The NFL announced on Monday the formation of a new General Managers Advisory Committee.
The stated goals of the committee will be to protect and support the integrity of the game, expand the use of technology, focus on player development and scouting opportunities, and develop innovative ideas to improve the Pro Bowl, Scouting Combine, NFL Draft, and preseason.
The committee will be Co-Chaired by NFL Executive V.P. of Football Operations Ray Anderson and former Giants G.M. Ernie Accorsi.
The initial members are Rod Graves (Arizona Cardinals); Jerry Angelo (Chicago Bears); Kevin Colbert (Pittsburgh Steelers); James Harris (Jacksonville Jaguars); Tom Heckert (Philadelphia Eagles); Marty Hurney (Carolina Panthers); Mickey Loomis (New Orleans Saints); Carl Peterson (Kansas City Chiefs); Jerry Reese (New York Giants); Tim Ruskell (Seattle Seahawks); Rick Smith (Houston Texans); and Mike Tannenbaum (New York Jets).
We’ve got no idea how this list was picked or what the goals were by way of composition of the group. Still, we wonder whether there are other G.M.-types who believe that they are more competent and/or qualified than some of the men who made the cut, and whether the mere existence of this committee will provide a basis for rivalries and/or strained relations among some of the folks who run NFL front offices.

I was thinking the same thing I believe Florio was inferring– what a piss-poor list of GMs. Shack Harris, Mickey Loomis, Rod Graves, Mike Tannenbaum, Jerry Angelo?? But again, that’s without knowing if there is any method to the madness. And just because one is not the best GM in the football sense doesn’t mean they’re not fit to be on a committee. Look at McKay.

This is easy! First most of the General manager selected have contrat through the 2012-2013 seasons. Also they pick charter franchises like Chicago and New York to represent the bigger markets and oldest of the group. Next they pick several newer franchisees and balanced it off by throwing an equal mix of NFC & AFL Teams. Suprised on NEw england not being in the mix! WINK WINK! PLus if they put all the good guys in at once they might get allot done!
Half of the franchisees either will extend current GM’s or hire new office personnel people by 2013. So there will be a new member down the road.
Another reason to drink, eat and be merry! Discuss the real issues. Hey Right!

Why isn’t the Bengals’ GM listed? Oh yeah, that’s right, because Mike Brown is stupid enough to run the team without a GM.

Since Gms, you know, already have a job to do, this list probably consists of those who didnt tell the NFL, “you do your job & i’ll do mine”

I am sure the Detroit fans would take up a collection to give the Bengals Millen.

They did a nice job of keeping McKay out only to do the next worst thing by naming Ernie Accorsi as Co-chair.
And nowhere to be found on the list of tasks is the word “fan”.

What if a team does not have a GM (like the patriots)?
