Kenny Stabler, the former Raiders quarterback who won the league MVP award in 1974 and guided the Raiders to victory in Super Bowl XI, was arrested and charged with DUI Sunday in Robertsdale, Alabama.
According to the Press-Register, Stabler has pleaded guilty or no contest to DUI at least twice before.
Police said Stabler (who grew up in Alabama, was a star quarterback for the Crimson Tide and is now the school’s radio analyst) was pulled over for a traffic violation on Alabama 59, taken into custody and released from jail after posting $1,000 bond.
Our friends at Sports by Brooks have Stabler’s mug shot.

Stabler should be in the HOF along with Plunkett. Warren Moon’s in the HOF and he beat his wife and I believe a DUI.

Tampa Hoss needs to check out the Jerramy Stevens allegations before he spouts off about the Raiders. As an avid Raider fan, it’s no surprise - Stabler once claimed that his offseason workout routine involved lifting weights 12oz at a time in his fishing boat. It’s a shame, however. I have no appreciation for people who risk the lives of others driving drunk. He may belong in the HOF, but, if he’s guilty, he also deserves to have his license revoked for a year or two and at least pay some hefty, hefty fines.

Warren Moon also threw more TDs (about a hundred more than Stabler, not to mention the 144 he threw in the CFL) than INTs (about 10 more than Stabler).

Vox Veritas, yes moon had better stats and belongs in the Hall of Fame. But it’s the NFL Hall of Fame, who gives a crap about his stats in the CFL. Just shows he wasn’t good enough coming out of college to be an NFL QB. CFL stats have no place in an NFL stats conversation.

Tampa Hoss, at least the snake didn’t rape someone. That said, as a raider, I regard Snake as a hero, but getting a DUI is no good.

@junior - Other leagues have not been that nearsighted why should the NFL. There are certaintly many players who played in the negro league who were deserving of MLB hall of fame recognition, and many of them were added, as were the women leagues during WWII. Hockey is much the same encorporating leagues that hav existed pre-NHL. While the CFL is a different league, I think it still deserves SOME recognition.

I am a life long Raider fan, but can anyone be truly surprised that Snake got a DUI? Someone once told me that in his playing days, the Raiders kept a guy on the payroll who’s job it was to go get Kenny from whatever bar he was in on Saturday night and feed him coffee and cigarettes in the morning until he was sober enough to play.
For the guy who said the following about Warren Moon “But it’s the NFL Hall of Fame, who gives a crap about his stats in the CFL.” I can tell you having been to Canton, Ohio and the Hall, that it is the Pro Football Hall of Fame, not just the NFL. They honor the old AFL, the USFL and several other pro leagues that have come and gone throughout history.

I stand corrected that it is the Pro Football Hall of Fame and other leagues are rightfully honored in Canton. However, my main point was when comparing one NFL QB to another, you can’t take CFL stats into consideration. They are two different leagues with a different set of rules, the stats from the other league (CFL in this case) are irrelevant.

LAst I checked, Stabler had a Super Bowl ring, and all Warren Moon had was highlights of losing a game to Buffalo in the playoffs.

“But it’s the NFL Hall of Fame”
No. It’s the “Pro Football Hall of Fame”. However, you do have a point because the Pro Football Hall of Fame apparently doesn’t recognize CFL accomplishments. But maybe they should. It’s professional football, too.
“Just shows he wasn’t good enough coming out of college to be an NFL QB.”
I guess we’ll never know, since no NFL team thought he was worth a look coming out of college. He was obviously too good for the CFL, the Eskimos won the championship every year he was there except one.
And we all know that no team in the NFL ever whiffs when it comes to talent.

Yeah, Trent Dilfer and Eli Manning have Super Bowls ring, too. Eli even has a Super Bowl MVP award. But to get back to Stabler, I’d be disappointed if a guy like Stabler didn’t get popped for an alcohol-related offense once in a while.

I’m shocked. Can’t believe it.
Can’t believe Stabler has been arrested only three times for drunk driving.
I would have guessed he would be in double digits - easy.
