, by counting on idiots like you to put his name on the internet, and in the newspapers.

All a wannabe has to do is make up some bullcrap with the word "Spygate" in it, and guys like you will swarm to it like flies to poop.

People in Jax don't care about this guy or that team down there as evidenced by the difficulty in selling out games. When Vic gets a job covering a real NFL team, then I'll care about what he has to say.

I think Florio hates the Jaguar organization about as much as he loves the Patriots. I cant think of a positive thing Florio has ever said about the Jags.

People need to lighten up.

I think he is dead-on. Would it surprise anyone if it came to light that the Pats, along with disrupting opposing teams Coordinator Qb transmissions which numerous teams have experienced at crucial times during games, also intercepted those communications? You know they did!

I believe this is what Goodell was covering up when he destroyed the evidence. Taping was the least of his worries.

If I wrote for the Jags, I would come up with anything I could to trash the Pats, I mean, after all, the Pats are like 4-0 or something, against the Jags in the playoffs. HAHAHAHA.

It is also funny to hear the people rag on Florio when he writes anything that isnt against the Hatriots. Florio was one of the most critical writers against what Belichick was accused of doing. How quickly we all forget.

Every team cheats, in some way, in some form. If you honestly and truly, dont believe that every team is doing something, you arent living in the same America as the rest of us.

Whether it is scrambling the audio from the coaches to the QB, or raising the temp in the dome, watering the field before a game to slow down a faster opponent, sending towel boys into the locker room to try to find game plans, trying to ice the "K" ball so the kicker misses. Every team is doing something. Whether it is "as bad" as what the Pats did, can be debated. But anything that is purposely done, to gain an advantage on your opponent, is technically cheating.

If you are one of the anti Patriot crowd, you completely disagree with what I just wrote, if you are pro Patriot, you agree with it whole heartedly. This is reality, we can spin any situation to make it favor our point of view.

And the single funniest thing, are the fans that say the Pats werent punished enough. Who are you to tell the Commish that it wasnt a big enough penalty. However, regardless of whether you are satisfied with the penalty, it couldnt have been a bigger penalty. The max fine for the team was handed out. The max fine for the coach was handed out.
And the NFL took away a draft pick, the highest draft pick that they were allowed to take away, was taken. Some argue he should have been suspended, I dont have a problem with that argument, but regardless of whether you were "satisfied" with the punishment, doesnt mean it was a severe punishment. Why dont you ask BB what punishment he would have preferred. A four game suspension, or a first round draft pick? Considering they would have won the 4 games without BB anyways (16-0 for a reason), I think that first round pick would have been more handy, just my opinion

These comments prove a couple of things:

1. There is about a 60/40 split of fans who actually have a sense of humor and those who don't (Most of the 40% being Pats fans)

2. There are a ton of misconceptions about Jacksonville the city & it's fanbase because many of you are too lazy to research the truth and just regurgitate nonsense you hear & read on the web.

3. Vic is by far the most entertaining, controversial team beat writer in the league.

If you don't read "Ask Vic" daily you really should.

Mike,

Although I think this was a shameless attempt by you to get eyeballs and clicks on your site since this really isn't news or a rumor, I do have to sympathize a bit since you can't win. You write anything remotely Pro-Patriots and you are a Patriots homer. Write anything negative and you are Patriots hater. Some of the slow people on this board aren't quick enough to see that you are playing both sides of the fence to generate more traffic.

It's funny, and probably true. Belicheat and his gang of lowlifes that masquerade as a coaching staff will be brainstorming for the entire off season, trying to come up with new ways to circumvent the rules. They can't take the chance that Brady will find out that playing QB in the NFL is really hard when you don't know what the defense will run as you come to the line. He might even look like a 6th round draft pick.

Florio, quit being an idiot. It's the middle of the "dead zone," and the guy has to write a football column every day. He'll talk about most anything right about now to keep it interesting and lively, and 90% of what he says is tongue in cheek. Yeah, he does like to pick on the Pats for cheating (which they did), but he also praises the organization for their ability to field a dominant football team year after year. He takes the cheating business seriously though, because in his eyes it has ruined the integrity of the game. I tend to agree with that.

And where is all of this Jacksonville hatred coming from? Must be a lot of Pittsburgh fans...

Vic is the only non-pats columnist I regularly read.
He's pretty entertaining and knowledgeable.
I chock this up to the Pats repeatedly embarrassing the Jags in the playoffs so I'm enjoying it.

Wait, hasn't it been established by Matt Walsh that the tapes were never used in the same game, hence, the Pats would only have been cheating during the next game they played the Jets, or is that just too logical?

Heard any good jokes today? I just did: the City of Jacksonville!

Oh man, that was a good one. I just had the misfortune of living their for nearly three years, and let me tell you, what a pathetic bunch they are. There are definitely many redeeming qualities about the city... actually... many may be stretching it... but I digress. I will never, EVER forget driving over the Hart Bridge heading away from the stadium the night the Jaguars actually had a Monday night football game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and seeing car, after car, after car, after car, after car of Steelers flags, banners, stickers, jerseys, etc. That was the most embarrassed I have ever been for a team in the history of sports, to watch a group of fans come into a 74-something seat stadium after they tarped off like 20% of it and have at least 60% of the fans be for the away team. And 60% may be nice.

The funny thing about it, is you could have the University of Florida's chess team play in the center of the field against the Grand Prarie Community Clown College and the place would have tail-gaters selling out the parking lot a week before the game.

And man, what an uneducated bunch of people to have to sit with. It's like sitting next to a bunch of soccer moms and listening to them try to get involved. But what do you expect from a bunch of rednecks that are used to spending their Sunday's crushing beer cans on their head and watching shiny cars drive in a circle for hours at a time...

This is a rather pathetic attempt at making a story.

It was a pathetic story when Ketchman included the * to begin with, as it was in the guy's own power rankings, which he admittadly doesn't take serious to begin with.

What's also funny about that is that Ketchman praised---and still praises---the pats all the time, as he should.

The * was barely a jab, until idiots like Florio decided it was create-a-story time.

For some reason, Florio hates all things Jags related. Very odd.

It is good humor directly at the expense of the Patriots. But as a so called journalist, should he direct his focus on how much Kraft paid Matt Walsh for the one and only tape of the Rams Superbowl walk thru? Now that would be servicing the public's interest, an all but forgotten mandate of the press.

Many fans forget that the NFL is now primarily entertainment. Even the scandals are part of the entertainment. If you don't live in New England or claim you ever did, dumping on the Pats and their cheating ways is a great entertaining pastime. What makes it more fun is the denial of the Patriot fans. If they ever did a mea culpa, it wouldn't be half as much fun. It's humorous to keep reading Patriot fans trying to squirm their way out of moral culpability - most still refuse to accept any blame - so it's something that will never die until something else takes it's place. Florio is a perfect Pats fan on a mission - he uses his blog here to accuse everyone else in the NFL of doing something wrong as well. This is the classic Pats defense: everyone cheats in some way.

Vic was especially sarcastic yesterday. He's as bored as you are are Florio.

Nate from Colorado Springs, CO
My family and I are visiting Jacksonville for a day or two. What can we do there in those two days?

Vic: Sweat a lot.

Pulin from Jacksonville
Do you think we might start seeing teams go after the defensive player with the transmitter in his helmet in an effort to disrupt the flow of information from the opposing coaches to the defense?

Vic: The dot must go down and the dot must go down hard.

It's an obvious jab because the implication is not really off base, is it? Especially to Jags fans who recall the "technical difficulties" of the 2006 playoff game.

Hey Florio, you have to be kidding trying to stir controversy over sarcastic humor based on facts. What do you propose, censorship on the 32 NFL websites, so the other 31 teams are never offended? Don't you even think about the meaningless crap you try to turn into news? I know it's the NFL deadzone prior to training camps, but this is ridiculous......

It's funny how Florio is so far up the Pat's butt that when someone makes a tongue in cheek comment he rushes to the defense of the Pats who were fined and lost a draft pick for cheating. When Tom Brady farts sideways Florio says it was in jest and the "meida" doesn't get it. He's the biggest apologist for the Pats.

Once a cheater, always a cheater. Belichick isn't going to stop cheating, he'll only change how he cheats. His presence pollutes the entire NFL. Decent people would be ashamed to have that piece of filth as the head coach of their team and would run him out of town.
