also, please explain to me how what the patriots did gave them a dramatic edge that was the difference between winning and losing games. there is no evidence to support any theories that these tapes were used during games. therefore, how could they have had the affect on games required to discredit all the patriots have accomplished?

Then read the NFL rule that states where and when taping is allowed - and yes, taping of signal calling included - just as long as its not on the sideline.

No one has ever disputed that sideline taping is against the rules. Get a clue.

But seeing as taping signal calling is legal from other locations, can you explain what the big deal is? Walking across the street is legal on the crosswalks. Walking across the streets in prohibited locations is called Jaywalking. You’ve probably Jaywalked yourself. I guess that makes you a criminal just like the Patriots are cheaters.

No, the Raiders never got the ball back. Patriots retained posession of the ball after the HOSEJOB CALL and sent the game into overtime on that very posession. They then won the toss in OT and drove to field goal range and Vinatieri ended it. So, NO, the Raiders never got the ball back and NO they didn’t even get the chance to over come the call unless you consider being on the losing end of an OT coin toss to be a “chance to overcome the call”.

Simply put, you can’t use video cameras at any time during a game to gather information (coaching signals qualify as information, obviously). In case you weren’t aware, video tapes capture images utilizing “video tape machines”. Information gathered in the tapes cannot be used during the playing of a game. It doesn’t matter which game they’re used for.

And Walsh never said specifically the tapes weren’t ever used during a game. He simply decribed his basic routine and you guys ran with it. Let me know if you want some more because i’ll be more than happy to continue to taking the Pats fans to school. I love making you guys crazy to the point of namecalling and insults. It amuses me. The Patriots cheated. Who cares how it was covered? They got a slap on the wrist for cheating during the seasons of 3 Super Bowl seasons (four if you count the losing Super Bowl.)

And the Steelers shouldn’t have had to overcome the horrific call that said Troy Polumalu didn’t intercept Peyton Manning when everyone in the world (including the league office that sent a letter of apology to the team) knew he did. They overcame it.

The Pats shouldn’t had to overcome a bogus face guarding penalty (a rule that hasn’t existed for a decade now) that basically cost them a TD against the Colts in the AFC Championship game two years ago. The Pats didn’t overcome that loss. The Patriots also got a letter of an apology from the league for that bad call too.

The Seahawks shouldn’t have had to overcome the questionable TD call by Roethlisberger in the Super Bowl. And they didn’t.

My point is there has been some really bad calls that may or may not have cost a team a win in the playoffs. Some overcome this crushing bad calls and some don’t. The league stands by their call in the Snow Bowl, but have admitted their mistakes in other games.

Get over it.

i might subscribe to the conspiracy theory that the league doesn’t like the raiders or that certain teams get the benefit of close calls (see kings vs lakers 2002, game 6)

Oh, and the Tuck Rule call was a fumble. Here’s the rule:

“NFL Rule 3, Section 21, Article 2, Note 2. When [an offensive] player is holding the ball to pass it forward, any intentional forward movement of his arm starts a forward pass, even if the player loses possession of the ball as he is attempting to tuck it back toward his body. Also, if the player has tucked the ball into his body and then loses possession, it is a fumble.”

Pay special attention to the freezeframe at :53 of this video. The football is clearly within BOTH of Tom Brady. That, my friends, is when the ball is officially “tucked”. Tom Brady is not a running back, he does not have to have the ball tucked into his body like one. FUMBLE. HOSEJOB. ASTERISK.

The fact that Patriots haters are talking about a play that happened in January of 2002 and it is June of 2008 just shows who is really obsessed here. There have been bad calls that have affected outcomes of games including playoff games before and since that call. People seem to obsess on that call though.

Nr4 - Hate to burst your bubble but signal stealing IS allowed by the NFL rules. Do I really need to go in depth about that? There’s no question the Patriots broke a rule when they continued their practice after the NFL clarified the rule in 2006.

And while you seem pretty convinced the rule was clear before 2006, the NFL disagrees with you. I might be stating the obvious but clear rules don’t require added clarification.

If you want to argue that the rule was clear in 2001 on, then your beef is with the NFL Commissioner’s office not with me. While your at it you might want to argue against the Tuck rule some more, but even Bill Polian and the Competition Committee are going to argue against you on that one.

So now that you know signal stealing is legal, let’s take a look at the CURRENT rule specifically about videotaping signal calling - even after the NFL had a chance to clarify that further this year.

As long as the team does it in the proper location (not the sideline for example), and doesn’t do it in a location accessible to team personnel during the game (back to that “during the game” issue again - its still there in the rules) according to the current NFL rules on the book, its ok to tape signal calling or whatever the heck you want.

You can look it up yourself - unless of course you’d prefer to remain ignorant.

The film clearly shows that Woodson hit Brady’s arm and rattled the ball loose well before the ball came down and hit Brady’s left hand. The film clearly shows that Brady never grasped the ball with two hands, i.e. a tuck.

The Pats fans need to admit the reality of the cheating and stop acting like the fact that Walsh didn’t have a tape of the Rams walkthrough somehow means that the Pats didn’t cheat. They did, and they admit that they did. They got caught. They were punished.

The cheating was for videotaping opposing teams’ signals for use in future games (they said they did not use the tapes for in-game benefits and there is no evidence that they did). But the Pats fans who keep saying “but this whole thing is nonsense because it would be legal to tape from the stands” are wrong. The rule is as follows:

“A game” means any game, including future games. Does not matter where the taping occurred, it was against the rules. (The fact that other rules talk about the sidelines, etc. does not mean that it was OK under this rule to tape from the stands.) Goodell confirmed this. Belichick argued that he thought this rule meant that you can’t tape if you want to use the tape for in-game help. Goodell said no, that interpretation is wrong, this rule means you can’t tape for the benefit of future games either. The issue was NOT where the Pats taped, it was that they taped.

Oh yeah, The Ombudsman lady was merely commenting on the fairness or lack there of of ESPN commentators opinions, and rightly so. Feel better?!

And they didn’t need to tape the Rams walk-through prior to the Super Bowl. They played them earlier in the year and had all the signals, formations, etc… they needed!!! So not all tape was used during the game.

And FYI “bud”, Walsh did say he handed tapes over to Belicheat’s staff during the game for use DURING the game.
