When MDS updated you about Jeremy Shockey’s status at Giants minicamp earlier today, he mentioned Plaxico Burress didn’t take part in practice because of an injury.
While he is still rehabbing his wounded knee, ankle and shoulder, Burress was healthy enough to take part in practice but didn’t because of another reason entirely. It was a “business decision” related to his desire for a new contract. Burress indicated that he wouldn’t be exerting himself physically until he was taken care of fiscally.
It’s a good bet that new deals for Terrell Owens, Randy Moss and Larry Fitzgerald are playing a role in Burress’s thought process. “My agent and I are trying to get something done, so I can be a Giant for a long time,” Burress said. “I’m personally not happy with the way that’s going so I’m choosing not to participate.”
Drew Rosenhaus, Burress’s agent, has yet to post a video outlining his client’s demands but did say he’s “hopeful” of working something out in the near future. Burress has three years and $10 million left on the deal he signed before the 2005 season.

You can almost put money on the diva receivers asking for money before their contracts are up. These thing rarely end up on a good note.
On that note, I hope they give him something for the heart he put into last season, but I hope its in the form of a one time roster bonus. Having a player leave it all on the field is something that should be rewarded. Just not with a new deal with three years left on the original.

There are players in the NBA making 20+ mill a year, you “fans” need to quit complaining about other people’s money.. (haters)
Owners are making a killing and they don’t have their health at risk. Get a brain, morans.

Not a Giants fan, but Plaxico is well deserving of more money. I can’t see how any Giants fan who watched what he did last year that ended up with you winning a super bowl could disagree.
He isn’t playing the part of Chad Johnson. PB actually IS underpaid, and had an MVP-type season last year, especially early.
Although I could see how injuries could be a concern. I’d give him a bonus now and incentives for every season he starts more than 12-14 games.

Plax probably deserves a raise. He played injured most of last season and still had a great year. With the number of great cornerbacks in the NFC East, the G-Men should make it a priority to keep him happy. And that is coming from a Cowboys fan.

mr touchdown learn economics, nba players get so much because they play 40 home games, and only have to pay 10-12 players and 4 coaches at the most. contrasted to the nfl playing 8 home games and paying 53 players and numerous coaches and practice roster players. so unless you want your ticket prices to go through the roof the nfl players cannot get paid this much

If memory serves the Giants were the only team to offer him a contract when he left Pittsburgh. Seems to me they did him a favor and deserved the effort he put forth last year. In my opinion they are all square.

nba pleyers get paid that much because they have 40 home games and less players/coaches to pay, compared to 8 home games and a lot more players and coaches to pay. mr touchdown, you’re the moron

I understand if you have only one year one your contract left, but he has 3. You got to side with the organization, because you do not know if he will produce the same way he did this past season. Just look at the MLB Gaints and Zito. He got that huge contact and hasn’t done anything.

I am so sick of players signing a contract then a couple years later demanding a new one. It’s a contract!!!!! You knew the risks when you signed it. You knew you might get hurt permanently. You knew you might outperform it. Those are inherent in signing a contract. Superior performance is an anticipated risk at the time of contract formation. The player then assumes the risk that the payments will not equal the performance. They want to hedge against this risk — then put in performance incentives or accelerators. You don’t get to repudiate over a risk you assumed and was known at the time of performance.
In other words, get over yourselves and live up to the agreement you knowingly signed.

There are only fifteen players on an NBA team. There are 82 game seasons with four rounds of seven game playoff series. That’s a lot of revenue to be spread among those fifteen players. There are fifty to seventy players getting some pay at some time on an NFL team. There are 16 games seasons with only eleven total playoff games. And the stadiums only seat 2.5 to 4 times as many fans as in an NBA arena. Plus, the top two or three players on an NBA team are the key to winning and selling tickets. So paying them a fortune makes sense.

yea there are players making more in the nba and baseball but you don’t see them whining 2 years after they sign the deal do you? and before you give theur contracts are guaranteed bull, remember nfl players signing bonuses are. so I have no pity for someone gets 10 million bucks or more to sign his name then has to live with earning only 3 million a year the rest of the contract. hey nobody made him play on that ankel he chose to because he wanted a ring which he got and now he wants more money for doing what he was paid to do to begin with and that is help his team win the super bowl. shut up already and play!

He showed up to minicamp but can’t participate anyway because of his injuries which is exactly what Tom Coughlin confirmed. He does deserve more money because he risked injuring his ankle further which could have ended his career to help the Giants get to the playoffs. In the NFC Championship game he had a career high 11 catches and had the game winning touchdown catch in the Superbowl after taking alot of heat from the media (especially Mr. Florio) for his 23-17 superbowl prediction.
After seeing an overrated bum like Javon Walker get 6 years 55 million Plax definitely deserves more.

Terrell Owens, Randy Moss and Larry Fitzgerald got new deals and none of them helped their teams win a Super Bowl. Plax caught the winning freaking TD, and he was hurt.
Pay the man. If nothing else it tells the players, and future players, the G-Men take care of their own. I’d pay the money for that alone.

He did play hurt all year, and made a high pressure catch that won his team a Super Bowl. He deserves a new contract more than Ocho, TO, and Larry Fitzgerald.
I liked the above posters idea that he should get incentive clauses about the amount of games he plays.
