A day after Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb downplayed the condition of a shoulder that, per media reports, left him “very limited” in minicamp practice, the Eagles have shut him down for the balance of the week, due to tendonitis (or, as the case may be, tendinitis) in his shoulder.
Kevin Kolb will work with the first-team offense in McNabb’s absence.
The injury reportedly is the result of lifting weights.

Do us all a favor, keep Kolb running the first-team offense and get Brett Favre and Jeff Garcia’s agents on the phone. ENOUGH. It’s enough already. And for all of the McNabb apologists - great stats mean NOTHING if you choke in the biggest game of your life. And for the “Blame Reid” folks - did you notice how well the offense moved when Feeley was in last year? Suddenly the receivers could CATCH when someone deliverd the ball with some sort of accuracy and confidence. It’s over. He’s an injury prone crybaby who can’t get it done under pressure. And don’t quote me game “comeback” stats. That’s different than pressure. How many times has Tom Brady thrown up on the field? ENOUGH.

non-issue…..from eagles website…
The date was June 10, 2004. Ironically, it was three years ago to the date when the Eagles did the same thing to Donovan McNabb that they are doing now. They shut him down. It was the final day of that spring’s Passing Camp. McNabb had a case of tendonitis in his shoulder, and as a precautionary measure, the Eagles’ excellent athletic training staff kept McNabb out of practice and pointed toward training camp.
This is the same thing. The time is diferent and the circumstances are different and certainly there is a lot more attention directed toward McNabb’s shoulder, but the move is the same in its nature: To make sure McNabb is 100 percent healthy for training camp.

this is quite early in the season for him to get injured and screw up the eagles chances. I wonder how long this injury will linger.

Did anybody else see him at the Celtics-Lakers game the other night? I think somebody should tell him that he should be on the “Jared from Subway” diet, not the “Jared Lorenzen” diet.

Florio says:

McNabb wouldn’t have to lift weights so much if he weren’t required to carry the whole offense. At least he didn’t have to carry Westbrook, but Westbrook’s gotta be one of the lighter guys on the team.

This is not news. He’ll be fine. And stini777, go hang yourself because you’re an ass. Feeley? The same Feeley who started and ended almost every game he played in last year by throwing the ball to the other team? I don’t disagree about being injury prone and a crybaby but Favre’s a pill popping alcoholic who can play in traffic on the Schukill Expressway for all I care. Favre and Strahan should do I pregame show together about padding statistics…. Regardless of who it is, Kolb or Donavan, birds win the division. You heard it hear first!

Tendonitis is a repetitive motion injury. If it’s in his throwing shoulder then it’s from throwing the ball too much and the only way to heal that injury is to discontinue the motion that caused the injury in the first place. He does need to give it a rest until camp.
That being said, Kolb is now taking reps with the number 1’s. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing more and more of him as the year progresses.
At this point I’m longing for the cries for a big time wide receiver, LOL.

as a diehard Eagles fan, I can say that the “McNabb is hurt again” storyline is getting real old. It just sucks the air out of this town every time something happens with him. Watch, the Phillies are rolling in baseball, and the lead story on Comcast tonight will be Donovan. I am really starting to wish he was some other team’s daytime drama.

As concerned as I am with McNabb’s staying healthy, I’m not worried because it is a minor injury and it is better now than July. let him sit this out so we can see a 100% healthy McNabb in Traning Camp. Good for Kolb’s development. plus The pictures I saw of him latley he seems to be lighter than last year which has to be great for his mobility. Our 07 D is looking like one of the best in the league so far so it is up to McNabb to lead the way to the Bowl.

I said this on another blog and I feel that it bears repeating here as well:
“I look at this as a minor setback at this point. I know that most people are going to start jumping all over McNabb and saying how he can’t ever stay healthy and it’s just one thing after another. This is tendinitis that they are wisely taking very seriously and just pulling him off the field rather than making it worse. I’m pretty sure he already knows every single idiosyncrasy of this offense so it doesn’t bother me that he’s not out there right now. Plus, I’d rather have Kolb getting more snaps with the first team offense at this point anyway. It’ll be better for his development.”

Clearly you have to be spoon fed your information gallaghedj311. The concept I was trying to put forward is that the offense performed under Feeley. It wasn’t an endorsement of the player. Feeley’s a career backup for a reason. The point is Feeley had confidence in his receivers and didn’t hold on to the ball ’till the very last minute like McNabb. That worked when he had his escapability intact. It doesn’t work anymore. Feeley, Garcia, they let the system do the work and the offense moved.
And Cooltropic, when all you can muster is “Ditto”, you should stop commenting and watch “Ghost” a few more times.
I love the Philadelphia Eagles more than life itself, and I don’t believe they can win a SuperBowl with Donovan McNabb at Quarterback. It’s time to move on.

McNabb is now going to back himself into a corner and be defiant with the media. He’s so predictable. Once the season starts and plays like garbage, he’s going to bring up the fact that management didn’t sign a top flight WR for him and he’ll throw his current WR corp under the bus.
We all know that Westbrook wears the pants in that offense anyway, so why not just start Kolb and start shopping McNabb to Chicago or Toronto.

stini777:
You’re obviously a die-hard Eagles’ fan. I could tell because you have respected the time-honored tradition of embracing the back-up when the starting QB hasn’t succeeded to our satisfaction. I say: “Patience!” McNabb has one more year to do IT for the Eagles - and I personally think he’s more than capable. Yeah, I don’t like his act either. He’s much more of a martyr than I can stomach, but he CAN play QB. And as far as getting rid of the ball - I feel your pain. But AJ got rid of the ball many more times than was prudent last year and it cost us games. I prefer that McNabb do the timing thing better, and use his legs more, but he’s still, by far, the Eagles’ best option. And you know it. Break in a new QB in his second year? Hello, 7-9.
