1) why would you state something as fact when you “know it’s a generalization”, lol?

2) it’s nice that the recent turds you can think of happen to be the most publicized cases (courtesy of the very objective ESPN, who for sure can’t be biased…at all). they all happen to be black, so it can’t just be a coincidence (over a sample of four players where the population is mostly black…VERY SIGNIFICANT OF COURSE). REAL OBJECTIVE THERE chief. jared allen, lofa tatupu have been arrested for DUIs. they are not black. coincidence? I THINK NOT!!! (sorry, maybe i should get two more players to meet your criteria for a decent sample size to make “objective” conclusions off of)

3) tell me, which statistics support his opinion (specifically, which data) and in what way? you might want to look up what causation, correlation, confounding variables, and outliers are before you make anymore “objective” statements that are generalizations but are also facts! lol get real

Take an objective look at the statistics. I know this is a generalization, but it is a fact that the percentage of blacks that commit serious crimes is FAR higher than the percentage of whites. Now I’m not saying that all white NFL players are perfect ciitizens, cuz they aren’t, and I’m not saying that most black NFLers are thugs, cuz they aren’t. But when you think of the recent turds in the NFL, who comes to mind. For me, its Vick, Pacman, Chris Henry, and Tank Johnson. They all happen to be black. Coincidince? I think not.

Leave Imus alone and let him speak him mind. ESPECIALLY when the statistics support his opinion.

part2: imus’s comments don’t really bother me. he is a shock jockey after all whose had a history of making controversial remarks. and it’s still a likelihood that he meant it as in blacks are targeted by police more often than white people are (as opposed to, pacman is black so it’s understandable that he has such a high propensity for crime). anyways, imus may not be a racist (as in harboring ill will towards a certain race) but he sure does makes a lot of ignorant and offensive comments about racial groups. i’m sure white people don’t like it when a black person makes ignorant generalizations about how white people can’t jump/dance/etc.

however, the comments here going off-tangent and trying to defend the notion that blacks are associated with crime by “statistical truth” without any further backdrop on racial relations is some of the most ignorant shit i’ve ever read. the comments generalizing the rate of crime among black nfl players to BLACK PEOPLE is major LOL. that’s like me generalizing the rate of crime amongst white enron executives to white people in general.

part1: ‘Why is what Imus said such a travesty but Barrack Obama, who may be the next President of the USA, can call his grandmother a “typical white person” and thats ok? Heck, not only was it ok, it was lauded as one of the best speeches in history. Imagine if McCain said, so-and-so is a “typical black person”. You think the reaction would be the same? umm, wtf? obama did catch flack for saying what he did from the media, not just conservative newssites either. but the fact that he’s running for president means there are going to be spokespersons to clear it up and soften the blow. imo, despite the clear up, it was still a very ignorant thing to say and he probably lost of a lot votes for that.

btw, if you haven’t figured it out already, obama is half-white, not that it should have anything to do with it (clearly, it does to you).

I’d just like to say that overall, and I repeat OVERALL, the African American community is much more racist than the white community. They do need to change the perception. Just think about the phrase “stop black on black crime.” Why not stop all crime. Is black on white crime O.K.?
That said, Imus shouldn’t have said what he did, when he was under the microscope anyway. No matter what he meant.

Has noone noticed that that comment can be interpreted as…Well, there you go…multiple arrests…due to RACIAL PROFILING? I think we need to begin to be more colorblind in our interpretation of what people say. If the same comment had been made (with knowing nods) by a person of a ‘different color’…wouldn’t we all be assuming the reference was to the classic southern pattern of racial profiling? If anything, I suspect Imus is being exceptionally cautious…and has erred in the odious direction of POLITICAL CORRECTNESS. PC communication tends to skirt issues, obfuscate and generally annoy any and everyone (of ALL ethnicities) with common sense.

Don Imus is ashamed of his heritage so he makes these ignorant statements so that the people he tries so hard to fit in with will not ask the same question he has asked about Mr. Jones. Think about how many people who have spent most… if not all of their lives “passing for white” only to come out years later and have the truth revealed. All is needed is for someone to shake his family tree and I’ll bet a Black/African American person or two will fall off. We all know the rules. All it takes is a drop in the bloodline.

It’s funny, because I was always under the impression that we had free speech in this country. I will be the first one to agree that Don Imus’ racist statements are ignorant, but as much as they annoy me, they don’t annoy me near as much as “PC” Police out there who are constantly looking for stories about “villains” and their poor unsuspecting “victims”.

Who cares what Imus has to say. The guy is obviously a racist. At the same time, there are PLENTY of black racists spouting hatred out there and you seldom hear much about that - unless they happen to be pastors of presidential candidates.

People need to quit being so sensitive about what morons have to say. The fact is that they have a right to voice their opinions too.

My point is that YOU DO NOT HAVE A RIGHT TO BE FREE FROM BEING OFFENDED. This goes for every race, religion, orientation, etc. If you don’t like what someone says on the radio, turn the channel.

I practiced criminal law (defense) for about 8 years, and handled many cases as a public defender. From my experience, I’d say if you were looking for a common denominator among “perps”, the following criteria would be more accurate as a top-3 (and in this order):

1) Drug/Alcohol Addiction
2) Poverty
3) Mental Illness

There is a common myth that most “criminals” are black. Anyone who has practiced criminal law for a while knows this is false.

It would be more accurate to say that most “criminals” are drug addicts and/or alcoholics, and most crimes in a regular courtroom will be related to alcoholism and/or drug addiction (DUIs make up about 80% of a court’s caseload on any given day). Obviously, drunk drivers come in all colors, shapes and sizes. Not sure about my parents’ generation, but nowadays the cops will arrest you for DUI with absolutely no regard to your color, religion, or any other factor (unless you have an LEO association business card in your wallet, but even then, you’re probably going to be arrested).

The second most common criminal charge (of the serious ones, things other than driving with a suspended license, etc) would probably be domestic violence. Again, you see all shapes, colors and sizes. There really doesn’t seem to be any patterns evident based on race. Go to any suburban courtroom in a predominantly white county, and you will see as many DV cases as you would in a predominantly black county (with similar population, of course).

The facts do not support statements that “blacks commit more crimes.” If you honestly believe this, I would highly suggest spending an afternoon in your local courthouse, watching cases and seeing who’s there. If you live in an all-white neighborhood, you will see plenty of white people being charged with crimes in your local courthouse.

Wait, are you guys getting political? I come here for NFL updates and inside stuff, along with some pretty decent humor. Why are you trying to beat the bushes on this one? Steer clear of the politics and radio-policing (esp. since it could likely come back and bite you in the ass one day) and give your readers what they come here for. empty13, read some Supreme Court decisions, and you’ll fully understand free speech. It’s not 100 percent, say-anything, especially if what you say can cause harm to others — or, if you’re in the press, saying something is fact when it in fact is not.

I actually was just for a little suspension for Don Imus last time, but this time he most certainly crossed the line. What he said was racist. He is a racist. What’s the point of being a racist? How can people look themselves in the mirror and in today’s society be racist?

A step in the right direction will occur when Barack Obama becomes the 44th President of the United States, though.

A) Free speech has limitations. You can’t yell fire in a crowded movie theater and hate speech isn’t protected (or at least it shouldn’t be). Since he’s on the radio and this is his job they are well within their rights to punish him (and they should) for ish like this. There are regulations of what can be said over the airways and they have to answer to their advertisers. This kind of action if it gets noticed will result in threats from the advertisers to pull out which will equal good bye Imus.

B) Yes if you look around these sports figures in the NFL getting busted are probably predominantly African American. Does that mean that their “race” has anything to do with criminal behavior? Of course not. It just means that if you look around the league is predominantly made up of African American players so they have a higher chance of having a number of them getting arrested for being idiots. Simply put since there are fewer whites in the league there are a fewer chances of one of them doing something criminal. The large amount of African Americans in the league however are law abiding and from the list posted earlier about their free camps good human beings.

Just because Imus is racist and white does not mean all whites are racist and just because Pacman is a moron and a criminal does not mean that all African Americans are either.

As I see it the amount this blows up will be affected by how many people actually hear this and probably how people feel about Pacman. You had innocent college girls in the last blow up this time you have a thug who still has to demonstrate he’s changed his ways. Pacman can’t champion this cause it will have to come from those outraged by these comments disparaging an entire group of people because of the actions of one man.
