It was a shocker on Friday afternoon to learn that NBC’s Tim Russert died today at age 58. When we heard about it, we immediately wanted to post something on the site, even though it is unrelated to the world of football.
Thanks to a statement released by the Buffalo Bills, we now can say a few words about Mr. Russert.
“The Buffalo Bills organization is devastated in hearing the news of the passing of Tim Russert,” the statement reads. “Tim, as everyone knows, was a tremendous Bills fan. He was always so proud to let people know just how much he loved our team and was such a great ambassador for Buffalo. So many times he ended his ‘Meet The Press’ show with his patented ‘Go Bills!’ that it became part of our Game Day morning rituals. He was a true friend and we will miss him immensely. Our sincere sympathies go out to his family and our team carries a heavy heart tonight as we mourn the loss of this great man, Buffalo’s native son and a Bills fan forever.”
There was something about Russert that was different. He didn’t seem like a journalist. He came off more like a regular guy who coincidentally happened to be very good at gathering and reporting on the news. By all appearances, he was decent and he was fair and it’s obvious from watching the live feed of MSNBC that he was beloved by his colleagues and competitors.
Our thoughts go out to his family, friends, and coworkers.

Tim Russert seem like just one of the guys…not like some of those political reporters that think they are above the common man..He seem as though he asked the questions you ,your self would ask if we ever had a chance…He seemed real and true…never getting caught up in being the hot shot reporter…but just a reporter that came through to everyday people …No matter the issue or political view he seemed to keep your interest…He will be deeply missed..My prayers go out to him and his family….He was a great man

I don’t buy it. He said the wrong thing to the wrong person. For those that need an explanation, watch V for Vendetta.
“Nothing is a coincidence”.
Organized crime also involved at Belmont. What would yield maximum profits? A bet putting Big Brown in LAST place. Someone made the jockey and offer he couldn’t refuse.
This is unfortunately the world we live in today…

I was shocked and saddened when I heard this news this afternoon. I religiously watched him on Meet the Press as he’s the only person I’ve known in that capacity during my time following politics. He was always hard nosed with the politicians and asked the questions the common person would want to know. He’ll be sorely missed at NBC as he’ll be a tough act to follow. My prayers go out to his surviving father, widow, and son.

Indeed, such a sad day. Mr. Russert will be terribly missed, as his was a voice America could trust. My prayers go out to his family, and the rest of the NBC news team who held him in such grand esteem.

On a personal, human level, condolences to his family and friends. On a professional level, he was a mediocre tele-journalist who rarely asked the tough, pointed questions and too often pitched lob-balls to politicos such as Cheney. The reality was that Meet The Press under Russert was more a talk show than a hard-hitting news show.

Mr. Russert was clearly the best NBC Universal had to offer on NBC or MSNBC. “Meet the Press” will not be the same. Yes, he will be greatly missed. My condolences to his family.

We have lost a national treasure. I will miss his ability to cut through the crap and get to the point without being rude or emotional. I cannot think of a single person that will/could replace him

Perhaps the only politcal journalist I would stop to watch. When my wife called me to let me know he passed, I was shocked. First thought in my mind was it can’t be…just had watched a video of him being interviewed about the election, and he was so happy, animated…alive.
Honestly, you knew everytime he spoke that he loved what he did, if only we could all be that lucky.

and treez, put the pipe down.
Anyone that uses a fictional movie based on a comic book to explain a current event needs to get a job, move out of mom’s basement, and i dunno, date a woman.

RIP Tim Russert. You epitomized true greatness.
The way he gathered information and pressed the politicians for truth and fairness should be an inspiration to all. His questions were always perfect, and he went toe-to-toe with any intellect.
Russert was a hardworking wonder who bettered our country.
Aside for the tremendous sadness to follow from his family, loved ones, and friends, what bothers me the most is that Russert will not see how this exciting, historic, and wonderful ‘08 election plays out — he won’t have that white board on election night for all of us to see. He won’t be there these upcoming Sunday mornings for us to wake up to.
The country will come to a pinnacle on the special November evening, and though Russert is as fair as they come, he undoubtedly leans Democrat, as he worked under one ..
.. and Democrats are going to be thrilled to death. If anyone deserves to see what happens, it’s him. Tim Russert will not see the first African American in our country’s history elected President, as God-willing all of us will. And Russert deserves to see that.

No matter what you think about his questions, he was always a class act. I always admired his work - with one notable exception being the last democratic debate he co-hosted - for it’s knack at getting at the truth. He would always ask questions of a politician and then once they answer, point to a monitor and say ” so if that is how you feel, why did you say this back in 2001?”.
My condolances to his wife and son, as well as his co-worker.
RIP Tim. You were one of the good guys!
PS: Treez, STFU. MOrons like you should learn to be more respectful around subjects like this. This is not a “spygate” post.
