In the day preceding the playoff game between the New England Patriots and the Jacksonville Jaguars, considerable attention was directed at the power rankings posted by Vic Ketchman of Jaguars.com.
At the bottom of the page, Ketcham included a designation that the Patriots “[c]heated in one game.”
Ketchman is at it again. Asked whether it’s optional for defenses to use the new system of sending defensive coaching signals via radio signals into the helmet of one of the defensive players, Ketchman had this to say:
“You may elect not to use the transmitter, but that could be dangerous in a game against the Patriots, who no doubt have stolen your hand signals. Of course, they’ll probably steal your transmission signal, so maybe it would be a better idea to use hand signals and have everybody on the sideline making hand gestures, that way the Patriots wouldn’t know who the real signal guy is. You could do that, or you could do what the Giants did: Rush the quarterback and rush the quarterback hard.”
Given the balance of the item in which that quote appears, it’s obvious to us that Ketchman was trying to be funny. Still, we have a feeling that this kind of jab (in jest or otherwise) directed by the employees of one NFL team toward another franchise is frowned upon within the 32-member fraternity that is the NFL.
Moreover, we also have a feeling that Ketchman will be soon getting all sorts of colorful questions from Pats fans for his next “Ask Vic” column.

It is good humor directly at the expense of the Patriots. But as a so called journalist, should he direct his focus on how much Kraft paid Matt Walsh for the one and only tape of the Rams Superbowl walk thru? Now that would be servicing the public’s interest, an all but forgotten mandate of the press.

This is a rather pathetic attempt at making a story.
It was a pathetic story when Ketchman included the * to begin with, as it was in the guy’s own power rankings, which he admittadly doesn’t take serious to begin with.
What’s also funny about that is that Ketchman praised—and still praises—the pats all the time, as he should.
The * was barely a jab, until idiots like Florio decided it was create-a-story time.
For some reason, Florio hates all things Jags related. Very odd.

Heard any good jokes today? I just did: the City of Jacksonville!
Oh man, that was a good one. I just had the misfortune of living their for nearly three years, and let me tell you, what a pathetic bunch they are. There are definitely many redeeming qualities about the city… actually… many may be stretching it… but I digress. I will never, EVER forget driving over the Hart Bridge heading away from the stadium the night the Jaguars actually had a Monday night football game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and seeing car, after car, after car, after car, after car of Steelers flags, banners, stickers, jerseys, etc. That was the most embarrassed I have ever been for a team in the history of sports, to watch a group of fans come into a 74-something seat stadium after they tarped off like 20% of it and have at least 60% of the fans be for the away team. And 60% may be nice.
The funny thing about it, is you could have the University of Florida’s chess team play in the center of the field against the Grand Prarie Community Clown College and the place would have tail-gaters selling out the parking lot a week before the game.
And man, what an uneducated bunch of people to have to sit with. It’s like sitting next to a bunch of soccer moms and listening to them try to get involved. But what do you expect from a bunch of rednecks that are used to spending their Sunday’s crushing beer cans on their head and watching shiny cars drive in a circle for hours at a time…

Wait, hasn’t it been established by Matt Walsh that the tapes were never used in the same game, hence, the Pats would only have been cheating during the next game they played the Jets, or is that just too logical?

Florio, quit being an idiot. It’s the middle of the “dead zone,” and the guy has to write a football column every day. He’ll talk about most anything right about now to keep it interesting and lively, and 90% of what he says is tongue in cheek. Yeah, he does like to pick on the Pats for cheating (which they did), but he also praises the organization for their ability to field a dominant football team year after year. He takes the cheating business seriously though, because in his eyes it has ruined the integrity of the game. I tend to agree with that.
And where is all of this Jacksonville hatred coming from? Must be a lot of Pittsburgh fans…

It’s funny, and probably true. Belicheat and his gang of lowlifes that masquerade as a coaching staff will be brainstorming for the entire off season, trying to come up with new ways to circumvent the rules. They can’t take the chance that Brady will find out that playing QB in the NFL is really hard when you don’t know what the defense will run as you come to the line. He might even look like a 6th round draft pick.

Mike,
Although I think this was a shameless attempt by you to get eyeballs and clicks on your site since this really isn’t news or a rumor, I do have to sympathize a bit since you can’t win. You write anything remotely Pro-Patriots and you are a Patriots homer. Write anything negative and you are Patriots hater. Some of the slow people on this board aren’t quick enough to see that you are playing both sides of the fence to generate more traffic.

These comments prove a couple of things:
1. There is about a 60/40 split of fans who actually have a sense of humor and those who don’t (Most of the 40% being Pats fans)
2. There are a ton of misconceptions about Jacksonville the city & it’s fanbase because many of you are too lazy to research the truth and just regurgitate nonsense you hear & read on the web.
3. Vic is by far the most entertaining, controversial team beat writer in the league.
If you don’t read “Ask Vic” daily you really should.

If I wrote for the Jags, I would come up with anything I could to trash the Pats, I mean, after all, the Pats are like 4-0 or something, against the Jags in the playoffs. HAHAHAHA.
It is also funny to hear the people rag on Florio when he writes anything that isnt against the Hatriots. Florio was one of the most critical writers against what Belichick was accused of doing. How quickly we all forget.
Every team cheats, in some way, in some form. If you honestly and truly, dont believe that every team is doing something, you arent living in the same America as the rest of us.
Whether it is scrambling the audio from the coaches to the QB, or raising the temp in the dome, watering the field before a game to slow down a faster opponent, sending towel boys into the locker room to try to find game plans, trying to ice the “K” ball so the kicker misses. Every team is doing something. Whether it is “as bad” as what the Pats did, can be debated. But anything that is purposely done, to gain an advantage on your opponent, is technically cheating.
If you are one of the anti Patriot crowd, you completely disagree with what I just wrote, if you are pro Patriot, you agree with it whole heartedly. This is reality, we can spin any situation to make it favor our point of view.
And the single funniest thing, are the fans that say the Pats werent punished enough. Who are you to tell the Commish that it wasnt a big enough penalty. However, regardless of whether you are satisfied with the penalty, it couldnt have been a bigger penalty. The max fine for the team was handed out. The max fine for the coach was handed out.
And the NFL took away a draft pick, the highest draft pick that they were allowed to take away, was taken. Some argue he should have been suspended, I dont have a problem with that argument, but regardless of whether you were “satisfied” with the punishment, doesnt mean it was a severe punishment. Why dont you ask BB what punishment he would have preferred. A four game suspension, or a first round draft pick? Considering they would have won the 4 games without BB anyways (16-0 for a reason), I think that first round pick would have been more handy, just my opinion

I think he is dead-on. Would it surprise anyone if it came to light that the Pats, along with disrupting opposing teams Coordinator Qb transmissions which numerous teams have experienced at crucial times during games, also intercepted those communications? You know they did!
I believe this is what Goodell was covering up when he destroyed the evidence. Taping was the least of his worries.
