With about six weeks until training camps start to open, there aren’t many veteran free agents still available.

But one player who is apparently still drawing interest is offensive lineman Barry Sims, a nine-year veteran who started all 16 games for the Raiders last season.

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports that Sims met yesterday with 49ers, will work out for the Patriots on Wednesday, then visit the Ravens on Thursday and finish off his week with a meeting with the Rams.

Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe notes the Patriots’ interest in Sims and writes that they could be looking for another offensive lineman because guard Stephen Neal and tackle Oliver Ross are still rehabilitating from injuries. Reiss doesn’t say so, but it’s also reasonable to think that the Patriots’ interest in another veteran offensive lineman is motivated in part by uncertainty surrounding tackle Nick Kaczur.

Sims, who tied for the league lead in false starts last year, will likely sign with a team next week.
