The comments made by radio icon Don Imus on Monday regarding Cowboys cornerback Adam Jones have caught the attention of Rev. Al Sharpton, who led the charge to take down Imus in the wake of his comments regarding the Rutgers women’s basketball team.
“It has been reported to me that statements were made by Mr. Imus this morning and National Action Network has monitored his show since his return,” Sharpton said in a statement. “I find the inference of his remark disturbing because it plays into stereotypes. Any use of stereotypes is always counterproductive. We will determine in the next day or so whether or not his remark warrants direct action on our part as we did in April of last year.”
We’re not sure why Sharpton’s group needs to take a day or so to decide what to do, unless the question of whether it’s right or wrong to take action is determined based on whether it’s right or wrong with respect to the broader interests and agenda of Sharpton’s group.
Imus is expected to address the issue on Tuesday morning during his show, which means that someone outside of New York City might actually be listening to the show on Tuesday morning.
Based on an e-mail he sent to the New York Times, Imus is expected to explain that his comments were intended to reflect that Jones’ race made him a target for police attention. “I meant he was being picked on because he’s black,’’ Imus wrote.
Imus also told the Times that he’ll raise the issue with comedian Dick Gregory, an African-American, during Tuesday’s show. Gregory was already scheduled to appear on the show to discuss the passing of George Carlin. “We’ll see what [Gregory] thinks,’’ Imus told the Times. “I mean . . . come on!’’
No, Don, you come on. You don’t get the benefit of the doubt on this one. If you had a history of pointing out that police unfairly target black men for handcuffs, fingerprints, and mug shots, then your words would be assessed from that context. Your history instead suggests that you’ve had yet another slip of the tongue, and that you meant not that Jones has been arrested because the police like to arrest black men, but that he has been in trouble because he is a black man.

Jolly, you need to study WWII, about 210,000 Japanese people were killed when the bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and I’m not saying that makes a difference since people were still killed, but know your facts. Look where this topic is going, haha. Anyway, jx, I was going to make that same point about comedians in general who are not black making fun of white people. That being said jx, it’s easy for you to say that “people” need to be more worried about their education. Why didn’t you just say black people while making yet another generalization about us. So now black people aren’t as concerned with being productive or their education as much as they are with the white man? People need to think before they speak or else they just end up creating more generalizations and making an ass out of themselves. I would love for some of these people saying that blacks play the victim all of the time to try being black for a while. As much as you try to live your life without seeing color, things happen everyday that make you realize that you are sometimes being treated unfair because of your color. And it just doesn’t come from other ethnicities, it comes from other black people as well. Being a minority in this country is not easy at all. People need to take sociology classes and brush up on their history.

Thanks for the facts Kidekk…..was too lazy to look it up knew a good old fashioned exageration would bring it out.
Notice none of the haters had the gumption to do so.
America is a powerful Nation. But just like NotreDame football, the Lakers and Yankees, whe you are on top for a long time people get tired. And when you get on top by killing, oppressing and stealing? Well sooner or later the CHICKENS WILL COME HOME TO ROOST!!!
But everyone wants to talk about Vick getting what he deserves, Pacman, OJ and all those they do not identify with.
Just don’t mention the sins of our fathers, and don’t the victims of these sins dare continue to suffer from such and speak the truth.
We are willing to criticize the Blacks who are uneducated and are raised in a system that is definitely broken and do not have the means to avoid many of the vices that plague the community. But a pass is given to the White wholly educated rich CEOs who defraud the masses out of their life savings just to pad their pockets and purchase that fifth home.
While a Black man who steals to put food in his mouth is brandished forever as a failure and dragged to jail immediately, a man who steals millions is allowed to drive himself to jail to serve a 20year sentence.
But Blacks and other minorities are the horrible ones.

Jolly - it seems that your point is that black people as a whole should not be generalized because of what black criminals do…and you are correct. And in the same context, white people as a whole, should not be generalized for what white criminals did during the years of slavery. I had nothing to do with that, just like you have nothing to do with what some gangbanger does. And to make a statement that white people are in the same class as child abusers, pedophiles, and rapists shows your ignorance and simple mindedness.
Kidekk - “people” in my statement means exactly that. I’m not going to beat around the bush with you or anyone else. If I meant black people, then that’s what I would’ve said. There are plenty of ignorant, uneducated white people out there that spend more time worrying about everyone else and what they’re doing other than their own stupid selves.

Aha…..Jx……You are offended by me putting White people in the same context as rapist etc….Don’t White people rape, murder and abuse?
But you do not in anyway identify the Race in such a way, do you? Take a second look at what is being attributed to the Black Race. Now you see the problem?
All White people aren’t anything. Nor are all Blacks, Indians, Latinos, Chinese.
We all develop tendencies depending on the CULTURE we have been brought up around. Simple as that!!
Am a Black man but not from American culture. My mindset is quite different from many Black Americans, and same for Whites. But too many times when looking at someone else the first thing we make note of is our differences, not our similarities.
Maybe when we look at others the same way we look at a prospective girlfriend, then this World will change for the better. But that will never change i suppose.

Never beat a woman, never abused a child, never raped anybody… I never even owned a slave. Hell my great grandparents didn’t even get here until 1895. I refuse the “white guilt” crap. I’m still not gonna joke about other races because it might get me ventilated at worst or harassed by the Rainblow Coalition and the National Action Nincompoops types at best. On the other hand, if I were black and could make enough good jokes about other races, I’d get three HBO Specials and a billion bucks whether or not anyone in my family tree was ever persecuted.

my god, did anyone posting here actually hear the whole show to begin with?
prior to this sports report, imus and co. were talking about racial profiling. at the time, his comments seemed directly tied to the previous segment. now you get all these idiots only hearing part of the story that want to crucify him…again. shame on you florio for aiding this, when you yourself probably didn’t listen to the whole exchange to begin with.
why the hell do you think that sharpton and w-abc are going easy on him this time? it’s all contextual.

Vox….Am sure you are frustrated with that, but it is what it is.
Would you make a joke at the dinner table about the poor if your affluent family had invited a poor family to dinner? You did not contribute to their plight but it would definitely be a douche thing to do and would probably end the mood there.
When I first came to the US I took a job driving Semis. One Cold February evenning am in the Northern Pennsylvania boondocks sick like a dog emerging from a Walmart with some medication. Between me and the truck are two White women unloading groceries from a cart. Between them and the truck is the cart return. one of the ladies proceeds to return the cart walking about 10 feet ahead of me. She wheels around to return to the car spots me freezes DEAD in her tracks for about as long as it takes for me to walk 7 feet and go pass her.
Fear…Simply because I am Black…..This is a woman am sure has never suffered from a crime comitted by a Black person, and the area is quite frankly devoid of Blacks. She however saw my Black skin and equated that to criminal danger in the middle of a Walmart lot. Why? Is it all Blacks fault? Or is it also a Culture perpetuated by Whites and the way the marginalise and stereotype the Black Race?

As written by “empty13″ . Need I say more?……OK.
Blacks commit ALL the crime huh? What is interracial crime exactly? Are you suggesting Black commit crimes against Whites more than the other way around?
Because that’s not where the term BLack on bLACK crime came from.
The crime families in the US (mostly White) are pretty much idolised. But the petty crimes by Blacks are blown out of proportion.
All the petty crimes committed by poor Blacks are magnified while the Rich Whites whose crimes affect multitudes are swept under the rug as just mistakes.
I guess the two White men who raped and killed their stepdaughter in my neighborhood are really not White. Countless Whites are arrested for drunk driving….where’s the outcry.
Think of this for a moment…….Many of the White kids who excell in Sports come from middle class two parent well to do families.
Many of the Black kids who excell are from poor crime infested communities, single parent poorly educated struggling families. Which ones do you believe have the better judgement through learned behavior?
Blacks were brought here as Slaves dude. We have been fighting for centuries to be regarded as equals. We started with built in disadvantages. Disadvantages people like you are unaware and care little to think on.
It’s not an excuse it’s the truth. Majority of criminal Blacks come from the inner cities. Where the struggle to survive continues.
But how do you explain the crimes committed by Whites who have it all? Who affect alot more people?

You make a good point. But the role of Democratic Government is to protect Minorities from potential abuse by Majorities. A certain amount of stuff is human nature, and if the numbers don’t go your way, it can be scary and harmful.
But anyway, we all need to lighten up some. It’s only the really mean-spirited stuff that needs to be checked.

What makes you so sure? Maybe someone she knows was attacked in that Walmart parking lot by a white guy, and anyone approaching her might get the same reaction? You’re traveling pretty far to imply that you know what she was thinking. Then again, maybe she just had an irrational fear of a black man, but who knows why? Was it the marginalisation of blacks as perpetrated by white people or was it the marginalisation of blacks as perpetrated by black people via gangsta rap and such?

Okay for those of you shouting about “freedom of speech” lets look at the facts. Research when the constitution was developed. It started with the Bill of Rights that included “freedom of speech” in 1791. That was still slavery time up until around 1863. After this period, when all slaves were considered free, so to speak, what would happen and happened if a black man were to say something like “F U” or ” I hate you crackers” to a white man? Not being funny or anything, but he would be beaten, jailed or even hung wouldn’t he? He would not even have a fair chance at defending his remarks or anything of that nature. So how is that not “freedom of speech?” What I’m saying is that during the period of time that “freedom of speech” was in effect, it applied to the white race because the things whites said to blacks back then were overlooked, whereas the things blacks said to whites, they were jailed, beaten or hung for. In today’s society it is the other way around. Meaning, you have some blacks (mostly comedians) that say things about whites and society views it as funny. Then you have some whites that say things about blacks and society views it as racial. That’s where you have the “freedom of speech” supporters come in and claim “people have the right to say what they want under the constitution”. But, if this was true all these years, how do you explain Blacks that were jailed, beaten, and murdered for doing the exact same thing that the constitution guaranteed since 1791, even after blacks were awarded freedom? Let’s be honest, besides comedians, how many blacks do you see in the media say something racist about a white person? It really never happens….it’s always someone white that is saying something racist about blacks. All I’m saying is that I love all people, especially people who have an understanding of God and his love for all. At the same time, call a spade a spade. If you find it funny when a black comedian makes a joke about whites, laugh when someone white makes a joke about someone black. If you view or viewed someone white calling a black person the N word back in the day or now as “freedom of speech”, view someone black from back in the day calling a white person a cracker as the same, “FREEDOM OF SPEECH.” And not warrant of jail, a slashing, or murder…God Bless!!!
