The Giants have parted ways with quarterback Jared Lorenzen, known in various parts as the Pillsbury Throw-boy, the Hefty Lefty, and (our personal favorite) the Lord of the Ring Dings.

Lorenzen was dumped on Monday, leaving four quarterbacks on the roster:  Eli Manning, David Carr, Anthony Wright, and rookie Andre Woodson.  Presumably, Carr and Wright will compete for the No. 2 spot, with Woodson getting a chance to learn the ropes at No. 3.

The Giants extended to Lorenzen a low-level restricted free agent tender earlier this year, which he signed on March 31.  Since the tender would have given the Giants no compensation if Lorenzen had signed elsewhere, it’s fair to assume that the Giants wanted him in February, but have since changed their minds.

Lorenzen, a left-hander, is built more like an offensive lineman.

For his career, Lorenzen has appeared in four games and thrown eight passes, completing four, for 28 yards.  He has no touchdown passes, no interceptions, and a passer rating of 58.3.
