The Green Bay Press-Gazette (via the Palm Beach Post) reports that the Green Bay Packers recently made an “exploratory inquiry” regarding the availability of Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor.
“Anytime you can get a guy of that caliber, you’d want to try to get him,” said Packers defensive tackles coach Bob Nunn, who was on the Dolphins’ staff from 2000 to 2002. “But I don’t get involved in anything like that.”
The real question is whether the Dolphins and the Packers could reach an agreement as to trade terms for a player who has publicly said that he plans to play only one more year.
And it would be ironic if the Packers finally acquired a guy who can make a Reggie White-style impact in the first year after the Hall of Fame quarterback who lobbied for such a move retired.

Someday soon, here’s hoping you can report on the Packers without slipping in a Brett Favre reference. Let it go.

The Pack has plenty of decent recievers to trade as well as some good LBs. Both Abdul Hodge and Desmond Bishop are MLB, which I’m pretty sure the ‘Phins need. I wouldn’t think TT would give up a draft pick for a one year player.
Wouldn’t mind seeing Jason Taylor come to town.

Careful TT. If you deal for Taylor, you might get King Brett back as well.

Didn’t Parcell say he wants Taylor on the team? I guess he’s still mad at him for dancing with the stars.

I would love to see Taylor in the Green and Gold. But most likely the asking price is too high for Ted Thompson. I wouldn’t give up and more than a 3rd round this year and a performance-based pick in 2010

LOL @ beau.
GB has been linked to seeking the services of Randy Moss, Taylor, LJ, and Michael Turner over the last 14 months, and every time I hear about one of those guys I get a little excited, but then we always shy away from whatever the asking price is. If you know our GM Thompson, you know he is all about acquiring young talent and keeping away from big-time vets, with the exception of Charles Woodson. The chances of this are nil.
I could only see it happening if Miami would take a 5th or maybe a 4th and we could get him to play for $3-5 MIL. It sounds like he wants to be in a marketable city, and Green Bay is the antithesis of that, but if wanted to join a contender for one last shot at a SB, Green Bay wouldn’t be a terrible destination IMO for that.

Why the reference to Brett Favre? Players play, coaches coach and GM’s put together the roster. Who cares what Brett thinks, might have thought or would do in this situation? I suppose it brings up another subject besides Spygate to harp on.

Maybe it will be something like this:
3rd round pick for JT as is.
2nd round pick if he resigns with GB for 2 years
1st round pick if he resigns with GB for 4 years. (or maybe 2nd in ‘09 and 2nd in ‘10)
That would give JT and GB the option of letting him play the 1 and done, or play out his years in GB with a few runs at a SB title with a young team.
The only thing about GB is the QB situation. They could be in for a few long years like Miami, searching for the next Favre, if Rodgers doesn’t pan out.

caveat: lifetime packer fan here who’s grown up knowing 3 quarterbacks: lynn dickey, a guy we affectionately referred to as “randy wrong,”, some other guy we called “the magik man”, and favre…. most of my years as a football fan have been spent cheering for #4.
still, i’ve moved on 100% from this. new era, period. i wouldn’t want brett back on the team, to tell you the honest truth. at this point, its over.
if he still wants to play i’d be thrilled to see a trade for Jason Taylor; he’d be mostly harmless in Miami, i’d think.

I highly doubt that a trade is going to be worked out for Jason Taylor. He says he’s playing for 1 more year and no one will pay the price that the Dolphins are asking for a 1 year player.
