LeCharles Bentley’s two-year tenure with the Cleveland Browns has come to an end, without Bentley ever playing a down for the team.
Bentley’s agent, Jonathan Feinsod, said he asked for and received his release today.
“LeCharles came back to Cleveland to be in integral part of the Cleveland Browns, his hometown team,” Feinsod said, per Mary Kay Cabot of the Plain Dealer. “Through no fault of the Browns at all, they didn’t know if LeCharles was going to come back or not and they moved on with their plans. But this is not the same team LeCharles signed with. They have commitments to other players. LeCharles is not ready to be an insurance policy at this point.”
The 28-year-old Bentley passed a physical yesterday and expects to play in 2008. It just won’t be with the Browns.
A native of Cleveland, Bentley signed a free-agent contract with the Browns in 2006, only to suffer a serious knee injury that kept him out for the entire season. After developing a staph infection in the knee, he also missed all of 2007.

It was his dream to be a Brown. Sad to see dreams unfulfilled in an age where everything is all about money.
GL, LeCharles.

Still a good story if hes able to make it back, although it would’ve been nice to see it in an orange hat.
So, moving on, when does he write that $16,000,000 check back to the Browns, for services NOT rendered?

I think it is safe to assume that Bentley is done. Apparently the Browns dont think he can beat out Hank Fraley. Not a good sign for Bentley’s future in the league.

I know the Bears will not grab him but you watch the Rams will!
Most teams will not offer him a huge contract because of the bum knee!
Because of the recent draft and free agency there are only a few teams that could his services anyway!

Good Luck in the future LeCharles. I think he would be a good pickup for a couple of teams, so we will all probably get to see him play again this year.

Good luck LeCharles.
Sad to see any franchise loose someone who is actually trying to make it back onto a team for a reason other than a suspension.

Doe anyone remember that before he signed with Celveland he had a “verbal deal” and was set to sign with Philly. He then backed out at the last second…hmmm. Weird to think that he hasn’t played a single down since then. What comes around goes around…

What goes around, comes around LeCharles. Shoulda thought twice about stringing the Eagles along only to go back on your word and sign elsewhere. Karmas a bitch, aint it??

Yep…the penalty for using one team to get a better deal with another is a staph infection so bad that it was considered life threatening, with serious talk about amputating the leg. Stay classy, Eagles Fans.

You Eagles fans are pathetic! What goes around comes around? Im sure you’re all wonderful upstanding citizens. (sarcasm in case you didnt pick it up) I hope you all tear one ligament or break one bone in your body for every time you’ve went back on your word or did something that pissed somebody off. Then you could say karma’s a bitch!!

This guy was one of the most coveted free agents out there when he decided to go to Cleveland (I believe for less money than other offers). The guys who scouted him coming out of New Orleans and missed their chance the first time will be drooling to snag him. Passing a physical is one thing. If he can show explosion off the line in personal workouts proving the knee os fine, he’ll land a multi-year deal (It’s not like anything is guaranteed anymore and the upside is huge). It’s sad to see his career derailed like this, but if he gets back on track, he can immediately help an O-line.

All you morons talking about karma and what goes around are forgetting something. The Eagles were cheating under the rules for free agents by talking to him before the start of free agency. The Browns were playing it by the book and waited until the start of free agency to talk to him.
