That whole Buzz Bissinger-Will Leitch live TV showdown on HBO’s Costas Now has sparked a closer look at web sites known generally as “blogs.”
There have been many articles written, both in the old media and the new, in the wake of the April 29, 2008 incident. We mention two of them here because they’re so well written. And because we get mentioned.
This one in the Boston Phoenix includes the following quote: “’There are some very good blogs dedicated to single subjects,’” [Bissinger] acknowledges; his examples include Beerleaguer, dedicated to the Philadelphia Phillies, and profootballtalk.com. ‘They’re very informational. Their goal isn’t to play a snarky game of gotcha, or to be malicious and cruel. They’re great.’”
Some would beg to differ on whether we’re malicious or cruel. (We don’t think we are; we just think we tell the truth as we perceive it to be.) And some would beg to differ on whether we’re “great.” (We don’t think we are; we prefer “stupendous.”)
This one, published in Sunday’s Los Angeles Times, reiterates that Bissinger is a PFT aficionado. The article also includes a couple of quotes from yours truly. Hell (heck), David Wharton even gave us the last word, an Eddie Murphy-Bill Cosby comparison that arises directly from the following clip from Murphy’s 1987 deservedly R-rated concert flick Raw.
In the interests of equal time, here’s an old curse-free clip from Cosby. We’ll leave it to the commenters to comment (duh) on which is funnier. (We choose both.)

I liked the clip of Eddie Murphy better, but the one with Cosby wasn’t his best to pit up against Eddie ripping on Cosby and doing a Pryor impersonation.
While Cosby’s dentist story was funny, and easy to relate to, the Murphy bit was better because he’s making fun of himself (and an all-time great like Cosby).

Ahhhh, Florio is excited because he gets a pat on the head from the same media outlets he disdains……

No comparison. Cosby completely out classes Murphy- hands down. I was unfamiliar with comedic insights of defecation.

I grew up in the 80’s and remember both of these acts when they came out. The hype around “Raw” was unrivaled, but I gotta say that Cosby standup was much funnier. Personally, I think Eddie’s “Delerious” was better than “Raw” even though the masses might not agree. The ice cream bit he does just never gets old. And the GI Joe up the a$$… priceless.

Eddie Murphy was the man, at least before he started cruising tranvestite prostitutes.
I tried to laugh at Bill Cosby as a kid, but my album must have been broken. It did make crave Jelllo though.
