We noted over the weekend that the Associated Press was running a bogus report about Tom Brady, stating that an ankle injury was hampering his off-season workouts, when in reality it was obvious from a reading of the transcript of Brady’s comments that he was making a joke when he said he couldn’t run or jump.
Within a few hours of our item pointing out the mistake, the AP issued a new article that made clear Brady was just joking. But apparently not everyone got the memo, because on Monday Brady was asked about it again. Hopefully, his answer clears things up once and for all.
“I was joking. I guess I can’t be as humorous,” Brady said. “I’ve done everything. I feel great.”
When he was then asked, again, if an ankle injury in any way limited his off-season workouts, Brady answered, again, that it didn’t.
“Not at all,” he said. “My body feels great. My leg feels great. My mind feels great. Yeah, I’m ready.”
Although the AP’s failure to realize that Brady was joking is a problem, the bigger problem is that many of the news organizations that carried the AP story have not issued any kind of correction, meaning that some readers are still under the impression that the reigning league MVP suffered an injury so severe that it’s still affecting him five months later.
But, again, Brady is just fine. Except that he’s probable for Week 1 with a shoulder injury.

Boston Herald ace reporter John Tomase just reported that Tom Brady was seen boarding a flight to Brazil & will be out for the entire season. He reports that his information was confirmed by an assistant golf pro in Hawaii whose name cannot be divulged.

Maybe the AP should employ people who understand the nuances of the sport that their covering. Just a thought.

Sadly, I see this as another example of how ridiculously easy it could be to manipulate the “free press”, of how so many major outlets of news and information simply cut-&-paste anything the AP releases without anyone actually engaging in, ya know…journalism.

Patrick,
Ankle is part of your body, ankle is also part of your leg, therefore he mentioned it twice.

Why aren’t all the Pats* fans screaming for the AP reporter to be fired?

It’s a shame nobody was nice enough to inquire as to how his pride was feeling after losing that perfect season!

Patrick,
I agree. That was very Clintonesque of Brady. Also noticed how he says that he feels great, but not that the doctors actually said he was in good health. Maybe he was on painkillers when he was asked about his ankle and since he was all doped up he did in fact feel great although he is clearly not.
I know insightful posters like FreeAgent Pro won’t be done in by this obvious ruse by Brady. Anyone who doesn’t see that Brady is clearly still hampered by his ankle is clearly blind based on Brady’s comments.

BTW, since you brought it up, I never thought Tomase should have been fired. He definitely should have been disaplined because he was clearly in the wrong, but I never thought it was a firable offense.

robo
so you are ok with a journalist who never verifies his sources?
I wonder if the guy that penned “Dewey beats Truman” ever got his raise he was looking for.

moonbeam,
LOL! Nope! I ain’t a Pats hater so there is no need. Unlike the Pats haters who believe in some vast cover up in the NFL that has something to do with aliens and a second shooter on the grass knowl; I am 100% sane.

sorethumb,
I think what Tomase did was wrong and a punishable offense. I just don’t think it was a fireable offense. There is a difference. I am a Pats fan and I do believe there are shades of grey. I don’t think it rises to the level of plagiarism which is a fireable offense (although plenty of journalists don’t get fired when they get caught plagiarizing other people’s work).

Also, since my post to Skew was not posted which makes my quote about Tomase taken out of context. I blasted the Patriots haters in the post about their obsession with the Patriot, asterick, the Spygate story, John Tomase, etc. eventhough all the stuff has absolutely nothing to do with their team. Yet they post every Patriots related thread about the Pats and Spygate.
Without that post, my Tomase post takes a much different context.

Forget Brady’s leg, ankle or shoulder, what about his missing conscience? He was directly implicated in the early years of Spygate along with Charlie “I won’t talk about it since it is not about the losing football program at Norte Dame” Weiss and others.

“Although the AP’s failure to realize that Brady was joking is a problem…”
Just why is this a problem to anyone but Florio and a few other numbskulls? Why really cares about Brady’s ankle in June? Who really thinks that Brady did any offseason workouts that weren’t X-rated?

Brady says his “mind feels great”… That’s freaking awesome. Just when I get pissed how flawless & excellent he is, he says something wacky like that to make me like him again.
