Conflicting media reports raised questions about whether tight end Jeremy Shockey would show up to the team’s mandatory minicamp today, but he did, in fact, report to the team’s facilities this morning.
However, Shockey is not participating in any drills. Instead, he’s merely working with the team’s medical staff. Shockey has not been at full speed since breaking his leg in December.
Shockey was rumored to be unhappy during the Giants’ Super Bowl run, and he was reportedly almost traded to the Saints during the NFL draft. But more recently the Giants have said they expect Shockey to be their starter in 2008.
Several Giants are sitting out with injuries today, including receivers Plaxico Burress, David Tyree and D.J. Hall, cornerbacks Sam Madison and Corey Webster, linebackers Gerris Wilkinson, Zak DeOssie and Danny Clark and tight end Michael Matthews.

ESPN.com is reporting that Burress is refusing to workout until he gets a new deal.
Says here that he’s injured, but nothing that selfish fool does would surprise this Steeler fan.
Even though he left for nothing, he’s still the best draft pick in Steeler history. If they don’t draft Burress they’re still shackled to The Animated Corpse Of Chad Pennington. Poor Jets.
Welcome to life with Plexiglass, Giant fan. Enjoy the ride.

Shockey didn’t have the balls not to show up. He’s in for a rude awakening this year if he thinks he’s going to be giving Coughlin and Manning attitude coming off of a championship year - one they won without him.

Wow, that’s some list of players sitting out with injuries! ESPN has Burress sitting out until he gets a new contract; what’s new?
I guess winning a SB means that everyone needs to discard their contracts, that they previously thought were just fine, and get the team to renegotiate their worth.
I can’t recall any team having this many “injuries” in minicamp…

Hey the guy isn’t that stupid to get fined $8200.00 a day to stay with the sames team for a long hold out not to get traded. The Giants wouldn’t trade him anyway. This story is over Mike!

Seems him and Coughlin are not seeing eye to eye already……and it’s only day 1.
Just trade him to New Orleans already. Save everyone some pain.

Working with the staff? Doing what, emptying bedpans?

How did you manage to glean that from the article? Because he wasn’t practicing? He’s coming off injury ya jagoff. All the trade rumors were based off the Saints interest in him, and nothing more. Get over it, or not since its still the offseason.

Flying elvis,
Their fluke season is over? You mean the one where they went to Tampa Bay, Dallas, and Green Bay and outplayed all those teams to advance to the Superbowl. Then they beat what many people were calling the best team ever prior to the Superbowl. Yeah what a fluke season!
