An attempt to figure out Browns coach Eric Mangini’s super-secret depth chart. A slew of draft prospects visited with the Steelers on Wednesday, including Wake Forest CB Alphonso Smith. John McClain of the Houston Chronicle thinks the NFL made the right decision by making the Texans-Titans game a Monday night affair. Said Colts CB Marlin Jackson of his knee rehab, “I’m pretty far ahead of schedule. Originally, the things [doctors] were telling me were devastating to hear. Now, I know I’ll be ready for training camp. No doubt.” Said Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew, “The Jaguars really didn’t have to do this. Obviously, they wanted to. They felt that way about me, and I’m very thankful for that.” Needs at several positions won’t change the Titans’ preference for selecting the best available player. Mike Mayock of the NFL Network believes the Broncos are “crazy” if they don’t do what it takes to draft USC QB Mark Sanchez. Bill Williamson of ESPN.com thinks DT Glenn Dorsey and DE Tamba Hali are bad fits for the Chiefs 3-4 defense. Said Raiders coach Tom Cable of his quarterbacks, “Those guys have been going at it. Jeff [Garcia] is such a competitive guy and going at it with JaMarcus [Russell], and JaMarcus is taking to it and it’s been everything I’ve wanted it to be so far.” The Chargers re-signed restricted free agent CB Cletis Gordon for $1.545 million. Texas Tech S Darcel McBath is scheduled to visit the Cowboys this week. Tom Rock of Newsday likes Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin more than Browns WR Braylon Edwards as a potential trade target for the Giants. Eagles RB Brian Westbrook and T Stacy Andrews probably won’t take part in the post-draft minicamp. Redskins G Randy Thomas played the second half of the 2008 season with a herniated disk in his neck that could have ended his career. David Haugh of the Chicago Tribune reports that the Bears aren’t locked in on a receiver in the second round. Said Lions coach Jim Schwartz on why the team hasn’t signed a veteran backup quarterback, “We’ll have a hard enough time trying to get reps to three quarterbacks as it is now. Said 49ers QB Shaun Hill, “The quarterback competition will all play out in due time. I just have to concentrate on improving every day and doing the best I can and that will all take care of itself.” Charles Robinson of Yahoo!
