A league source tells us that former Eagles V.P. of player personnel Jason Licht is expected to be hired soon by the Arizona Cardinals.
Licht was dumped by the Eagles several weeks, in a surprise move.
As we hear it, Licht will be working for the Cardinals in the pro personnel area. The difference between his new salary in Arizona and old salary in Philly presumably will be picked up by the Eagles, since he was fired with a year left on his contract.

Anyone know if there is anything stopping the Cardinals from paying him a very low first year salary and bumping it up to market value in the subsequent years of his contract? The Cards could practically get his services for free for a year that way.

I would think everyone should care, considering it would set a precedent in the league for not just front office personnel, but also coaches. A coordinator, assistant, or even head coach could get fired and then hired by a division rival with a minimum salary in however many years are left remaining on his original contract, thereby essentially receiving the coach’s services at the cost of your division rival.
