The NFL announced on Monday the formation of a new General Managers Advisory Committee.

The stated goals of the committee will be to protect and support the integrity of the game, expand the use of technology, focus on player development and scouting opportunities, and develop innovative ideas to improve the Pro Bowl, Scouting Combine, NFL Draft, and preseason.

The committee will be Co-Chaired by NFL Executive V.P. of Football Operations Ray Anderson and former Giants G.M. Ernie Accorsi.

The initial members are Rod Graves (Arizona Cardinals); Jerry Angelo (Chicago Bears); Kevin Colbert (Pittsburgh Steelers); James Harris (Jacksonville Jaguars); Tom Heckert (Philadelphia Eagles); Marty Hurney (Carolina Panthers); Mickey Loomis (New Orleans Saints);  Carl Peterson (Kansas City Chiefs); Jerry Reese (New York Giants); Tim Ruskell (Seattle Seahawks); Rick Smith (Houston Texans); and Mike Tannenbaum (New York Jets).

We’ve got no idea how this list was picked or what the goals were by way of composition of the group.  Still, we wonder whether there are other G.M.-types who believe that they are more competent and/or qualified than some of the men who made the cut, and whether the mere existence of this committee will provide a basis for rivalries and/or strained relations among some of the folks who run NFL front offices.
