As the ssssslow period on the NFL calendar continues to be filled with new twists on old stories (and, frankly, we’re not complaining), ESPN has offered up an interview of Bengals receiver Chad Johnson.
Strangely, the task of talking to Johnson went to Stephen A. Smith, who to our knowledge has had zero prior involvement in the network’s coverage of the NFL. (Maybe one of the 583 ESPN on-air personalities paid to cover the NFL weren’t available.)
That said, Smith did a great job of getting Chad to open up. And, in so doing, to prove that when lawyer Eric Deters said Chad has the “mental agility of a small soap dish,” the American League of Small Soap Dishes should have immediately demanded an apology.
For starters, Chad flat-out admits that he showed up for mandatory minicamp only because of the potential financial consequences of staying away. “I’m crazy,” he said. “I ain’t stupid. And I looked at all the fine print of me not showing up, and they could have got me if they wanted to.”
In other words, Chad didn’t have some sort of ephiphany. He still, in his heart, wants out. But he realized he can’t force his way out by not showing up.
He was hardly convincing when Smith pressed him on whether he wants to be a member of the team, especially when Chad said, “I ain’t got no choice.”
Chad also suggested earlier in the discussion that the word “disgruntled” is beyond the scope of his comprehension skills, and he took exception, in rather emotional fashion, to the suggestion that he is emotional.
“I was venting, I’m not emotional,” Johnson said. “Whoever used that dumb word ‘emotional.’ I’m not emotional.”
So kudos to Smith and to ESPN for coaxing out of Chad even further evidence that he’s disgruntled, emotional, and/or crazy.
Just don’t compare him to a small soap dish. Because small soap dishes have feelings too.

Why don’t you put a link up to show your readers how it really went down. Maybe cause you left out some important details in the interview in the hopes of stirring drama. Chad is BORING Florio. Get over it already. Trying to get rid of all tha left over popcorn still I see. Just throw it away and move on.

So where do you guys scoop Chad in your fantasy league? If he’s gonna be there and play, I’d love to get him in the late rounds of my draft. When would picking him up be considered a reach, and when would it be a safe risk/reward bet?

Frankly, the best thing that could happen to dear ole Chad is that he gets his wish, the Ben-Gay-Gals cut him, and absolutely NOBODY even works him out, EVER.
Won’t happen.. but..

Didn’t you hear? Stephen A. Smith took over Michael Irvin’s “Interviewer of Angry Black Athlete” role at ESPN after Irvin was fired.

okay, people need to stop using the term “turd” so much. Seriously, it’s not that funny. He’s also not a “turd”. He hasn’t been arrested for anything, he’s just a jack-ass. Think before you type.

Somebody tape this idiot’s mouth shut so that he can stop contradicting himself in public on a regular basis.
“why dont you just stop talking for a while there champ. maybe just take the next couple of rounds off. you gotta quit spitting things out the moment that they pop into your head.”

oh and SSS beware of him in fantasy, i think espn has him rated in the 50’s and he’s not exactly the type of guy that does well under pressure (game or personal). In all the mocks ive done noone grabs him early even though he is ranking lower than his skillset would suggest.

“I was venting, I’m not emotional,” Johnson said. “Whoever used that dumb word ‘emotional.’ I’m not emotional.”
Mystery solved. Now we know why he refers to himself as a number in improper Spanish. He’s an android. Androids have to vent every 6 months or their processors overheat and of course have no emotion.

Chad didn’t have “some sort of ephiphany?”
Perhaps he had an epiphany? Let me know if you still need a proofreader.
