Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin, who previously denied rumors that he wants a trade, now says that he might not report for training camp.
“I honestly can’t say at this point,” Boldin told Darren Urban of the Cardinals’ official web site via text message.
The problem is that the Cardinals paid receiver Larry Fitzgerald a four-year, $40 million contract earlier this year. That’s a lot more than what Boldin is earning, and the gap between the two players’ abilities is far narrower than the gap between their paychecks.
Boldin skipped the team’s voluntary workouts, but attended the mandatory minicamp. He showed up for the mandatory offseason practices, thus avoiding daily fines in excess of $8,000 and, possibly, an obligation to repay a big chunk of his signing bonus.
For training camp, the fine increases to more than $15,000 per day, and the signing bonus remains at risk. So look for Boldin to show up. He can talk tough for now, but when it’s time to report for duty or risk losing a lot of money, he’ll be there.
The broader question is whether the Cardinals will keep him. The Ken Whisenhunt offense isn’t premised on a high-powered passing game, so paying a huge amount of money to two wideouts doesn’t make much sense, especially with so many other needs on the roster. There’s still a chance, then, that the Cardinals will ship Boldin to another team. Primary candidates, as we see it, are the Cowboys and the Eagles.

What’s up with The Eagles haters? We’re passionate fans and just want our team to win. Philly is no more or less deserving then any of the other 31 teams.

Oh right, Bodlin isn’t a running back.

Why does everyone think that Lito is going to be included if they make a deal? The main issue between Boldin and the Cards is that Boldin wants a new contract and the Cards don’t want to give it to him. Why would they trade for a guy who is in a similar situation in Philly? Sheppard won’t play in AZ unless he has a new deal, which they won’t do.
I don’t follow the Cards but I’m sure Philly’s depth at other positions could be intriguing if packaged with draft picks (including the Eagles #1)

Are the Eagles really a “contender”? I would think Boldin would do whatever he could to get into Dallas, a true contender. A receiver of his caliber could put Dallas over the top. The eagles need a lot more than a receiver. Look at your linebackers.
What you eagles fans won’t admit is that if you don’t do it this year, you will not do it for many years. You have a qb who can’t stay on the field. He already has a potential nagging injury. Kolb is talented, but untested. He’ll need a season or two of “real” game experience. He may eventually be really good. It’s now or never for Mcnabb and most likely never. The Kolb era will be ushered in and it will be up to him to try and win won for the green.

Eagles are better than Dallas and the only reason the season ended up the way it did for the birds last year was because of special teams, which have been improved greatly in the off season. Dallas, 13 pro-bowlers and no playoff win, lol! The Birds linebackers are fine and young which translates to lots of speed so go ahead and try your short passing game aginst them this year, I beg you! What do the cowboys have that the Cards would want? The Iggles are in a much better situation to trade for Boldin, you boys fans are just dreaming. Birds went to the SB with TO and all dallas did was lose another playoff game. I doubt he Boldin goes anywhere but if he does its going to the Birds not the girls down in TX.

Hey Spoonman- wasn’t T.O. the player that was supposed to put the Cowboys “over the top”. By my calculations, since getting T.O., you still haven’t gotten over the top. He hasn’t helped you win a playoff game, has he? Now all you cowboy fans are saying it’s Boldin that will get you over the top…..What happened to T.O. being that guy, remember, you all were gonna win the Super Bowl when you signed him.

Yeeeah which way do you think Rosenhaus will steer him? Let’s see, notorious cheap skate low-baller Eagles, or moneybags Jones, who is known throughout the league as a guy that doesn’t mind paying good money to good players?
Bobbyacro says:
“Eagles are better than Dallas”
hahahaha not even close, slappy. Thy only finished what, 5 games behind the Cowboys last season? The Cowboys are even better now. Eagles still kinda suck, sorry.
Spoonman says:

What are you talking about? Their window closed a long time ago. McGagg is 17-16 as a starter since the Eagles went to the Super Bowl.

You must be talking about the Jets, because I can’t see the Eagles wanting to get hosed by Rosenhaus AGAIN. He’s probably telling Boldin right now what a bush league organization the Eagles are.
