Last week, the acquisition of fullback Luke Lawton by the Philadelphia Eagles caused the team to flip Dan Klecko back to the defensive line. The latest transaction might ultimately end Klecko’s short tenure with the team.
The Eagles have re-signed veteran defensive tackle Kim von Oelhoffen, to a one-year deal. The man who blew apart Carson Palmer’s knee with a low hit during the 2005 playoffs spent 2007 with the Eagles, appearing in eight games and starting one of them. With von Oehlhoffen being brought back only a week or so after Klecko switched back to defensive tackle, it could be a sign that the Eagles believe that Klecko simply doesn’t have what the team is looking for at that position.
Von Oelhoffen entered the league as a sixth-round draft pick in 1994, and spent six years with the Bengals before spending six with the Steelers. He played for the Jets in 2006, and then signed with Philly last year.
The Eagles also signed two of their 2008 sixth-round picks, guard Mike Gibson and linebacker Andy Studebaker, and released nine guys of whom we’d never heard. Or if we had we’d long since forgotten.

I don’t think it’s fair to mention the Palmer hit– I thought it was an accident and Kimo was very apologetic about it. He didn’t pull a Wilfork, IMO.

I have to agree with Colinito, I am a Steeler fan so obviously I have a bias, but Kimo has never been a dirty player, not with the Bungals, and not with the Steelers whom he spent a combined 12 years with. After he hit Palmer he immediately noticed a problem and motioned for medical attention. Kimo, rather than standing over Palmer and taunting him ala Travis Johnson over Trent Green, was immediately remorseful and sorry it happened.

I like Kimo, this move just adds depth and insurance to a system he’s already familiar with.

LaJuan Ramsey was one of the players they cut. He’d be the DT that was being replaced by Kimo. I don’t think this says anything about Klecko.

I agree with the 1st two posters
Kimo was a very solid 3-4 DE with the Steelers and never received much hype or attention as many 3-4 DE’s do not. He shouldn’t be remembered for that play and I don’t understand the reasoning in bringing it up? Hoping for a Steelers/Bengals fan arguement which means more comments = more hits for the site, I suppose?
Also, why do you care so much about Klecko? Why does he deserve much more than a one liner, rather than the 3 or 4 posts about him already. Seriously, who cares about Klecko?

The hit on Carson is what Kimo’s going to be remembered most for. It’s completely fair to mention it. It was a “low hit” that “blew apart” Carson’s knee, both of which are true. Was it malicious? No. Was he blocked into him? No. Was it avoidable? Absolutely.
Unfortunately and understandably, Kimo’s the devil to most Bengals fans. I don’t care if he didn’t taunt him, we hate him for it.

Actually that hit was dirty as hell. Anyone who watches the tape can plainly see that the ball was out of Carson’s hands (and completed 66 yards down field) by the time Kimo the Assassin had him in his grip. He also intentionally twisted his knee which is what caused him to go to the ground. If it wasn’t a bad hit the NFL would NOT have made a rule specifically to NOT allow that type of hit in the future. Kimo the Assassin motioned for Medical attention right after the hit because he succeeded what he set out to do and expected him to require medical attention afterward. Whether you like it or not that guy will ALWAYS be known as the guy who took out Carson’s knee intentionally.
The Piss Stains only defend him because they know had Carson not gone down, The Bengals would have been the SB Champs that year instead of them.

“He shouldn’t be remembered for that play and I don’t understand the reasoning in bringing it up?”
Unfortunately, injuries that take out key guys at the wrong time get remembered. Sorta like Eagles fans will always remember Bryce Paup from GB, not because he had a decent career but because he broke Randall Cunninghams leg. Same reason Ray Mancini will always bring up Duc Koo Kim (or however you spell his name).

I’m a bengal fan and I like kimo and I understand the reason for mentioning “the hit”.
it seems stupid, but it’s just a way for ppl who don’t know about him to make a recognition of who he is. I know it may seem like an attack on kimo, but I like him and i’m not upset by the comment about the hit.

I half get what some of you are saying that this is how people remember him. I still don’t think it is relevant to him signing with the Eagles. I suppose I’m just biased as a Steelers fan because I remember him as a rock solid DE for a few good years rather than the hit on Palmer.
Oh well, can’t win all the arguements.

I agree completely with Billyt0020, and I am a completely unbiased observer (Falcons fan, no affiliation to Steeler- or Bengal-dom).
Most everyone has seemingly forgiven Von Oelhoeffen (sp?), but I never will. Well, I was going to post a link to the video of “the hit”, but it’s nowhere to be found anymore - I wonder why? It’s not even so much a hit as it is KVO reaching up and twisting Palmer’s knee well after the ball was thrown. KVO was already lying down, rolled over and reached up to “make the hit”. Yeah, he called for help immediately, because when you annihilate someone’s knee, you can freaking feel it explode. Sure, he came out publicly and said he was sorry and he didn’t do it on purpose.
And everyone just took it on the chin. Not me.

Maybe that’s why the Bengals have been crappy since that year. They’re having the Super Bowl winners’ hangover that they rightfully deserve. Hee.

The Bengals would’ve been SB Champs????? Are u freakin’ kidding me? I’m not a steelers fan but I know THEY were the best team that year. It’s always easy to blame someone else isn’t it? It’s football, players get hurt all the time. Why don’t you blame your pathetic defense for not getting to the SB? Whoever your backup was should’ve stepped up. Quit your bitchin’.

As a Steelers fan, Kimo is the stuff of legend. Nothing makes me happier than the replay of Kimo crumpling Palmer into the turf. His knee blowing apart was a thing of beauty only rivaled my the pitiful sight of the Bengals pathetic fans standing mouth agap as they came to the realization their season was over. As you know the Steelers went on to hoist their 5th Lombardi. The Bengals haven’t been the same since. When you think about it, can you blame Chad Johnson? I can’t…

Right or wrong, fair or not, there’s no way his career is going to be remembered for anything but Palmer’s injury. And why should it? If it didn’t happen, we wouldn’t remember him at all.
Clearly, asking Bengals fans about it, that one play was the only reason the Steelers won that game, plus three others, en route to the Super Bowl. Can’t blame them, though, fans of a team that never wins have a tendency to hold on to their lukewarm moment in the sun.
Did Kimo force Chad Johnson to swing on Marvin Lewis at halftime of that game? Nope. Did it change the fact the Steelers kicked the tar out of Cincinnati once already that season? uh-uh.
I’d listen to your homer logic if the Steelers lost the following week, but they didn’t. Their hero didn’t step up in a crucial moment too (Bettis), and they got two huge pass break-ups from a rookie to beat the Colts. What did the Bengals dowhen their Messiah went down? Oh yeah, they attacked their coach and quit in the third quarter.
Definitely sounds like a Super Bowl champion.
