Vinny DiTrani of the Bergen Record reports that Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey and G.M. Jerry Reese got into a “huge shouting match” at Friday’s minicamp practice.
Shockey apparently is upset about leaks from the front office to the media regarding Shockey’s alleged unhappiness and desire for a trade.
“There is an issue,” coach Tom Coughlin said Friday, apparently before the shouting match, “but it is not something that would prevent him from working.”

When’s the last time you’ve seen such dysfunction from defending Super Bowl champions?

Umm, the Eagles didn’t win a SuperBowl. Typical delusional beagle fan.
The only way Eagles go break .500 is if the entire league, except Philadelpha, goes to scab players.

hey maddenchamp….the Beagles were never defending super bowl champs….ever. Maybe in your madden world but not in the real life. You’re a joke if you think the Eagles can actually finish first in the NFC East. Typical delusional Beagle fan.
On to the topic at hand,
Jeremy Shockey needs to quit his whining already. I say they keep him on the roster but also keep him on the bench all year to teach him a lesson.

The Eagles did not win their Superbowl shot. BUT
I agree that the Giants will have a hangover, the Steelers did. The Bears did as the loser usually does. I believe all you PFT heads out there (like them or not) should count on the Pats going deep into the playoffs this season. It seems that a win or loss does not necessarily translate into a hangover or not anymore……ie Seattle (they do play in at least what was a week division though)

Shockey is overrated. Always has been. Very injury prone and has hands like feet. But, Big Blue has to hang on to him, because do you really believe in Kevin Boss yet? Giants will be lucky to finish 8-8, given the fact that the past Super Bowl winning teams (which were better than the 2007 version) had hangovers, the current one will as well. The loss of Strahan hurts alot more than everyone thinks.
As for my Philadelphia friends, the Eagles seem to be a trendy pick to be the 2008 version of the Giants. I don’t see it, with the same crappy WR corps and an aging defense, coupled with the overrated Asante Samuel, sorry to say, but the Cowgirls are going to run away with the division.

how is a team supposed to treat a guy that is the biggest personality turd in the nfl?
on talent, a few teams want him, I guess. Not the cowboys or bengals, so who is a contender?
He wants more money, most likely. So if he agrees to pay money back (that will take months to agree on since he likely thinks he is the hottest thing on the market), something might happen.
MAYBE the SAINTS, but I gotta think the giants will want the money paid back first AND the ‘aints will have to pony up a 5 year deal. After that, I can’t see any interest/leverage. The teams with the best superbowl odds are a) the pats (no interest) b) the chargers (no interest) c) the colts (no interest), d) the cowboys (no interest), e) the jags (no interest), f) the saints/vikings/packers,et al, (no interest)
Drew? WTF are you aiming for?? NOBODY wants this turd. His contract is MAXIMIZED!
Other teams may want Plaxico (but can’t have him) and NOBODY wants Chad Johnson (except Jerry Johnson and Al Davis).
You are the loudest agent ever sitting on the most unwanted pile of crap in NFL history!
And Shockey doesn’t even qualify for that pile of crap!
Mark this as the year that the ‘draft agent’ eats your lunch (honestly, has that ever not been true? get in touch with upshaw and save the cba. that is the only valiant thing you can do in your position)

Calling the defense aging on the Eagles pretty much proves you’ve never looked at the roster. Other than that, yea our WRs suck.
Victor Abiamiri DE 22
Chris Clemons DE 26
Trent Cole DE 25
Darren Howard DE 31
Brodrick Bunkley DT 24
Mike Patterson DT 24
Stewart Bradley LB 24
Omar Gaither LB 24
Chris Gocong LB 24
Joselio Hanson CB 26
Asante Samuel CB 27
Lito Sheppard CB 27
Sheldon Brown CB 29
Sean Considine S 26
Brian Dawkins S 34
Quintin Mikell S 27
With the exception of Dawkins, most of them are just approaching or are just beginning the “Prime Years” of 26 - 29

“If the eagles keep lito, they will have the best defense in the nfc east.”
They had the worst defense in the NFCE last year. You think adding Samuel is all of a sudden going to make them the best? More likely that he’ll be a huge bust for the Eagles, like Kearse and Howard.

Vox, did you watch the Eagles last year?
Let’s look at the defenses:
Points Per Game Allowed (since nothing else matters):
Eagles - 18.8
Redskins - 19.4
Cowboys - 20.3
Giants 21.9
I mean, seriously, at least pretend to do some research before you go trashing the Eagles defense. Our WRs are terrible, our QB always gets hurt, and our OTs are 34, and I’m listening to people say our defense is the issue. If you’d like to go over all the things the Eagles could improve upon, that is fine, I’m happy to trash our return game and WR corps, our problems at TE, and the complete and utter lack of a running game when we have the lead, but our defense? Do you even WATCH football?

As a “non-delusional” Eagles fan, I must admit that, despite the Giants being the defending Superbowl champs, the Cowgirls are still the best team in the NFC (net alone the NFC East). Their off-season acqisions have solidified that.
That said, the losers still need to win a playoff game.
Whether or not the Eagles compete this year will depend primarily on McNabb’s health. They have improved their defense and their special teams. A healthy McNabb and LJ Smith with help their offense. So they have “potential.” I wouldn’t count them out just yet.
As for the actual artical I am suppose to be commenting on, Shockey’s emotion is both his strength and his downfall. Knowing that everyone has criticized his behavior, one would think he’d be more discreet with his interactions with the front office. But he just can’t help himself. And that’s what made Boss a more effective TE for the team.

“Vox, did you watch the Eagles last year?”
Yeah, what part of “last in the division” do you not understand?
“Points Per Game Allowed (since nothing else matters)”
Yeah Sparky, all that matters for defenses is PPG… because it’s not like teams ever sit on the ball to run out the clock when they’re winning late, and go balls out trying to score when they’re behind late. Forget crap like turnovers and sacks and yards per play, that stuff doesn’t matter!
“If you’d like to go over all the things the Eagles could improve upon, that is fine, I’m happy to trash our return game and WR corps, our problems at TE, and the complete and utter lack of a running game when we have the lead, but our defense? Do you even WATCH football?”
Sure, I watch a lot of football. The Eagles obviously didn’t think that their defense was all that… they recently spent about $60 million on what they perceive to be an upgrade over Lito Sheppard. Or maybe they really didn’t think that the defense needed some improvement and spent that money just for the fun of it? Dead last by far in turnovers, 2nd to last ahead of only the Redskins in sacks, most yards per offensive play given up with 5.1… you’re whistling past the graveyard.

In the end, who cares how many turnovers you get if you give up a lot of points? You could have TERRIBLE special teams blocking and allow very few yards. In the end, points are what win and lose games. Who cares if you have 10 sacks a game but give up 30 points?
We got another CB because Lito gets hurt. We wanted more turnovers, that doesn’t mean the defense sucks, it means we value the position. Knocking on the defense shows you know nothing. Our offense was the problem. We had a top ten offense in every statistic but we barely scored any points, especially if you don’t count the game against Detroit.
In the end scoring more points than you allow your opponent to score wins football games, if you didn’t know. The Eagles for years have been a “bend but don’t break” defense, and last year was no different. In the Red Zone they’re stalwart, but on your 20 you can move on them.
