U.S. Senator Arlen Specter suggested in an interview with the Philadelphia Daily News that he may be done looking into the New England Patriots’ practice of videotaping their opponents.
In the interview, Specter said, “I’ve gone as far as I can,” on the issue, and he doesn’t expect to call hearings or take matters further because the Senate Judiciary Committee already has “too much to do.”
If Specter is done pushing the Spygate issue, then the Spygate issue appears to be over. The NFL has long since said it’s ready to move on, and Specter was the last high-profile figure still pursuing the matter.
That doesn’t mean Specter thinks sports leagues should be outside the purview of United States Senators, though. He also told the Daily News that taxpayers should not have to pay for stadium construction for NFL owners.

Yes, a lack of closure for a huge scandal like this great, yeahh! Now we can always second guess the extent of the Patriots cheating, what real impact it had, etc… Three Super bowl wins where cheating was involved, awww to heck with it… play ball!

All of the Patriots championships were won before the league sent out the memo that Belichick “misinterpreted”. There’s no taint on the championships but a lot on Belichick.
HAHAHA…you said ‘Taint’.

‘HA Wingnut would rather be a fisherman than a Pats fan.
You should try being a Pats fan first. Trust me, much more fun when your team wins almost every weekend. ‘
I still remember when the rest of the league rode the Pats like a bicycle. Do you remember what the Pats were like before video tape?
I also remember reading that people used to wipe their asses with used corn cobs, so what’s your point?
The Pats used to suck on a weekly basis? Yep, they sure did. But those memories are much easier to live through as we just need to see those 3 Lombardi’s sitting in Gillette Stadium.
Yep, I certainly remember, which is why it’s even sweeter to see this team kick other teams’ asses on a weekly basis.
By the way, what’s wrong with being ridden like a bicycle?

It’s nice to see that Specter is finally going to do his job. Regardless, it’s nice to see this witchhunt is over. Although, there’s always a chance Kobe Bryant might stub his toe in Game 6 and it’ll be related somehow to camera gate by Florio.

I bet those corn cobs hurt. Did you use them last week? My point was the Patriots sucked immediately before they started taping.
You’re still at 60% of the Steeler’s Lombardis. We’ll see how sweet this year is for you, though I’ll wish you luck.

“My point was the Patriots sucked immediately before they started taping.”
The Pats were 8-8 the year before they started to tape defensive signals. They were 5-11 the first year they taped signals. In fact, they lost the infamous Tampa Bay game that year where the Pats supposably knew all the Bucs plays because they taped defensive signals.
Besides, anyone who watched the Patriots back during their first two Super Bowls, knows they were good because of superior defense and an average offense that didn’t make mistakes.
In 2003, the Pats had the 17th ranked offense (12th in PPG) and the 7th ranked defense (but first in fewest points allowed, along with most interceptions in the league, fewest passing TDs allowed, most defensive TDs scored with 5 which padded the Pats offensive PPG average, gave up the fewest passing TD, allowed opposing QBs to complete the second worst passing percentage, first in pass defenses, fourth in sacks, and second in total tackles).
Exactly how did stealing defensive signals make the Pats’ defense so good and the offense average?

I still don’t mind being ridden like a bicycle though…
It can be fun Mr. Magoo, you should try it with your wife. You might lighten up a bit.
Yep, they sure did suck before the video taping. Pete Carroll had a lot to do with that unfortunately.
As a matter of fact, they sucked in their first year (this is assuming that no one other than Belichick ever video taped signals before 2000 including himself) of video taping.
I guess they just needed practice on how to decipher grainy footage, unlock the encrypted signals, figure out which of the three coaches had the ‘live’ signal, relay this to the players during substitutions, and finally execute the play so they could use the footage during the same game as the ‘experts’ claim they did.
We’ll get to five before the Burgh gets a sixth, you can bet on that.
Keep ‘em coming magoo, I know you can do better…

You mean they didn’t have it TiVo’ed? Oh my God! What was I thinking?
I didn’t think they were using it in the same game, if I did I’d work at ESPN.

Who cares what his motives were? If he hadn’t gotten involved then Goodell would’ve never been forced to publicly acknowledge that the Patriots were cheating from the very beginning. Goodell and Kraft would’ve gotten away with a nice little piece of Hustle Bustle leading everyone to believe it was only 2006-07. Destroying those tapes stank from the very moment it was reported and now we know for a fact why. Now it’s time for Spector to be done….and let us, the NFL fans outside of New England, decide how history remembers the Cheating Pats. Props to Spector for making Goodell tell the world the truth. And props to John Tomase for prompting it all to happen with his immaculately timed article. And BIG UPS to Eric Mangini for subjecting that scumbag Belichick to months of public ridicule and humiliation.
Spygate may be over on the nightly ESPN telecasts Pats fans, but rest assured you’re nowhere near done hearing it from the rest of us. Have fun with that, I know I will.

So I take it Specter never got around to asking that “nice young boy” Matt Walsh what the other team was he witnessed video taping signals on the sideline?
I suppose I shouldn’t be too upset - after all, this is just about an obscure NFL manual rule that no one ever heard of before last September. But still - Walsh states that he witnessed another team “cheating” and NO ONE in the media, in the Senate, or in the commissioner’s office is the least bit interested in following up on that?

All I know for sure is the Patriots won during the time period when Bill Bellicheat was taping and once that stopped, the Patriots lost that Superbowl.
Karma has a funny way of exerting itself. Bellicheat is not a likeable guy to begin with and suffering from a case of moral bankruptcy has done nothing to enhance his image.

Wingnut, save your allowance money and maybe you can get an SRO ticket to watch the Raiders get killed by the Patriots this December. I know I’ll be enjoying the game from a luxury box (that is, as luxurious as anything can be in Oakland.)
By the way, is being semi-literate a requirement for Raider fans?
