Though it’s widely expected that Cowboys cornerback Pacman Jones will re-introduce himself as Adam Jones, the formal announcement has yet to come.
Jones planned to address the media after Thursday’s minicamp practice. But since Thursday’s minicamp practice was canceled, there was no access to Pacman. Or Adam.
Jones’ position coach explained that Pacman/Adam is/are serious about changing.
“He’s very serious. I think he understands that this is a big step for him this year,” secondary coach Dave Campo said, according to the AP. ”He’s hungry. He wants to do good. He wants to play good.”
We actually support the name change thing. Seriously. For more details, we present a PFTV segment on the issue.

”He’s hungry. He wants to do good. He wants to play good.” = He is broke and needs to get paid.

Nothing like an economic pinch to put someone right.
Maybe he talked to Curtis Enis at the 3rd shift garage door company.

I think this story is actually quite sad. I understand that “Pacman” has been through a lot, and any change of scenery could be good for him.
However, “Pacman” is not a name he was given by his friends, or by some gang, or anything else that gives the name itself a negative connotation. He was given that name by his grandmother when he was a baby.
For all intents and purposes, Pacman IS his name. Adam is his middle name. The idea that you have to give up your name to, as it were, clear your name is sad to me.
If he had gone by Adam his whole life we wouldn’t be expecting him to take on his middle name as a personality overhaul.

Yes, Lumas, it is such a heartbreaking situation. Pacman has been through a lot - mostly other people’s fault. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He’s totally misunderstood. He deserves a second chance.

Maybe I didn’t make my point here clearly enough. I am in no way trying to defend Adam, or Pacman, or whatever you want to call him. What is sad, to me, is that he has put himself in this position. He certainly has caused more than his fair share of trouble, and needs to find a way to stop. I just think that it is sad that his troubles have come so far that he has to try changing his name.
Not a defense of him, just an observation.

Lumas101 says:
“I just think that it is sad that his troubles have come so far that he has to try changing his name.”
Well it sounds like it was his choice. It is symbolic of turning over a new leaf, and may be as much for his own sake as anything else.

so adam no longer wants to be called “Pacman”, i guess he’s right and his new name should be “Rain Man”.

Shit, I feel ya, Lumas. I became distraught when I learned that Jeffery Dahmer had to give up his childhood nickname “Sparky”.
