Former Bengals receiver Chris Henry has been suspended, again, by the National Football League.

Henry previously was sent to the showers for the first eight games of the 2007 season.  This time, the suspension applies through an upcoming trial on Henry’s most recent arrest.

The trial, arising from charges of assault and criminal damaging, begins on June 24 in Hamilton County.

Several readers told us that the ESPN scroll indicated the Henry was suspended for the entire 2008 season.  The suspension does not apply so broadly, yet.

The suspension apparently is not a new development.  Henry reportedly was blocked by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell from joining a new team after a judge granted Henry relief from his house arrest in order to travel to meet with potential NFL suitors.

Earlier in the day, we posted a link to a recent item from a small Texas newspaper, which suggested that Henry has been working out on an “unofficial” basis with the New Orleans Saints.

In the letter communicating to Henry his eight-game suspension in 2007, Goodell wrote, “I must emphasize to you that this is your last opportunity to salvage your NFL career.”  Presumably, Henry will be banned from the NFL for life if he is convicted at his upcoming trial.
