Fox 26 in Houston is reporting that free agent linebacker Rosevelt Colvin has reached a verbal agreement to sign with the Texans.
Citing unnamed league sources, Fox 26 says the 30-year-old Colvin is on his way to Houston to sign with the club this morning. Colvin visited with the Texans early this month.
John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Texans see Colvin as a situational pass rusher who can line up on the opposite side of the field from defensive end Mario Williams on passing downs.
When he was at his best, Colvin was one of the league’s top pass-rushing linebackers, with back-to-back double-digit sack seasons in Chicago in 2001 and 2002. But after signing a free-agent contract with the Patriots, he had an uneven five-year stay in New England, struggling with injuries while occasionally showing flashes of that pass-rushing ability.

I’m in my 4th decade as a Houston NFL fan. I know bad teams, bad coaching staffs, bad GMs, and bad owners. Right now, I feel as good about all of the above than I have for a while.
Like I said before, I think 9-7 is about where they’ll be - and where they should be given where they’re at in terms of coaching, talent, time in scheme, etc. I know the team will be disappointed (realistically and rightfully so) if they’re not playing for a wild card spot in Week 17. They may not make it this year but there’s no reason to believe they’ll be worse than last year, and yes we’ve all looked at the schedule.
In terms of depth, Rick Smith and Gary Kubiak have completely turned around the roster since that pile of poo that took the field in 2005. Smith has pulled in a considerable amount of talent and the depth is as good as it’s ever been. There are holes, like every team, but there are fewer of them now than ever before.

I’m too scared to ask what 9 games you think they’ll win. It’s good to be optimistic. I just hope you handle disappointment well. You’ll know by Week 5 whether or not you’re playing for a playoff spot. Half your divisional games will be played by then. If you’re 0-3, book that vacation for January.

@ Kotite
“I appreciate your loyalty to your team”
-FYI, not even my team.
“I get this isn’t the Texans teams of the past, but you guys are starting to sound like everyone who picked the Cardinals to make the playoffs for the past 4 years.”
-Or just like everyone who still maintains that the Bengals are great. I said before, I don’t see them making playoffs. But I can see 9-7.
@aj
“No one is silly enough to be predicting a Div championship but anything less than 8-8 is certainly a disappointment this year.”
-Good point.

In fact, I can and WILL bet on another 8-8 season… and am predicting 9 wins btw.
Just so you know… the Texans led the league in players going to the IR last season. We lost Dunta Robinson, Schaub, A. Green, Andre Johnson, and many others all for lengthy periods of time last year. Those are HUGE pieces. AND WE STILL WENT 8-8. Say what you want about that Jax game, but we whooped them playing just as many back ups as they did. Not to mention we won big… and lead the overall series against Jax and always play them tough at home. And if you know the history with Jax, then quit being so naive like that game would have been some sort of a lock. I mean… if AJ doesnt get hit over the middle in week 2 and we dont lose our best player for half the season… who knows how well we finish? Point being we will be as healthy as any other team going into next season… and its the NFL like you say… maybe its the Titans or the Colts turn to get ravaged by injuries?? We got 8 wins last year despite all of our injuries. And what did we go and do this off season… get even more depth to soften any bad breaks we might endure. This is a better team than last year… PERIOD!!!

Okay, here it is
@pit loss
bal win
@ten win
@jax loss
indy loss
mia win
det win
–bye–
@min win
cin win
@indy loss
@cle loss
jax loss
@gb loss
ten win
@oak win
chi win
They can win those 9 games. Or if you prefer, swap out one of the jax losses and the minnesota win. Or split tennessee and jax. And who really knows how good cleveland is, I can see them in that one.
This is all just speculation, but 9 wins is very doable for this team.

Can we just say 7-9 and agree to disagree? And how you think you’re gonna waltz into Minnesota and steal a game on the road is beyond me.

If they lose to Min, they could beat Cle, or Jax. Or lose all 3 and go 8-8.
Hey, it’s funny, I wasted two days at work talking about the HOUSTON TEXANS! They’re not even my team!
