More information is emerging regarding whatever it was that resulted in Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw being thrown in the hoosegow recently.

His lawyer, Charlie Stacy, has issued the following statement, which again comes via Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger:

“Ahmad Bradshaw is currently serving a 30-day jail sentence in Abingdon Regional Jail in Virginia on a probation violation charged out of the Tazewell County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.  The underlying charge in this matter stems from an offense that occurred while Mr. Bradshaw was a juvenile.  Mr. Bradshaw has not been charged with any offense since being drafted by the New York Giants and is eager to put this matter behind him and be in training for the next season.”

This carefully crafted pile of gobbldy-gook sweetened with a dash of mumbo-jumbo ignores the reality that Bradshaw necessarily did something to result being placed in prison for 30 days.  Unless he’s trying to re-create an episode of Morgan Spurlock’s FX series, Bradshaw violated the terms of his probation, got caught, and is paying the price.

Nevertheless, Mr. Stacy’s statement, as well as the prior statement released by the team, completely ignores the reality that Bradshaw did something to deserve being jailed.  Both statements also overlook the fact that Bradshaw knew that he’d be incarcerated, given that he apparently surrendered voluntarily on Saturday as part of an apparently pre-arranged sentence that would fall within a rare dead spot on the NFL calendar.

Thus, we think that this is all an elaborate strategy aimed at allowing the Giants not to cut Bradshaw loose, even though he supposedly is/was on a short leash given his pre-draft transgressions.  Since there’s no new “incident,” there’s no reason to take action against Bradshaw.

Still, we challenge the Giants and Charlie Stacy to come clean on what Bradshaw did.  We also challenge the media to not fall for the line of crap that the team and the lawyer are selling (as Garafolo apparently has, based on his comments at the bottom of his latest entry).
