Buccaneers running back Warrick Dunn will be inducted next week into the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame.
Dunn has been instrumental in helping many single-parent families purchase homes, with his foundation providing the down payment and furnishings. Dunn’s efforts in this regard are a tribute to his late mother, who raised him and five siblings alone. She worked two jobs as a police officer and security guard, and was killed in the line of duty.
The other members of the class of 2008 are former NBA player Vlade Divac and Olympic skier Jimmie Heuga.
Past inductees include Arthur Ashe, Roberto Clemente, Julius Erving, Mel Blount, Pele’, Tom Landry, Steve Young, Jackie Robinson, Drew Bledsoe (seriously), and Steve Largent.

Thank you Warrick for allowing so many single mothers to be foreclosed upon.

Now this is a story that needs more attention. Forget about the constant updates referencing players who complain about the contracts they sign, about being ‘held hostage’ or demanding trades…
Warrick Dunn is a class act, and I’m glad to see him back in Tampa.

omegalh, That’s not funny. The economy is horrible……It’s not Warrick’s fault……He is a class act and I am proud to say he is on the Bucs…….If the NFL Hall of Fame voted on “Classiness”, Warrick would be a first ballot hall of famer……Good Job Warrick!

He couldn’t get the recognition he seeks on the field so he seeks it off the field. Thus the stupid statement about not wanting to be known for his off the field stuff but for his on the field stuff. I can’t stand the ant. Baby T.O. is what he is.

I may be too young to know, but WTF has Drew McQueen Bledsoe ever done for the humanity?
Does “losing-your-job-to-a-backup”, more than once, constitute examples of humanitarian actions?

Why would it be hard to believe that Drew Bledsoe is a humanitarian?
Completely random slight of a guy who is a class act. Keep up the good work. Jeezus.

@omegalh
Oh man…what a shithead you are.
Turd watch may/should be extended to some responders. It might filter out some of those that stubbled in here from FOX sports

He has always played hard. And off the field, he has always been a great roll model. He has played against my team for many of years. And he has always played well. And always been a respectable guy.
At a time when we have so many turds on the field, it’s nice to see someone like Dunn.
Truely a role model.

The only reason most don’t like Dunn is because he does what they wish the players on their team would do. How can you hate on a guy that cares about single moms, and HELPS not HURTS the community that he is a part of? Grow up and check yourself.

Bledsoe’s write up was really weak (over half referenced other awards he got … but how did he get those??)
But what does Florio have against the guy??

Career 10,000 yard rusher and one hell of a class act off the field. I believe that constitutes serious consideration for the Hall. The NFL should do as much as possible to highlight Dunn, as well as the sports media. It’s just a shame stories like this don’t sell papers.
I can almost guarantee that if Dunn ever got in any sort of trouble that would get 1000 times more coverage than his charity work and that is the sad state of the media.
Keep up the great work Warrick!
