When the Houston Texans signed free-agent quarterback Quinn Gray from the Jaguars, the thinking was that the team might still be thinking about dealing backup Sage Rosenfels to the highest bidder.  Per media reports, Rosenfels would be a Viking but for the fact that Minnesota was willing to give up a third-rounder, and the Texans wanted a second-rounder.

Rosenfels was never traded, and now the Texans apparently don’t need Gray.

So they cut him.

Per John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, the Texans thought that Gray didn’t adjust well to the team’s offense.

Also released was tackle Jordan Black, who jumped to the Texans from the Chiefs in 2007.  Black started 15 games for the Chiefs in 2006, but none for the Texans in his only year with the team.

Black was scheduled to earn $1.3 million in 2008.  Gray was due to earn a base salary of $605,000.
