In an effort to make amends for jumping the gun on the whole Chad Johnson and the “n” word versus the “b” word thing, we’ve tracked down (i.e., a reader has sent to us) a video of Chad walking to and from minicamp practice while being interviewed by a dude from FOX in a polo shirt.
The video is right here.
Chad was belligerently coy (or coyly belligerent), but also kind of funny as he deflected questions. Here’s an excerpt.
Polo-shirted dude: “Chad, why were you so upset in the offseason?”
Chad: “Who said I was upset?”
Polo-shirted dude: “You did.”
Chad: “No I didn’t?”
Polo-shirted dude: “What did you say?”
Chad: “I don’t remember.”
In honor of the late Tim Russert’s uncanny ability to remind folks of past words that conflicted with their current ones, allow us to refresh Chad’s memory: “I will not be at any mandatory camp. I will not be at training camp. I will not be anywhere in Cincinnati. . . . This is not a joke. I really don’t want to play for the Bengals. Period.”
Everything in that statement has proven to be incorrect. Including this assertion that this is not a joke. Because it is a joke. Only not in the “funny ha-ha” way.

If you watch the rest of video, he completely explains the situation -he’s upset because his fans are upset…who are upset because he’s upset, because he hasn’t seen his $35 million.

Chad might be the dumbest person in the NFL, until pacman is fully reinstated.
So who will run out of money faster, Chad or Lehman Brothers?

You know, I used to like Chad Johnson. It seems I hated all the other spotlight hogging wideouts, but I liked Chad. Was it my bias as a Bengals fan? Maybe. But I would hear from talking heads and fishwrap writers a similar opinion.
But now, I must finally say, just shut up, Chad. Just shut up and play. I’m not looking forward to your next celebration, your next dance, your next hair cut. Just go out and do your job.

omegalh - Chad is very wealthy moron. Learn before you speak. It’s funny how people just jump to stupid conclusions when they probably have never met a professional athlete in their entire lives and never will… but hey, omegalh knows Chad Johnson’s personal finances.
More to the point, it’s a racial comment. He means black people are going to blow their money.
Find another board, omegalh.
As for Chadgate - who cares. He’s going to show up, he’s going to play, this isn’t even a story anymore. It’s over.
And, I wouldn’t doubt if he tops his numbers from last year. People can hate Chad all they want, he is one of the absolute best WR’s in the entire NFL. People who rag him would take him on their team in a heartbeat, if they had a heartbeat.

Florio, I joked that the media was upset about the lack of controvery from last week. They clearly wanted a Plax type locker room no practice blow up. They then went with the injury drama to make up for it. Now I am serious, this is pitiful. Give up already. Chad caused issues prior to the draft. He deserved criticism and negative attention. But he worked his way back in last week and all seems calm in the Jungle. The search for Chad “controvery” from last week and now this week is desperate.

The main thing is that Chad is happy. Everything else related to the NFL is secondary to Chad’s feelings.

The corporate media and all bloggers should use Chad Johnson as a test case for not covering moronic athletes any longer. Chad thrives on the media attention and everyone should just ignore him. Do not report anything this guy says or does because ultimately, nothing he says or does makes anyone’s life any better. Let the moron give a press conference and have no one show up. He won’t be misquoted because no one will be around to hear any of the meaninless statements he makes. Hell, I am tired of writing about him already.

hitdog…I got news for ya buddy. Like most of the athletes that go blowing their money on such wonderful assests as cars (the twenty or so Chad owns) he WILL be broke at some point. He spends as much as he earns, and when he’s out of football he’ll spend until his credit runs dry. Its not a black thing, its a lack of education on managing money thing. Ed McMahon isn’t black and he’s broke too. Its well documented that Chad doesn’t manage his money well.
