IT' OVER...GIVE IT UP. Your obsession with the Patriots, and I'm speaking to the haters is creepy.
So BB cheated who gives a flying Frig. You keep harping and harping on this subject that seems to have taken over your lives. Look, no one was hurt, your family members are ok, you didn't lose your job...so GET OVER IT. You people are so weird that I'm afraid that one of nutty haters will actually take out a fan or a player because the hatred is so despicable that you'll go postal. You're on the edge and all you need is a little bit of a push and then you're gone.

You haters are way out of control....but it's funny as hell!

C'mon Floiro give us more Patriot news and watch the kooks take it to the edge.

captainfantastik: my bad, i thought they had gotten the ball back twice (they only got it with 27 seconds left in regulation). however, that does not excuse the raider defense for allowing the pats to march down the field twice with the game on the line. they didnt play through the call, a call that admittingly was close, but that couldve easily gone either way.

also, please explain to me how what the patriots did gave them a dramatic edge that was the difference between winning and losing games. there is no evidence to support any theories that these tapes were used during games. therefore, how could they have had the affect on games required to discredit all the patriots have accomplished?

In Dec 2001 the Dever Broncos were fined $968,000 and lost a 3rd round draft pick for violating the salary cap to the tune of hiding 29 million! Then they were fined $950,000 and lost another third round pick for circumventing the cap between 1996 and 98! Raiders owner Al Davis went on record saying that the Broncos owner should have been suspended and that the cap violations helped them win their Superbowls. lots of sport experts have said this is worse than what the pats were involved in. Where the outrage? Do you feel the same about the Broncos as the Patriots.

Gee what a surprise, JoeSixPack on yet another thread just making sh*t up off the top of your head. Wlash never stated in any way whatsoever that other teams did the same thing. You wanna talk about crickets? Let’s see you post some Walsh quotes indicating he knew of other teams doing it. You already got pimpsmacked on your earlier false claim that what the Cheatriots did wasn’t against the rules. NR4 cited the NFL rule, NOT the memo. You just got OWNED. Now take your medicine and STFU.

Wow - kindof tough for me not to develop a superiority complex against guys like this.

Walsh stated clearly that he witnessed at least one other team engaged in exactly the same practice he was. Go back and read the transcript - and the article on this website where Florio comments about it. Owned indeed.

Then read the NFL rule that states where and when taping is allowed - and yes, taping of signal calling included - just as long as its not on the sideline.

No one has ever disputed that sideline taping is against the rules. Get a clue.

But seeing as taping signal calling is legal from other locations, can you explain what the big deal is? Walking across the street is legal on the crosswalks. Walking across the streets in prohibited locations is called Jaywalking. You've probably Jaywalked yourself. I guess that makes you a criminal just like the Patriots are cheaters.

LOL @ the Pats fans who are reduced to namecalling because they have no other recourse. Priceless. Especially funny coming from Rob who just recently claimed to only come to these pages to "stir the pot". I can see you Pats apologists couldn't care less what we think! Yeah right boys.....we believe you. Not. That's why you keep coming back to hear what we're saying. I love it!!!

Koolaid and Rob,

No, the Raiders never got the ball back. Patriots retained posession of the ball after the HOSEJOB CALL and sent the game into overtime on that very posession. They then won the toss in OT and drove to field goal range and Vinatieri ended it. So, NO, the Raiders never got the ball back and NO they didn't even get the chance to over come the call unless you consider being on the losing end of an OT coin toss to be a "chance to overcome the call".

GR365,

You should be a comedian. Seriously. What the Patriots did was cheating. That's why it's against the rules. It is a proven fact because there is physical evidence dating from 2000-2007. Sorry, Goodell got busted trying to cover for your crooked franchise. THANK YOU JOHN TOMASE!!!!Using a tape in ANY GAME is gainst the rules........as specified by both the rule as well as the memo. Using video equipment is against the rules.

"Use at any time, from the start to the finish of any game in which a club is a participant, of communication or information-gathering equipment, other than Polaroid-type cameras or field telephones, including without limitation to videotape machines, telephone tapping or bugging devices, or any other form of electronic device that might aid a team during the playing of a game.”

Simply put, you can't use video cameras at any time during a game to gather information (coaching signals qualify as information, obviously). In case you weren't aware, video tapes capture images utilizing "video tape machines". Information gathered in the tapes cannot be used during the playing of a game. It doesn't matter which game they're used for.

And Walsh never said specifically the tapes weren't ever used during a game. He simply decribed his basic routine and you guys ran with it. Let me know if you want some more because i'll be more than happy to continue to taking the Pats fans to school. I love making you guys crazy to the point of namecalling and insults. It amuses me. And what makes it even better is that all I have to do is simply state fact-based common sense points that you guys literally have no credible answer for. Keep it coming, and i'll do the same.

The Patriots cheated. Who cares how it was covered? They got a slap on the wrist for cheating during the seasons of 3 Super Bowl seasons (four if you count the losing Super Bowl.)

CaptainFantastik: the call on the that play was very close, and couldve gone either way. However, the raiders did, in fact, get the ball back (once in regulation and once in overtime i believe) and were unable to win the game. thats the difference between those raiders and the pittsburgh steelers team that overcame the horrible call on the polamalu interception to win the game. either way, that game was over six years ago now.

and on the taping. the pats were caught and were punished. hate them if you want. but there is no evidence to lead an objective person to believe that this practice was the difference between winning and losing games. whether or not you like the pats, "spygate" shouldnt change your perspective on the patriots accomplishments. the edge the pats have had over the league is having tom brady and bill belichick

and no i am not laurence maroney

KoolAid are you Lawrence Maroney?
CptMediocre It is NOT a Fact that tha Pats are cheaters. That's your tired explanation. It's a fact that you have your mind made up that something sinister occured with the tapes.(Schlereth Jr.) Take away the ability to utilize the tape during the game, because that never happened! You or nobody else has intiment knowledge of what went on at Gillette. Even Walsh said the tape remained in his posession until the game was over! You are what I like to call an amateur lawyer...and that's being kind.
The tapes were used as reference material on defensive coaches. How they signal, what thier tendencies are. The "big" advantage they gained is the ability to break the tape down later in the week or sometime before the next meeting! Ohhh! Nevermind the advantage of taping the cheerleaders.. Hey, whatever!
You can get a sandwich board sign that reads Pats are Cheaters, walk up and down the street. Doesn't make it true! Parcells was right, this is overblown to the point of absurdity! Irrationality aids no one.

"The Raiders should not have had to overcome that horrific call. If that play had been ruled as it should have been the game was over."

And the Steelers shouldn't have had to overcome the horrific call that said Troy Polumalu didn't intercept Peyton Manning when everyone in the world (including the league office that sent a letter of apology to the team) knew he did. They overcame it.

The Pats shouldn't had to overcome a bogus face guarding penalty (a rule that hasn't existed for a decade now) that basically cost them a TD against the Colts in the AFC Championship game two years ago. The Pats didn't overcome that loss. The Patriots also got a letter of an apology from the league for that bad call too.

The Seahawks shouldn't have had to overcome the questionable TD call by Roethlisberger in the Super Bowl. And they didn't.

My point is there has been some really bad calls that may or may not have cost a team a win in the playoffs. Some overcome this crushing bad calls and some don't. The league stands by their call in the Snow Bowl, but have admitted their mistakes in other games.

Get over it.

CaptainFantastik,

So is there a Charles Woodson exception against it being roughing the passer when a defender touches the QB in the helmet? I didn't realize that. Thanks for clearing it up.

So you aren't a Raiders fan. You are just a pathetic Patriots hater so obsessed with the Patriots that you know who posts on Patsfans.com. It is pretty sad really. I hate a lot of teams, but I don't know who posts on their sites nor do I know the popular fan sites for many of those teams. You gotta have an unhealthy obsession to have that much hate. I really feel sorry for you. Really.

I am done arguing a call that happened 6 1/2 years ago. If you actually had a life, you might not care either. Even the Raiders who played in that game are over it all ready. Move on.

Your obsession with the Patriots is going to send you into an early grave.

What color is the sky in your world CaptainFantastik?
The Patriots did not get found guilty of cheating in every game for 6 years. I sure hope you are not quilified for jury duty.

Kool aid, The Raiders should not have had to overcome that horrific call. If that play had been ruled as it should have been the game was over. The Patriots would not have gotten the ball back. The Raiders did not get the ball back "several times" after that play.

And LOL @ Ampats and the other Pats fans who want to divert the discussion to other teams because they've been owned on every front regarding their own. It doesn't matter what teams spybootz or anybody else roots for. Rest assured his team is not/has not ever been mired in a 6+ year cheating scandal. There's only one team with that distinction, and it's that very team that is the subject of this discussion. Knowing what team spybootz roots for and attacking that team in no way changes or diminishes the FACT that the Patrios have been proven to be cheaters of 6+ years.

There was no roughing of the passer in that frame Rob. Maybe over at Patsfans.com that's the popular justification. What you saw in that frame was Tom Brady with the football in a tuck that was by the book. Both hands were squarely on the football. It was fumble and should've been ruled as such. And of course the NFL wasn't going to go public and say they sent the wrong team to the Super Bowl. You weren't privy to any backroom discussions with any single member of any single NFL staff person.....so you have no clue what the NFL really thinks about that play. I'm sure, that much like SpyGate, the NFL simply wanted it to go away for PR reasons.

If anything Charles Woodson should be credited with fabulous timing in knocking the ball away.

Oh and by the way, i'm not a Raiders fan. I simply am able to call a spade a spade. I actually hate Al Davis and the Raiders. What's right is right. And what happened to the Raiders wasn't right. That's a part of the karma coming back around that your team has been on the recieving end of lately. It always comes back around. And when we're talking about Bill Belicheat and his 59 Minute and 58 Second Men it's a damn beautiful sight to behold.

"Pay special attention to the freezeframe at :53 of this video. The football is clearly within BOTH of Tom Brady."

You mean around the mark where Charles Woodson roughed the passer by hitting Brady in the head?

Sorry, but the league does not consider it being in two hands as being tucked into the body. It is stupid rule, but it is the rule none the less.

Can we next debate whether man discovered fire by rubbing two sticks together or by creating a spark by smacking two stones together? How about how Paul Revere was just one of three riders on that faithful night and how one of the other two guys was actually more important to awake the troops for the Revolutionary War? I love these relevant topics.

You Raiders fans have to get over the friggin tuck rule. Many other teams have gotten screwed by bad rules or calls since then. You don't hear them complaining anymore. Get over it. Your team sucks and will continue to suck as long as Al Davis is allowed to run the team.

CaptainFantastik,

lol, nice post. as disheartening as that game was and even though i like piling on the pats fans because of their legacy protecting, i'm not sure i can attribute the tuck rule to the patriots cheating.

i might subscribe to the conspiracy theory that the league doesn't like the raiders or that certain teams get the benefit of close calls (see kings vs lakers 2002, game 6)

Actually, the fans of every single team the Patriots played from 2000-to the beginning of 2007 have every right to be here talking about the Cheats......especially the ones who's team faced the cheating Patriots in the playoffs during the cheating years. So funny that the first Super Bowl they played in where they didn't cheat they lost. LOL. 18 - DOH!!! Biggest most laughable upset in the history of professional football. And the look on the faces of Belichick and his 59 Minute and 58 Second Men faces were absolutely priceless. LOL!

Oh, and the Tuck Rule call was a fumble. Here's the rule:

"NFL Rule 3, Section 21, Article 2, Note 2. When [an offensive] player is holding the ball to pass it forward, any intentional forward movement of his arm starts a forward pass, even if the player loses possession of the ball as he is attempting to tuck it back toward his body. Also, if the player has tucked the ball into his body and then loses possession, it is a fumble."

Pay special notice to that last sentence in the rule. Then watch this vid of the play:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZqc6VK_ti4

Pay special attention to the freezeframe at :53 of this video. The football is clearly within BOTH of Tom Brady. That, my friends, is when the ball is officially "tucked". Tom Brady is not a running back, he does not have to have the ball tucked into his body like one. FUMBLE. HOSEJOB. ASTERISK.

One other issue...Tuke rule was not written by BB! Tuke rule comments equate to "I hate the Patriots," Still got that stuck in your craw huh?
Amazing, 7 years later? I guess you really have mommy issues or daddy issues? Maybe, just mentally unstable?
All teams get bad calls! It's part of the game. The Patriots will be at "the blackhole," this season. I wonder if they can win without a tuck rule call?
Here's some more amazement: the Patriots won 18 of 19 games last year, no tapes by the letter of the law. Undefeated regular season. You don't see that everyday! What since 72 over 30 years. None of it was accomplished by cheating!
Bottom line and my last comment on "Spygate," a tape of signals, used for a future meeting=advanced scouting. Taping = breaking of a technical rule. The media, NY Times, Boston Herald, ESPN and Senator Arlen Specter "beat a dead horse for 3 months!" The media at least are doing what thier suppossed to be doing. Specter? I'm not sure what his real motives are? (comcast?) I wish someone would investigate that!

I still can't believe the Patriots haters still haven't gotten over the Tuck Rule. Get over it. It was the correct call of a crappy rule. It cost the Pats a game earlier that season vs. the Jets.

The fact that Patriots haters are talking about a play that happened in January of 2002 and it is June of 2008 just shows who is really obsessed here. There have been bad calls that have affected outcomes of games including playoff games before and since that call. People seem to obsess on that call though.

Well, finally a truthful prespective of the coverage at ESPN. I have to admit I emailed her myself! I couldn't believe the feeding frenzy "Spygate," caused in the media. Not so much that they reported it. It was the lack of facts! Wingo maintains it's not my fault! Those guys are paid for opinions! That's right, they are and your paid to keep them in check with the facts! So Trey, we in Patriot Nation are collectively holding our breath for an apology...
He comes across like, well how can I control those guys? There's two of them and one of me, very disappointing Trey, very! Where's your ethics? Like Tomase and ESPN, your culpable for the speculation of using the tapes during the same game! At no point do I recall you speaking up with a comment like, he fellas we really need to wait for the Commissioner...none of us know what he has or what conclusions he has made. You'd think that ESPN would've got a clue from the "Duke Lacross Case!"
BB taped signals, (available to anyone in the stadium) for use in a future game. Big Deal! He was fined and the team was punished by losing a 1st round pick! Technically BB broke a rule, (Walsh confirmed what BB said he did), the tape never left the possesion of the video guy until after the game! In reality, this is little more than a convienent way to advance scout! Which is what we at Patriot Nation have been saying all along! Cheating? I don't think so. More like hating. Through the entire process of this story, I couldn't beleive some of the non-sense posters were accusing the Patriots are doing. So scrape the egg off your face and let's get back to football.

I honest can say I don't care about what other people think about the Patriots. I never understood the dynasty argument. Whether people call them a dynasty or not, it doesn't change their accomplishments. Whether people think their Super Bowl titles are tainted or not won't change their accomplishments either.

Belichick, Brady, and a few others will still get into the Hall of Fame. There will be no asterick next to their titles no matter how much the haters want them to be. In no time, the next scandal will occur and people will forget about Spygate. Just like people forgot about Tim Donaghy until he dropped another bombshell this week and purposely fixing games is worse than stealing signals by videotaping them.

I just like to argue and get the obsessive Patriots haters panties in a bunch. Otherwise I really wouldn't care. I really don't think anyone's mind is going to change at this point. Besides, most non-Patriots fans and non-obsessive Patriots haters have moved on and couldn't care less about Spygate anymore. At least Patriots fans have the excuse for being in these threads since it is about their team, what is the Patriots hater's excuse?

I would personally like to thank Sen. Arlen Spector for Bringing Spygate back to life when he did. It probably forced the Patriots and Belichick to play the Super Bowl with out cheating for fear of getting caught, and we all know how that turned out. No I am not a Giants fan! Go Eagles

Le Anne always does a great job with her critique of ESPN. She hit the nail on the head for this one. The way ESPN covered much of Spygate, specifically Mark Schlereth and Chris Carter, was disgraceful.

I was happy to hear that same day Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon say the coverage was ridiculous ... but then again, like the ombudsperson said, does 90 minutes and 90 seconds balance out?

No.

Gee what a surprise, JoeSixPack on yet another thread just making sh*t up off the top of your head. Wlash never stated in any way whatsoever that other teams did the same thing. You wanna talk about crickets? Let's see you post some Walsh quotes indicating he knew of other teams doing it. You already got pimpsmacked on your earlier false claim that what the Cheatriots did wasn't against the rules. NR4 cited the NFL rule, NOT the memo. You just got OWNED. Now take your medicine and STFU.

And yeah pats fans.....we really believe you when you say you don't care what we think. LOL. What we think seems to be about the only thing you care about these days, probably because it's us the majority of NFL fans that will ultimately decide the way history remembers your cheating fraudulant "dynasty". Suck on that one boyz.

JoeSixPack says:Where’s your evidence to back up your statement there bud?

Stfnwlf says: *crickets chirping* (oh he has a lot to say... just can't come up with any evidence)

Nr4 - Hate to burst your bubble but signal stealing IS allowed by the NFL rules. Do I really need to go in depth about that? There's no question the Patriots broke a rule when they continued their practice after the NFL clarified the rule in 2006.

And while you seem pretty convinced the rule was clear before 2006, the NFL disagrees with you. I might be stating the obvious but clear rules don't require added clarification.

If you want to argue that the rule was clear in 2001 on, then your beef is with the NFL Commissioner's office not with me. While your at it you might want to argue against the Tuck rule some more, but even Bill Polian and the Competition Committee are going to argue against you on that one.

So now that you know signal stealing is legal, let's take a look at the CURRENT rule specifically about videotaping signal calling - even after the NFL had a chance to clarify that further this year.

As long as the team does it in the proper location (not the sideline for example), and doesn't do it in a location accessible to team personnel during the game (back to that "during the game" issue again - its still there in the rules) according to the current NFL rules on the book, its ok to tape signal calling or whatever the heck you want.

You can look it up yourself - unless of course you'd prefer to remain ignorant.

JoeSixPack says:Where’s your evidence to back up your statement there bud?

Stfnwlf says: *crickets chirping* (oh he has a lot to say… just can’t come up with any evidence)

Nr4 - Hate to burst your bubble but signal stealing IS allowed by the NFL rules. Do I really need to go in depth about that? There’s no question the Patriots broke a rule when they continued their practice after the NFL clarified the rule in 2006.

The film clearly shows that Woodson hit Brady's arm and rattled the ball loose well before the ball came down and hit Brady's left hand. The film clearly shows that Brady never grasped the ball with two hands, i.e. a tuck.

But really. I'm not going to re-hash 6-year old debates.

Oh, and I forgot this quote from the Banks article from a league source about videotaping signals:

"That type of sign-stealing goes on a ton in the league,'' said one NFL source who was both a former coach and player in the league. "From a coaching standpoint, you know who's signaling in the personnel on the opposing sideline, and then there's another guy making the play calls on the headset. Defenses used to watch the play-caller, and if a guy spoke for a real long time, that was usually a pass, because the calls take longer. A run is always a shorter call. So coaches shield their mouths when they're calling plays now. If you make your calls out in the open, the other team will steal your signals and your tendencies.''

It's a sad day when anchors follow the crowd...Wingo, follower. Why didn't he just report the facts and not let that kook Schelerth and Carter become a runaway train with their kooky ideas and theory on May 13, 2008. "SportCenter Special" did not report on facts during that long and borefest we had to wait through with Goodell and Walsh? In fact they speculated over and over again and had just about everyone believe them. Are people really imbeciles? Do people really believe that everything that is told them is the truth? Don't they know Scherleth has had one to many to the head? Do they not know the difference between fact and fiction? ESPN, and the haters wanted ALL of these stories to be true no matter what it took. What do you call that? Lying. But yet no one is saying they should be held to a higher ground. They are reporting the news....again the news...no fables. So stop your bellyaching and take it like person and accept the FACTS.
We Patriot fans are PROUD. ESPN, and all of their brainwashed feeble minded Patriot haters make us much more proud as each day goes by. We're gonna kick your ass and I can't wait.
You sound like a bunch of brainwashed cult members of ESPN. You've just joined the likes of Joey Porter....This gets sweeter by the day.

WE PAT FANS DON'T CARE WHAT THE REST OF YOU DIM-WITTED CLOWNS BELIEVE. I TRUELY BELIEVE THAT YOUR ARSE IS THE MAJOR PART OF YOUR BRAIN.

JoeSixPack says:
The true lesson of Spygate is that of ignorance

Ignorance of fans who actually think that signal stealing is prohibited when the NFL allows and encourages it...
------------------------------

Let me stop you right there 12 pack.

The Pats fans need to admit the reality of the cheating and stop acting like the fact that Walsh didn’t have a tape of the Rams walkthrough somehow means that the Pats didn’t cheat. They did, and they admit that they did. They got caught. They were punished.

The cheating was for videotaping opposing teams’ signals for use in future games (they said they did not use the tapes for in-game benefits and there is no evidence that they did). But the Pats fans who keep saying “but this whole thing is nonsense because it would be legal to tape from the stands” are wrong. The rule is as follows:

“Use at any time, from the start to the finish of any game in which a club is a participant, of communication or information-gathering equipment, other than Polaroid-type cameras or field telephones, including without limitation videotape machines, telephone tapping or bugging devices, or any other form of electronic device that might aid a team during the playing of a game.”

“A game” means any game, including future games. Does not matter where the taping occurred, it was against the rules. (The fact that other rules talk about the sidelines, etc. does not mean that it was OK under this rule to tape from the stands.) Goodell confirmed this. Belichick argued that he thought this rule meant that you can’t tape if you want to use the tape for in-game help. Goodell said no, that interpretation is wrong, this rule means you can’t tape for the benefit of future games either. The issue was NOT where the Pats taped, it was that they taped.

Oh yeah, The Ombudsman lady was merely commenting on the fairness or lack there of of ESPN commentators opinions, and rightly so. Feel better?!

For those Pats* fans who think this issue is a "dead horse". How come for every little posting Florio puts out on this, there's a firestorm of comments? Fans of the 31 teams that were cheated for seven years will NEVER let this die or let you forget that all the Pats* victories during that time are forever TAINTED, especially the Super Bowls. Get used to it and quit whining.

JoeSixPack -

And they didn't need to tape the Rams walk-through prior to the Super Bowl. They played them earlier in the year and had all the signals, formations, etc... they needed!!! So not all tape was used during the game.

And FYI "bud", Walsh did say he handed tapes over to Belicheat's staff during the game for use DURING the game.

Nice try, slick!

JoeSixPack -

Why do you think all the tape swapping, editing, viewing, etc... took place at halftime? Couldn't they do it during the game or at the end of each quarter? Naaaah... that would be too easy.

Love your explanation. Maybe you can get a job with Patriots and be Belicheat's personal jock sniffer. You seem to be so far up there you'd be more than qualified.
