Rhode reported: "They didn’t just try to hurt him, they succeeded. Urlacher and Mike Brown separated his shoulder for him."

I'm disappointed to hear that Mike Brown was in on that. I thought I got a "nice guy" vibe from him. In my book, intentionally hurting a teammate (or an opponent, really) crosses a line - I don't care how much you don't like that teammate's personality or how much you want your buddy to start. And with Mike's injury issues - it would be wise not to tempt Karma. From the looks of it, Karma didn't take too kindly to Mike's extracarricular activities.

I felt really badly for Mike and his bad luck w/ injuries - now (if this is true) I care less about his suffering than I did about five minutes ago.

I remember thinking then that Cedric Benson had more (physical) ability and had more "upside" than Thomas Jones. I still think that - Cedric's just a bit of a headcase. If he got his mind right, got more heart, and got some teammates who will deal with him in more constructive ways (and *block* for him) - his true potential would be unleashed.

The release of Cedric Benson is the beginning of putting the plaster on the cracks of the Bears offense. This unit is brutal, plain and simple.

The idea of drafting Benson was at the time the right thing to do-if Jerry Angelo was going to make a move for a premier wide receiver or younger offensive linemen at the time. That was the only obvious problem as Angelo proved that he can build a defense even after the release of Rosey Colvin and the aging Ted Washington (who both went on to win titles with the Patriots). I admit, I thought Benson was going to be a standout back, but the problems, and the clock, began when Benson held out for a signing bonus. I don’t know why Angelo got forced into signing him for that much, but it set the organization back a long way on player negotiations. The Bears are going to have to start paying players until guys on this unit get released or retire. Urlacher will most definitely get a restructured deal to include another signing bonus, Tommie Harris the same, and Hester will get an extension. Locking up Nathan Vasher, Charles Tillman, and Lance Briggs helps to alleviate this situation. Good to see there are a couple of guys smart enough to figure out the business on the field handles the contracts.

Jerry, it’s time to put your money where your mouth is. It is still your job to lose.

P.S. Daunte Culpepper = Still a bad idea (see Kordell Stewart)

The dude was a bad omen from the start! The Bears have wasted first round draft picks on Running Backs since the 90's. Any other free agent running back like Jordon from Oakland or Williams formely of the Lions will be an upgrade anyway! The guy is on his last leg in the NFL. The only way he makes an impact this upcoming year will be if, he beats both arrest in court and goes to AA. Well that goin to happen? What a dysfunctional system of giving player third and forth chances. Good riddance as well!

Benson cried when he was drafted beacuse he knew he hit the jackpot and wouldn't have to work again. He couldn't hit the holes the O-line gave him. He was the last guy off the ground and into the huddle after every play. He just looked like he had no heart out there. His lack of production had already put his job in jeopardy, the arrests just made it easier to get rid of him.

No leadership or team chemistry? If anything that story screams the opposite. Sounds to me that the whole team didn't want a selfish bum like Benson stealing a job from a team player like Thomas Jones without earning it.

hitdog i dont know what kool-aid your drunk on but benson sucks.
Sure he will get picked up but that doesnt change that FACT that he SUCKS.When,if ever in his Bears career did he show you any moment that he deeply wanted to be the top notch NFL player he was drafted to be? This assclown gave the bears the trifecta for reasons to release him 1)lack of/NO production. 2)A history of injuries and 3)His off field antics.not to mention after they traded Thomas Jones, and handed Benson the starting job he shows up to camp overweight. This guy is disturbed and he needs help.look at the other top 5 (hell the top 10!!) draft picks from that year ALMOST all of them SUCK too.

When he signs in AFL2? He'll be picked up by an NFL team withing 10 days. Easily.

Nobody gives up on a 4th overall pick that easy. He will be signed in the NFL. Lots of fools on here.

Maybe if/when he signs with another team, in AFL2 or some other bush semi-pro football leagues, they can stitch him up a jersey with "THEY HATE ME" on the nameplate. If he plays even remotely well, maybe the pub from the jersey can get him back in the league a la Rod Smart a.k.a. HE HATE ME.

The Bears have a lot wrong with them, but if wanting to hurt a teammate is one of them then there are truly serious locker room issues. They should probably just can most of the team and rebuild.
