The San Francisco 49ers have signed tight end Delanie Walker to a contract extension.  The move apparently came earlier in the offseason; it was first reported over the weekend.

Walker has only 23 catches in 23 career games, but he received a three-year, $6 million extension, which included a $1.8 million signing bonus.

The 2006 sixth-round pick is now signed through 2012.

It’s unclear when the deal was signed, but the numbers already are on file with the NFLPA.  Walker will receive base salaries of $445,000 in 2008, $535,000 in 2009, $655,000 in 2010, $750,000 in 2011, and $1.045 million in 2012.

A former college wideout, Walker is listed in the NFLPA salary database as a receiver.  On the team’s official site, however, Walker is still identified as a tight end.

UPDATE:  The deal was signed on April 21.  The deal also includes roster bonuses of $650,000 in 2010, $400,000 in 2011, and $400,000 in 2012, along with more than $1 million in potential escalators.
