Howard Balzer of The Sports Xchange reports that the NFL has suspended free-agent running back Mike Anderson and free-agent tackle Shane Olivea.
Anderson, who played most recently for the Ravens, has been suspended for a year, and Olivea, most recently of the Chargers, has been suspended for four games.
For Anderson, the suspension apparently arises under the substance-abuse policy. He previously was suspended four games under that policy in 2003. It’s unclear whether Olivea’s suspension flows from the substance-abuse policy or the steroids policy.
Anderson was the NFL’s offensive rookie of the year in 2000 as a member of the Broncos.

So, what team is Olivea signing with anyway?
Why haven’t we figured that out yet? Was it pending word on his suspension?

No wonder they both are free agents because if they were on a team at this point Goodell reserves the right to penalize the team as well for players whose conduct is detrimental to the team. No longer just the player who gets penalized, now it’s the teams fault too.

Not if they were signed as a free agent drock81.
Since they weren’t on the team when they were in trouble, the team wouldn’t be penalized for having them on the roster.
…I think.

Seems to be a trend here with FORMER Broncos’ off-the-field issues…

I wonder if the team Olivea was joining after June 1 was the Mean Machine.

Why is it that the NFL’s wonderful drug policy only seems to nab free agents?

Would it ever make sense to use steroids to recover from an injury get better faster and then flunk the test and take a four game break?

Long before anything went public, I heard that Olivea was having a major painkiller addiction problem last year following his back injury after getting bent over backwards by Adalius Thomas in the Week 2 Chargers-Patriots game.
Pretty much guarantee that it’s the reason behind the suspension.
