They are all backloaded with huge piles of money that the players never see. In reality, they get paid the signing bonus, then make $5-800k for a few years. After that, the team offers up a new deal and they do it again, or they cut the player loose and they make a similar deal with a new team. It is all just grand posturing designed to make everyone say "ohh, look at how much money HE is getting". Nothing more than inflating the ego's of guys with huge ego's.
