We’ve resisted mentioning this one ever since our friends at Sports By Brooks gave us the head’s up on Tuesday. Not because it’s not intriguing, but because we don’t care to sift through another 1,000 e-mails and/or comments begging us to allow the Great and Powerful Favre to remain retired.
Still, just in case it means Favre is secretly plotting a return, we need to mention this one.
Favre committed in May to participating in the American Century Celebrity Golf Tournament, which will be held on July 11 through 13 in Lake Tahoe. Five days ago, his people advised NBC that Favre is “probably not coming,” due to a scheduling conflict.
But if Favre is secretly planning to show up for the start of training camp, he’d still be able to play in the tournament. Training camp doesn’t open until July 28.
So we don’t think it’s evidence of anything, other than that Favre has changed his mind about spending a weekend in Tahoe. He still might change his mind about being retired, but the two events are, in our view, unrelated.

wow, news! i read the AP article earlier this morning and it didn’t even cross my mind that his could possibly be construed as evidence he was secretly plotting a return to training camp… but, thanks for pointing out the painfully obvious

Didn’t you used to make fun of the other sports media for excessive Farve coverage? If training camp doesn’t even start until July 28th, how is it even necessary to point out that him not playing golf on some weekend doesn’t have anything to do with a “secret training camp plot”, if one exists? God, this is gonna go on next year too when Farve’s like “I’ve still got the zip, and I feel 6 years younger.”

This isn’t news, at least not yet. What was news was when Favre said he was shutting outside activities down for a year and *then* showed up on Letterman.
If Favre is skipping out, it’s because he talked about laying low for 12 months after the retirement.
If he’s planning a return, the only reason not to go golfing would be to avoid further scrutiny from friends and the press or to hide the possibility he is still in game-playing shape.
On the other hand, maybe that would be a great way to let clubs know you’re still in shape…I give up.

Oh geez. This guy will be 72 and if his plans happen to take him anywhere close to Green Bay in time for training camp, people will assume he is coming back.
There are a million reasons — 999,999 of them having nothing to do with football - why he had a scheduling conflict.
Leave the guy retired. He should have done so 4 years ago. He is gone finally. Let’s just enjoy that fact.

Not a Favre basher, but he should stay retired. Rodgers by all accounts is stepping up to a leadership roll, and becoming the leader of the team. It’s time to see what he can do, pulling the rug out from under him now would set him back.

In other news:
Tiger woods has opted to sit out until 2009 because of injuries. We’re pretty sure this has nothing to do with Barrack Obama selecting a vice president. He still might choose Tiger as his VP, but the two events are, in our view, unrelated.

This is a great new trend of reporting what’s not going on.
I’m a Viking fan with a scoop, Florio. There is no sign that Fran Tarkenton is planning on coming back. Let me know if I can provide any more scoops. Turns out this reporting sports thing isn’t too hard after all.

… or he set the whole thing up, so he could get himself some more attention.
Hey, it’s been a while since he was relevant (months?) - he needs to get himself into the media some more with will-he-or-wont-he b-llsh-t.

Well, he probably won’t play (golf), but then again, he still might…but most likely notetc. etc. etc.
Geez, if this guy was as indecisive on the field as he is off the field, he’d have been retired fifteen years and nobody would give a crap - not that anyone does now.

I have it on the best authority that Ted Thompson and Brett Favre were both abducted by an UFO, and this is the result of the mind control. The cheesehead hats that are worn in Lambeau Field are a communication device that calls the UFO…
Chad Johnson was also abducted, but the aliens let him out because he was even stranger than them. Coach Kevlar was also taken for a refresh surgery on the new skin he got last year by the aliens.
Give it a break already. Favre’s retired.

I wanted to know hat the general opinion was up in Green Bay about all of this. I live in Allentown, about 40mile from Philly, so there’s a pretty strong idea of how things will go with Donovan (who, last night did an interview on Daily News Live that didnt make him seen so cynical). From what i take out of it all it seems pretty cut and dry that Aaron Rogers is the guy now. They say all the right things(obviously), but my question is this, is that the feeling in the home town, or what? Im sure everyone thats not from there doenst have the insight many of you town folk might have, so if any readers are from the bay or surrounding areas sould you sound off on this. I for one, who respect Brett, am kinda tired of this story. I just wondered what the thoughts were from the homers.

hence here we have “Evidence of Florio smoking a Huka with other PFT writers”
